This month’s challenge is “Oriental Additions”.

While we do have some oriental CC material on the vault, I'd love to see what the monthly team would do for this theme. Some examples... placeables for monks in training, big sleeved chinese robes, paper umbrellas, large intricate tattoos, fighting style animations, sozu, etc. (http://en.wikipedia....i/Shishi_odoshi)
Some creepy oni demons or traditional asian dragons would be fun. Lots of monsters in the cannon books for kara tur campaigns to choose from.

This theme was suggested by Jenna WSI.

Once again, the possibilities for content types are pretty open; NPCs, Creatures, Items, Tiles, Effects, Animations, Sounds & Scripts.

Guidelines:
  • It must be fully working in game.
  • Use of vanilla NWN or publicly available texture is fine, though state-of-the-art amateur's work would require 100% original work, but that's up to you.
  • Teamwork is welcome.
  • Beginners most welcome, don't be afraid, just try, you'll be surprised!
  • All submissions must be finished, working, and emailed to me (NWNCCCMakers @ gmail.com) or a non-Vault link provided by March 1st, 2012 (which is a Thursday) at 10 AM EST. Sooner than that is perfectly fine too. ;-)
Some things you could include in the download/email that would make packaging everything up easier and faster (otherwise I will just pester you with questions!):
  • 2da lines needed.
  • Screenshot *from in game* for use on the vault page (this also gives me hints on how to display the new goodie).
  • Portraits (if needed) of your new goodie. ** Placeables and monsters should include a portrait. **
  • Inventory icons (if needed) of your new goodie.
  • Any credits you would like listed.
  • If this is your first entry, please tell me what name you would like your work listed under and provide a link to your other NWN content if you want that displayed as well (the link bit is totally optional).
  • Also if you would like an invite to the CC Makers group, send Rolo Kipp a friend invite. The group is nothing spectacular, mostly just documentation on 2da lines.
  • If you are doing tileset content, *please* let me know ahead of time so I can get you the set and itp files to work with. I’m horrible at merging those so this bit you will need to provide.
Remember, the Challenge is all about fun, sharing, creativity and surprise!
If you have concerns/questions about this month’s Challenge please post in this thread.

If you want to discuss the Monthly Custom Content Challenge idea as a whole or wish to submit ideas/themes for future monthly Challenges, please post in its thread here
***When submitting a new theme, please provide a title and short summary of the theme.***

If you have a technical question about some custom content creation, please create a separate thread so that the answers can be found later by anyone, not just people interested in this Challenge. We'll try to help!

Have no fear and join the fun!

And finally, you can:
vote for March’s theme. The voting dead line is March 1st, 2012 at 8 AM EST.

TSL just pointed me at Shemsu-Heru's More Asian heads! Oh, sa-WEET! =)

Anyone know how to contact him/her? I'd really like to send an invitation to this month's CCC =)

Victory!
Whaaat. How did I not find these heads? Oh, they were only just added to the vault. Perfect timing. :)

Edit: Aw.... no textures at all for those heads.

They come with PLT files.  Are you by any chance attempting to view them in game under Linux?

Nope! I downloaded, made a hak, then viewed them in nwnexplorer. pfh 130 doesn't show texture, but 136 does. It's weird.

I'd really really really love these in halfling and elven size. I need to learn how to do that. >.<

Hrm, I didn't see any problem with them in the toolset but maybe I didn't test them all.  Anyway, those will serve as a good inspiration for this month's challenge!

You're right, they work in the toolset.

I notice the line going down the middle of some faces. If anyone can tell me how to remove it, and make the alternate race forms I'll give it a go with the author's permission.

I've noticed that I occassionally see no textures and it turns out to be an issue with my integrated video card....

The line down the middle is probably caused by the vertices of the two halves of the head models not being welded.

As far as using the heads for other races, I think that'd be a matter of some renaming (of both the head models and .plt files), resizing, and (possibly) realigning to match up with positions of existing heads.

I suppose I may polish up my lying-around Oriental City tileset a bit.

And we have a taker! Er, giver. Oh, you know what I mean :-)

First entry and, judging by the peeks we've had, something to match Zwerkules' Roman tileset!

WooHOO!

Rolo Kipp has started a "project" for each month of the challenge for doing things like coordinating 2da and art resource use between contributors (here's the one for this month), and you can evidently specify a logo image for each one.

I took some photographs of an abandoned amusement park that the chinese government built, complete with a small (but to scale, downsized) great wall of china. Something there might work.

Perhaps this, or a crop of one of the budha statues. *shrug* Old work, but at least I own the copyright :)

I think that my contribution this month will be a prefab area with some scripting.  I'll be making a small training area for a seaside monk monastery.

It'll include at least a couple of combat dummy placeables.  If anyone makes new ones (wing chun wooden dummies come to mind) for this month, they could easily be substituted in for the end of the month demo modulejust by changing the placeable appearances.

Gotta have some variety in my stuff, so newer CC peeps can see it ain't just new models this game benefits from. There's also scripting, area layout, creative descriptions...

There is a nice wing-chun dummy placeable available on the vault. I think it is in Coulisfu's Oriental Rural tileset. He also has an interior tileset. Would be interesting if someone extended this existing work.

When Six said he would be polishing up his oriental tileset I thought I could be lazy this month and don't do anything for this challenge, because I had thought about making an oriental tileset, too. But his oriental tileset is a chinese tileset and what I wanted to build was an arabian city.
So you migh get two city tilesets this months if I don't decide to be lazy. :P

Thank you :-)

@ TAD: The prefab sounds very interesting to Amethyst.
One of my Monty-Hall T-cell mechanisms are Dragon Monks from the Thousand Isles of the Winds (definitely seaside ;-). They go out on missions to harvest any artifact that becomes too well known. By buying it, stealing it or beating-the-owner-senseless it. They are all Monk/Dragon Disciples, of course. Except for the Cleric/DD and the Roque/DD and the Wiz/DD... Heh.

Does anyone know if japanese-style sword-stands have been done before? (Don't have access to the vault from here :-/) I'm leaning in that direction for Cestus, though he's kinda champing to try samurai armor. Think that's a big chunk to chew with the other stuff we have going on, though.

@ Tiberius: Um, speaking of Cestus, I could really use a couple of those loot-worthy chests right about now. Seems the stingy critter wont do a thing without a bit of glitter up-front :-(

*sigh*
I've promised to get my Regional PoC done before doing more CCC stuff... So I guess I'm not making a decision just yet :-P

Here's some clothing inspiration, if anyone wants to do clothing. I may post more images later, so expect the spam :)

There's some in CEP actually, a display made to sit on a desk or whatever.

<getting more ideas...>

I'll look at them. They are probably the two-sword horizontal type. That still leaves the vertical katana/no-dachi stand. And folding screens. Possibly the opium pipe... <stop, boss>
Ok.

Lady, you sure make me wish Lisa was still making clothing! Those kimonos would be fantastic :-)
Scarlet is drooling (my most active dragon monk, currently loitering in Arbor Falls :-P).
