We didn't get to choose either. Not that I was complaining.
As for ME3, I'm fine with whoever they give us.
I also would be ok with whoever they give us to. I would just prefur to choose my 2nd in Command.

My Shepards second in command would definitely NOT be human, my choice would be Garrus since he has leadership qualities.

i'd pick garrus to be my second in command, after he lost his team on omega he's gained experience on how to make sure you get the job done with as little casualties as possible as was seen in my assault to the collector base mission, he got the job done with no casualties on what was considered a suicide mission, that makes him a great leader in my eyes and i'd be proud to assign him as my XO.

Garus would be my para-shep's second in command. he stuck with shepard throughout the entire story, and if you follow the paragon path it seems like shepard becomes a mentor to garus.

That doesn't make sense since you're with the human military and tensions are high with another alien race. Its a political and procedural impossibility.

I don't think you should be able to choose your second-in-command.
Since the Normandy is an Alliance warship in ME3, the executive officer should be an Alliance officer. The Virmire survivor should automatically fill that role, unless the Normandy gets a replacement for Pressly.

Depends on which of my Shep's you are asking. Commander Shepard (Yes, his name is Commander) would put Garrus as xo, without a second thought. For Kris Shepard (1), she'd say the posting should go to Ash. Kris Shepard (2) would give the spot to Miranda if she could because Kaidan is going on the missions with her. Renegon Shepard is a pragmatic man and would give it to the most senior officer he could that wasn't a squad member because that's what the regs say to do, meaning probably Joker.

The VS are not equal rank because you really think Spectre status even matters in a war hell no it has no meaning at all . Plus Shepard is the commanding officer and captain of the SR 2 . those 2 better knew their role and do there job nothing else .

thats fine the xo better stay the hell out of my shepard's business in 3 or else they will die . Oh and I do not care what story Bioware has for 3 the SR 2 is shepard's ship simple as that
