Has anyone noticed that the Animal and Qunari races are 4 attribute points short of the Humans, Elves, and Dwarves?  This would suggest to me that the developers forgot to incorporate racial benefits for the Animal and Qunari.

As the game stands now – Humans get +1 strength, +1 dexterity, +1 magic, and +1 cunning; Elves get +2 willpower, and +2 magic; and Dwarves get +1 strength, +1 dexterity, +2 constitution, and +10% chance to resist hostile magic.

Looking at the starting bonuses alone, Dwarves have the most aptitude compared to the other races.  Dwarves get a total of +4 to attributes like Humans and Elves plus an additional +10% chance to resist hostile magic.  Did the designers even consider balance?

In all honesty, the +10% chance to resist hostile magic doesn’t really count for much since enemy spellcasters are fairly uncommon.  But it still counts for something.

In my opinion, if you are making a Warrior or a Rogue, a Dwarf is the most advantageous race to choose.  Furthermore, if you are making a Dwarven Warrior specializing in two-handed combat, your character makes Sten (a Qunari) completely obsolete.

My suggestion to remedy this is to give the Animal and Qunari the following racial bonuses: Animals gets +1 strength, +1 willpower, and +2 constitution; and Qunari get +2 strength, +1 willpower, and +1 constitution.

Another thing that bothers me is that Animals cannot learn any skills.  It makes sense to omit most skills, but I believe Animals should still be able to learn Survival, Combat Training, and Combat Tactics.  These make sense for an Animal to learn and without access to skills, an Animal it less useful to a party.

On a similar note, a complete lack of skills makes cunning much less useful.  Dexterity is also less useful to Animals because they cannot use ranged weapons (or any weapons for that matter) and therefore cannot make ranged attacks.  This is unintuitive to me, as I would expect a dexterous or cunning Animal to be more capable in combat.  To remedy this, I would suggest incorporating dexterity and cunning into some of the Mabari War Dog’s talents.

Being I am on the subject of Mabari War Dog talents, I must ask – why are there only eight of them?  Lack of creativity maybe?

These are all things that could be fixed by people like us via the toolset.  I hope I gave somebody some ideas.
