I don't know, if this has been posted before.

I just came across this article. www.novede.com/2012/02/02/1328164924/jessica-chobot-should-never-have-agreed-be-mass-effect-3

It is basically about Chobot working for Bioware and reporting about their game for G4TV at the same time. Can someone say, conflict of interests? No? How about bias?
For me, the fact that she is doing this www.youtube.com/watch , while being on a contract for Bioware at the same time, makes her credibility as a journalist null and void.
What the hell is going on here? Are these people really such amateurs, so that they fail to realize just how bad this looks? I swear to god, this will be their own undoing one day.

Chobot is a gaming jounalist/reporter plain and simple.  She doesn't work for CBS, CNN, Fox (even though there standards are worse), NBC, ABC, CBC, BBC etc.  She's more like a entertainment, music or sports reporter who don't follow a real code of ethics.  Instead they're more like promoters marketing products to consumers and giving consumers access to info via media.  Bias really doesn't matter.  When she's doing a review piece it's an opinion piece and doesn't fall under objective reporting by default.  There are bigger things in life than worrying about the virtues of the entertainment industry.

If you are fine with the lowest of standards for journalism, then that is your choice. I will continue to be critical and express my criticism on every step. I refuse to accept the fact, that this is where gaming journalism has fallen. It is unacceptable and rather insulting to any intelligent person out there.

Can we really call it Journalism.. cause its not...

They don't take about  real  stories that could considered news in the game world.

Studies being preformed..

About the teach in Minnesota that bought his enitere class  Nintendo DS's and some over the self puzzle games. There math and reading scores rose.

The and utter ceasepool of  hate, racism,  everything else that online  multiplayer gaming has become.

There was good bit of  news on SOPA even less on ACTA.

And Interview with the Makers of Call of Duty about what the international Red Cross said... Hell even try together some round tables  between developers about some of issues that gaming faces in the future.

This is not a question about gaming journalism being true journalsim or not, or wahtever you wanna call it. It is about Chobot's conflict of interests, that void's her credibility when she is reporting as a "journalist" on a project on wich she is part of (ME3). I don't know about you, but I find that highly unprofessional, not just on her part, but on part of whoever allowed her to report on ME3.

You right... this  just along with thing  I list just adds to the continued lack of proffessionalism in that Arena. I don't care if its entertainmet or not ...if you gettting paid to do a job ... do it right and do it  professionally or just don't at all.  Someone at IGN should have pulled her from the review or she herself could have refrained from it.

That's dumb and you can't be taken seriously, here the big deal. As far as i am  concerned, we still can give our opinions about your childish behavior or opinions.

Are you serious? Childish behavior is saying, “Yeah, I can see some similarities between the two. Interesting.”? Yet, getting completely upset and insulting others just because their opinions differ from yours isn’t? Getting upset because someone sees a comparison, unflattering or otherwise, between two people isn’t childish? Yeah, keep telling yourself how mature you are. I didn’t intend for the statement inside the quotations to be taken seriously and if you took it that way, it says more about you than the statement.

Categorizations about women with a particular type of feature from their body, with a negative connotation and with the intent to mock that person, you don't see anything wrong ? lol.

First of all, Diana Allers is not a person. She is a pixilated video game character. Saying that she resembles Snooki is not placing a negative connotation on her body. And what features are supposedly being mocked? Her eyes? Her nose? Her cheeks? The cheeks is where I see the comparison the most, and even Jessica Chobot herself makes fun of her cheeks as Diana Allers. Saying a woman’s cheeks, eyes or nose resembles another woman’s eyes, cheeks and nose does not demean her. So, no. I don’t see anything wrong with people saying a video game character looks like Snooki. If people were saying Jessica Chobot looked like her, I would maybe see a point being made. No one is saying that. Most I have seen have said Jessica Chobot is beautiful, but her character…no. Again: Diana Allers is not real. You do not know her. Don’t take it so seriously. Especially to the point where you must insult others.

No, do not worry, i haven't read any adult reaction from people who talked about Snooki. Oh snooki ! oh snooki ! Oh snooki hahaha ! Bioware how did you dare to do something like snooki, she isn't sexy enough. There weren't what you are talking about, it is only in your dreams. Most reactions are exactly what I talked about. People overreacted, and they even talked about porn stars.

You aren't mature at all,  all what you do is whinning without any substance, except those who are talking about journalism, and are complaining because it is Jessica and they would want at least something else, and you know, I never said that those ones were dumb, and yet, they have a different opinion from mine. Ooooh, wow. But those like you about snooki, yep, that's dumb. I won't change my opinion on that.

And snooki, you don't seem to understand, but it implies also true women in real life, since it is a specific categorization,  otherwise, why people did show some womens in real life that according to them, looked like snooki ? Oooooh you mean they were fake ? They were just pixel ? Are you sure ? lol.

Just check the previous pages and you'll see the pics about true womens. Snooki isn't only about the pic you saw in a game. Just think about it.  ( jersey shore example, yeaaaaaah that's intelligent, that's mature ) are like snooky.

I like the way you think my friend. Lets include this.

I wouldn't be as annoyed by her appearance if it wasn't for the way BioWare made her breasts and buttocks look so huge.

Are you shallow BioWare? A woman can't be beautiful without huge ****** and an ass? What the hell were you thinking?

It's not for IGN and it's not a review. It's a piece she did for G4. www.youtube.com/watch  It's basically a "journalistic" report on the new kinect features. I cannot take a single word she said seriously, especially not the part where she is praising the kinect features. Well, I usually can't take anything too seriously when it comes to advertisement, but in this case, her credibility is void from the get-go.

I’m whining about her without substance? Orly? Show me a post where I was whining about her being in the game. In fact, I stated that while I am not a fan of Jessica Chobot and I think her outfit is pretty silly for her profession, I am willing to give her a fair chance. I also stated that when shown a picture of Snooki beside of Diana Allers, all I said was “Oh yeah, I can see some resemblance.” Don’t put words into my mouth. Don’t make generalized statements lumping everyone into one pouch. It’s really immature.

And snooki, you don't seem to understand, but it implies also true women in real life, since it is a specific categorization,  otherwise, why people did show some womens in real life that according to them, looked like snooki ? Nonsense. If I said, “The old Lara Croft had breasts like Pam Anderson.” That isn’t insulting all women who has large breasts. We’re talking about Diana Allers. A fake person. Fake. Not real. No one is saying that everyone in the game who has dark hair, cheeks, eyes and a mouth is like Snooki. Again, Diana Allers. Not all women and not all women in Mass Effect.
Again, another example, if I said Chris Redfield in RE5 looked like Nick Lachey because of his facial features--I am not insulting every man who has those facial features. Really, stop getting so defensive and desperately trying to find a “cause” to protest.

You're still treating her as an investigative journalist and not what she actually does:  Host TV shows and report/review games on said shows or on the floor of a convention.

You have to make the right comparison and if you have a problem with her appearing in a game and doing a report on it after, then you should have problems with:

-Music Industry Reporters
-Movie Industry Reporters
-Sports Industry Reporters
-Network reporters who show up in serious movies as cameos reporting on fictional events then talking about their cameo on national TV (Wolf Blitzer, John King, Larry King and not to mention all kinds from CBS, ABC and NBC  ... Colbert...  Stewart... *cough*)

The question is without trying to knock the whole field:  Do gaming reporters have jounalistic integrity to begin with?
Image IPB

This whole thing amounts to a gaming reporter/host that has stated many times she loves the Mass Effect series.  So much so, it was actually noticed by Bioware and they recruited her to build up voice actor name recognition and give a high profile fan a character ingame.

Just for fun of it, lets actually treat this as some serious issue.  Lets say for a moment there is a conflict of interest:

-The fact is Chobot isn't trying to hide the fact she was in ME3 but she's actually promoting it.  That's full disclosure first off.
-Her job in game journalism is being a host (not anchor), reviewer and reporter on gaming events.  That means she's geared towards opinion pieces which do not fall under objectivity and non bias reporting.  As I mentioned we already know from reviews she really likes Mass Effect.
-Chobot has no history nor do really any other game reporters of digging down to get hard facts on problems in the industry.  That's left to mainstream journalists the same way it is for any other entertainment industries.

A similar situation would be a mainstream reporter getting a cameo part in a movie.  That movie uses some new technology which said reporter has experienced.  The reporter than does a report prior to the release of the movie about that technology.  Is that really a conflict of interests or is it just reporting on something cool?  It's your decision but again it's not a big enough deal for anyone to worry about since everything was out in the open.

Honestly, if you can’t tell the difference between sincere concerns or harmless joking from the asinine comments, I guess that is your problem. I suppose the intelligent comments are the ones from the “fans” wondering if they can boink her, or “omg she so sexy I am tappin that”. Shall I take all her fans and compare them with those people?

I was just takin' the ****** out of ya:D

It is an insult and it isn't. Its pretty damn clear why she got the role included with a face scan. There have been a lot of actors with bigger names, and they're just voice characters. That being said, what she does on IGN is promote an industry, technically that's all game reviewers do. There can't be any journalism because there is no investigaiton of anything. So there can't be bias if she isn't generating anything that should be objective in the first place. It is however insulting to the minority who don't care who they got to play this character, when you look at people getting excited because she's a romance option. That's f**king sad.
