They didn't.

I don't feel catered by having followers who enjoy the benefits of owning genetically modified organic weapons and suits of armor that are programmed to evolve as the holder levels up. :alien:

Unmodified, I think DA2's iconic look system rendered the game unplayable. I can't imagine how any iconic look system (including DA3's) would be any different.

Fair enough we were talking at cross purposes, I was talking about Hawke only.

+++++++++++++Player Character ++++++++++++

-Character Origins are unlikely to reappear in ther same form as Dragon Age: Origins. If they do appear again they will be similar to choosing a background in Mass Effect, and will most likely only happen if differant playable races return. (hoping for race selection if not it's dumb)

-The player character will be niether Hawke or the Warden. They are aiming or a new protaginist each game. (hope for a protagonist that i design and not a fixed one)

-The developers are looking into adding more customization than the last game (Dragon Age 2)
(to impress me the level of customization must be like origin or more)

+++++++++++++The Game World +++++++++++++

-Enviornmental Recycling will be kept to a minimum, if not completely removed
(good point)

-Going to be the biggest map in a Dragon Age game, about double the size of Dragon Age: Origins.
(we must see if the areas are detailed and help immersion or are simple geometric empty large areas like dragon age 2 if it's is dumb)

-Will be more open, but not in the sense of a sandbox game. Dragon Age Will still be like other Bioware games, taking part in smaller sections.
(not worryed about that)

-Will be visiting more "Exotic Places"
(i prefear details ill hope for a nice design)

+++++++++++++Story+++++++++++++

-Will Focus more on the conflict between the Templars and Mages.
(banal)

-More about saving the world from itself, instead of a specific evil.
(maybe this can be good)

-Action and Consequence will have more of a bearing.
(let's hope yes but i doubt they reach the witcher 2 level of choices)

+++++++++++++NPCs+++++++++++++

-Morrigan will return, unknown if she will be a Companion.
(don't care)

-Will make friends and enemies, and will have to deal with the consequences of making them.
(unless the rival friendship is present if it is is dumb)

+++++++++++++Combat+++++++++++++

-Combat will be more strategic and tactical.
(with that art direction i doubt but we will see)

-Preparation is key; KNowing party build is essential
(same)

-Positioning of team mates and player will matter. Elevation and Choke-points will be beneficial.
(same)

-Teamwork is being emphasiezed, even more so than just cross class combos.
(let's hope for more customization in that regard)

+++++++++++++Companions+++++++++++++

-Armor for companions will return, but will most likely have no visual effect to maintain the character's "Iconic" Appearance. Will only have statistical affect.
(super dumb)

I didn't expect to have character origins again, but I'm still a little sad that they're (probably) not going to happen. My favorite part of DAO was starting a new character, so I had dozens of 3 or 4 hour saves. Oh well.

I remember in an old thread someone floated the idea of class-based origins, which I thought sounded interesting.

I didn't buy DA2, so, just to go on record, if DA3 contains...
- no racial choices for the PC
- companion armor that doesn't affect appearances, even if it affects stats (Morrigan-style is fine)
- dialogue wheel *
- DA2 Elves
- DA2 Darkspawn
- enemy stats/abilities which are completely different from party stats/abilities
- anime combat
- companions that stick around, much less love me, no matter what I do or who I am
- junk items that are classified as Junk *
- "quests" where I find an item & know who wants it without having met the person
- a static environment I can't affect
- choices without consequences
- (most) stats don't matter
- a set protagonist
- a voiced protagonist *
- only interact with companions when they want to
- a DA2 crafting system
- inexplicable weapon & combat style restrictions based on class (like, Warriors can't Dual Wield)
- player skill > character skill

...then I won't buy it. I'm assuming it won't have recycled areas & parachuting enemies 'cause that's obvious.

Bioware is, of course, free to make a game I won't buy. That should go without saying (despite how much they like saying it), but from what I've read, that's what's going to happen. But I'm free to not buy it, which seems lost on them. Just figured it'd be helpful to say all this now, so I can refer back to this when they say they listened to the fans & don't understand why people didn't buy their game.

* - these are things I might consider accepting, if done really, really well, but I gotta say, I don't believe they can do it well in a DA game

This is probably the best summary of complaints of DA2 i've read so far. Hope you don't mind if i copy this to my letter to santa? :)

Why does everyone forget the art-style and cheesy overall?

I think the more prevailing problem with all things DA2, and most specifically the dialogue-options, was that 99% of the time Hawke, and most other characters were one-dimensional generic idiots (just like out of some cheesy flick, exactly like male Shepard). Or just boring as hell, even if there was potential...
This is in my opinion, of course.

While I'll agree that the Origins were great, and I also created far more characters than I ultimately played, I don't think we need origins as long as they'll let us play a mysterious stranger.

I saw the Origins as a compromise between having a fixed background and allowing the player total freedom to design the background himself.  If we can't get that compromise again, then I'd like to see them revert to having no fixed background at all rather than handing us a fully-formed character.

So basically either the Origins way or the Kotor way. Right?

KotOR and NWN are probably the best BioWare examples.

So, if I'm reading the OP correctly, it sounds like they're going back to the same formula that made DA:O work, and work damn well. Hopefully it continues in this course, though I won't allow myself to get my hopes up as I did for DA2 when I heard the first details.

Though, truth be told, I played the ME3 demo today and was less than impressed by the lack of dialogue options, the general easiness of the game and the complete lack of competent writing. Hopefully the Dragon Age department is saved from this plague of mediocrity, ignoring the blunder that was DA2.

I just hope DA3 can run in my ancient computer....

i don't care much about graphic, as long as it can run smoothly in my computer then it is fine, and no more ugly weapon/armor design, that's all.

I still worry about Mass Effect 3 because of the demo. Big mistake of removing so many dialogue options as that is what made the story and characters work. I will wait another 2 and a half weeks before I say anything more on the matter.

From what I heard and saw in the OP it seems like they are going to go towards what made DA:O a great game and DA2 bare able. My hopes are quite grounded and I still dislike the new protagonist every single game.... No bloody consistency or a connecting story, just a quasi impact on the world. Again Depending on how you played DAO and the DLC my Warden is still very much alive and I felt the story wasn't quite over. Hawke so far has not impressed me much even after a year. So my faith in the DA squad is really really low.

I'd like to be able to change comp apearence based on what they wear, the best compromise will probably be something like ME1 with armors that are intended to specific comps. watching fenris pretending to be a baddass while looking like a barefoot fairy just made me sigh. if by customization they mean like ME3 weapon&armor customization than i'll give it two thumbs up! customizing armor/weapon look and stats is what rpg is all about for me. maybe put some enchanting/crafting system where u can disanchant an item and use its "essense" to give its special properties to another? kinda like in skyrim only better...

Everyone please do not buy DA3 until you read USER reviews first. I can't believe I contributed to their profits by purchasing DA2. Hope you all agree.

Question: Will there at least be multiple options for character "iconic looks"?

In other words, what if we want our pirate companion to wear pants? Posted Image

...Where the hell did this info come from? I want some sources.

EDIT: No wait, the sources are there. My bad.

So DA3? Is it sad to say I want it now? As long as Romance dosen't take up the whole bloody game and that in some way David Hayter is involved, I'm down.
