I prefer unmapped faces. Those that use face mapping...they just look so wrong and downright ugly. And I agree, Jack's face is really nice, though, but that would likely be because it doesn't use face mapping.
Face Mapping, yay or nay?

I'm more in favor of "inspired by" than direct mapping. Miranda was okay but still looked extremely weird half the time, and the most recent Bioware mappings I've seen (Jessica Choinsert and Tallis) have looked very strange. Of course, they've proven that it can be done well with Sheploo, so I'm not sure what the problem is.

I think Miranda was very pretty and I never noticed anything weird. My boyfriend who romanced her didn't think she was ugly or anything either. I asked him if he preferred her VA or Miranda and he said he thought Miranda was way better in his opinion. But that could be because Miranda has a big booty and he likes big booties.

I like face mapping because it allows for more realistic looking characters but the problem is it tends to go into uncanny valley at times. For example Joker looks good when static but does anyone else notice that his mouth doesn't quite sync right when he talks? It would be awesome if ME used motion capture like in LA Noire but I guess that's expensive.

Just FYI....most characters use face mapping. Jack, Ashley, Zaeed...all were modeled.
I only discovered Jacob's model last night buuuut...decide for yourselves.

Kenyon Glover
and

Jeff Zalzali (the scar gives it away)
As for Miranda and Yvonne Strahovski...the model is actually mapped perfectly. It's her hair and the almost black lighting in ME2 that throws it off. Yvonne has a head of light (as in weight) blonde hair while Miranda's is dark and wavy which makes her face look very fat at times.

If Jacob looked like that in-game, I'd almost forgive him for his insufferable combat uselessness and creepy mouth animations.

Mapping is fine by me. I prefer it to generic NPC face #812

Edit: Ash's face was mapped, by the way. They just didn't use Brooks.

Dunno who it is, though.
Maybe even the devs don't.

As long as the outcome is good... Jessica Chobot is really pretty. Diana Allers... not so much.

Yay, if its done well, that is.
Sometimes it is also probably better to modify the look then going for full likeness even if the look is based on the VA.

doesn't matter as long as it looks ''realistic''.
