I'd expect the crew to mutiny if Shepard wasn't in charge of the Normandy. Especially if that crew had members of the former crew who has already served under Shepard. Even if they were Cerberus before..in Hackett's words "I'm not even sure this is a Cerberus vessel anymore".

Yeah, Hackett also said something to that effect as well.  It depends on how you went about the dialogue options.  Either way he basically says the SR2 is Shepard's ship and the crew is loyal to him.

People keep saying Garrus but as long as he hangs out with Shepard he is nothing more than just another grunt Shepard says jump he jumps no questions asked that's no leader that's just a toadie.

The VS does not have the recpect of the galaxy. So it does not really matter if the VS out ranks Shepard. The Turians, Salarians, Krogans, Quarians, Rachni, and the Geth are not going to fallow the VS. They are going to fallow Shepard.

And the Normandy has become know as Shepard's ship. So the Normandy is like a simble. And there is E.D.I.

If we had a 2nd in command it would have to be Garrus. He is the only person who has seen this pretty much from start to end. Also I am surprised that Jacob is not a main squaddie in ME3 do we have any info on who the permanent squad members are? I would imagine its the ME 1 squad members.

Of the main party members announced for ME3, I would pick either Garrus or Kaidan Alenko for my Shepard's second in command.

Garrus for sure, always teamed up with Garrus and Liara in ME 1. Went with Garrus and the justicar in ME 2. Definately going for Garrus again in ME 3 if that's possible.

Jacob is in ME3 but he's not a squad member.  To tell more would be a spoiler.  And we do know who the permanent squad members are for this game as well.

well from alll I know its ME 1 squad with out wrex and the 3 new ones and no one from ME 2 is on it .

Seeing as how kaidan can buff the nut my neegie Garrus will be 2nd in commander, kaidan's my Shep's 2nd bro unless vega's cooler

Edit: why does everyone want Liara shes only behind Tali in crappy leader, as much as i dont like Ash, Ash would be a better leader or kaidan or wrex, hell even vega and i donts know squat about him

As far as I can tell, it's related to whether or not you kept or destroyed the Collector base. Keepnig it (assuming you do the Suicide Mission before Arrival) gives him the 'I can be friendly... for now' line, and destroying it gives him the 'I'm not so sure this -is- a Cerberus ship anymore.' line.
I guess the writers assumed that keeping the base automatically makes you a Cerberus dude, and destroying it does not.

I don't see liara as a crappy leader and neither is tali, and if I could choose my own second in comand I'd refuse to have Ash, or kaidan or vega in second in command. It also doesn't matter if Ash or Kaidan are a higher rank than shepard, Shepard is in command whether they like it or not and the normandy is shepards ship and it always will be. Do you think that Edi or any of the other crew along with joker would take commands from anyone other than shepard? I don't think so.
