<feeling a bit...>

Zwerk, you keep making huge, fantastic contributions and you think I might niggle about the deadline <considering *he* hasn't finished his demo for rogues, yet...>
Precisely.

You take the first weekend in March. Then we'll add what you have by then and we'll hope for an update for v2 in April. Id rather people like the dodgy dwarf stick to the deadline... <oooh! you're gonna pay for that, boss!>
(In ale, I know.) ...but this is a volunteer, community thing and flexibility is key.

Opinions?

I agree with Jenna. Setting the first deadline as hard is better. Then let the rest filter in when it does.

<looking startled...>

My pardon, Shemsu. I didn't mean to imply I was staking them out :-P The opposite, actually.

I was trying to a) point out that I agree that we need oriental style dragons and the Mist Dragon would make a good base and B) that it will be a long time before I get around to them. :-/

Sorry for the confusion. Metallic Dragon re-make is big on my list of things needed for Amethyst, but has a lot of other things I need to do first...

Though I agree with H about the weather effects... If you read The Art Of Hiding Treasure, you'll see that ;-)

I get distracted for a leetle tiny while and you guys do all sorts of things. Not fair!:(

@ Z: Really digging the oasis thing, but, um, where's the alleys! *stomps tiny feet* <_<

@ Roly poly: I agree with Hen-dude. Make a deadline soft and it's just a suggestion. As you've said before, you're already herding cats, so why jump in the middle of the herd and shout "BOO!:P

@ the Dodgy Dwarf: Neat idea, especially if you can make it an effect or tail or whatever. How's that thief-proof vault thing working out for ya? *very coy look before breaking out in giggles*

Here's the prototype of the Tessen.

I made it the same size as the arc of the kama... but that's simply too big. :P
They need to be dainty and graceful, like me :D
I'll try it about 25% smaller before I start working on the anims...

Any advice for animating weapons? I know it can be done (flails, whips) but I haven't actually done it yet.

Oh.
Z.
Bad dwarf!
Very bad dwarf!
Fimble

When I'm done with the old dwarf, I'll have to give you some personal attention...

Ciao!

Try it with the alternative combat animations and see if one matches closely, then edit it?

Pen-
you are creating custom animations for a new weapon type? I'd take a look around at how exactly that is done before committing.

The alternate combat animations use a different phenotype.

I suspect that the best way to handle this would be to group your new weapon with the Kama's. And then treat all the custom animations for it as a separate set of custom content. (Its a lot of work). Create a new phenotype that contains the animations you want for that weapon. This animation set (phenotype) would be turned on via an onequip/onunequip set of scripts that look for your weapon. The drawback with phenotype however is that robes and cloaks also need to be added to the phenotype or else they won't be shown during combat. But thats just the way the NWN cookie crumbles. I for example haved ported 100's of MBs of clothing without ever touching gmax. Its something that you can leave to the builder.

Also... isn't there a similar weapon in CEP? I don't use CEP but I've seen many scripts and 2DAs that works with CEP and noted some weapon names that sound like what you are doing. Dragon Fan or some such was in there. I wonder if your weapon would fit in one of the CEP groupings.

Oh, I'm not talking about the N/PC animation. That works well.:?

I'm talking about unfolding the fan for slashr/l anims and folding it for slashs (stab) anims, folding it for pause, unfolding it for pause-bored, etc.

One of the really attractive things about the tessen is the motion and dance of it folding/unfolding and rotating. I want that. Made it with 9 blades that pivot about the base hinge (central blade is the weapon "top") so that it will not only animate in use, but be customizable later.

But thanks! :D

I guess the alleys will just have to wait for another month because if I really have to upload the arabian tileset on the first of March, I won't have enough of it done so it will have to be in V2.0. Then I'll get a whole month more to work on it and make palaces and the like and I'll not work on the alleys. :P

And you should take being compared to a fimble as a compliment. ;)

What do you mean, 'the old dwarf'? I thought I was the old dwarf. Cestus might be younger than me. :D

<laughing so hard...>

Cestus? Younger? Than *anyone*? <he's younger than you>
Not technically. I'm about mid sixties now... <*glares*>
Don't get mad at *me*. I'm not the one who signed up for a lifetime gig with an immortal... <you weren't immortal then, old man>
Take it up with Her. I just work here. <snails. lots and lots of snails. down your back, in your food, even strategically placed around the garderobe>
Oh, that's *low*. You wouldn't. <tell me how glossy my feathers are and how young i look and *maybe* i'll leave the privy private>
And a chocolate covered rainbow snail? <deal!>

Edit: Amethyst will have 4 age-related feats: Venerable, Old, Ancient and Vast Experience. Cestus has the first 3.
Edit 2: Alleys shmalleys. Work on anything you want, 'cuz I, er, we want it all =)

I've got room on this list for you, sweet rollo...

Hrmmmph.<_<

Well, I wouldn't really mind a palace or two to raid... :)

As for relative ages, who said this?

Don't kill me! I'm too young to die!

Not that age means much to me. :P
But you seem much less grumpy than the old dwarf :D

Well, maybe just less grumpy...

TTFN!

Looking for opinions from others here.

I'm starting work on my prefab "monk training" area today. I wanted to make it plug and play without non-default resources, but I'm thinking that I may need to use something like the CEP. The default resources basically have nothing as far as oriental placeables, and I kind of think they're almost necessary when making this sort of area. And I know the CEP has a variety of things i could use.

So, what do ya'll think? Yes to using CEP in this, or no?

I like this idea.  What I'd do is extract one of the models that includes the animations, such as heavy flail top part 1 color 1, which is the supermodel used for all the flails and morning stars (off the top of my head, I think it's wbflh_t_011.mdl).  This should give you the framework for the animations needed.  Not the motions themselves (which you obviously don't want), but which animations are used by a weapon and for how many/which frames.

If this works out, I might have to borrow your finished animations for the war fans I added to my PW a while ago (which are just static kama variants).

 <sipping a particularly fine brandy...>

My first response was, honestly, "Uggh". But, except for a couple caveats, I'm for it.

First, The CCC has the requirement that everything must work in game without additional haks. This means you'd have to clear the use of any CEP material with whoever is running it (edit: and extract it). That part's on you and I don't know why there would be any problem, but it's something to keep in mind.

Second, CCC content is supposed to be original. I truly *encourage* derivative work such as re-skinning or modifying existing, previously released stuff. But it's supposed to be something new. If you were going to do that, there'd be no doubt in my mind at all that it was cool :-)

But then, if you were going to do that you wouldn't be asking such a thorny question :-P

So now let me add a caveat to my caveat - as I said to Zwerk and as I've said to others, The CCC is a fantastic *volunteer* program and flexibility is key. Not only is it terribly easy to drive people away, but it's horribly easy to mute the "Fun" button :-(

I think *minor* use of previously released content, so long as credit is given and permission asked, should not only be permitted, but encouraged. It gives secondary exposure to material that we obviously (if we want to use it again) like and it doesn't hurt the spirit of the CCC much. It might even invigorate the "market", so to speak.

That said, we come to my "Uggh". I was bit once (pretty hard) by some really nice CEP content. The last thing I want is a "cease and desist" order from Blizzard Ent. Uggh.

*phew!* Got it all out :-) Those are my *opinions* and certainly not in anyway a "ruling" or anything. I'll be damned before I'll become a martinet :-P

So now I can sit back, relax and watch the flames :-)

<...and relaxing into his favorite armchair>

Well, that is certainly the *ideal* solution =)

But the question is pertinent and should be hashed out for future reference, also. I'm very interested in what our other regulars have to say.

*Eyes Rolo and thinks he has the makings of a politician.*  What an answer!  Far more correct than my initial reaction of ‘OH HEL…HECK NO’.  In caps.  With feeling.  *sassy grin*

You pose a seriously sticky and complicated question.  My two cents worth of an answer (and wow am I glad Rolo has the lead now!):

If you know where the CEP content that you like came from, as in who posted it to the Vault originally, trace it back, and check their EULA (or if they are still active, ask ‘em).  If allowed, pull the bits you like, change ‘em somehow.  Perhaps a texture modification?  That would stay within the loose rules/intent of the challenges.

Coulisfu has a nice collection of placeables in his tileset.

The original thought wasn't about re-releasing stuff that's in the CEP, but using it in a prefab area. Basically a separate demo module for the area with CEP attached.

I can readily see the requirement to do without though, as stuff from the CCC should be as easy for builders to adapt use on it's own as possible. Who knows, there might be builders out there that just add the latest CCC hak to the top of their module's hak list every month. :)

I'm sure it won't take me long to whip up a few oriental-looking flags, a combat dummy or two, and maybe another prop or two. And there's that extra day this month to work. :P

In need of some atmosphere placeables for a prefab monk area, so I made them.  No progress yet on the area itself, but the placeables are 99% done (just need to make portraits for them).

Here's a preview with bioware social sized images (max of 540 pixels in either direction...yuck).
