@Jedimaster88, you seem to vastly overrate the power of a King. In most systems (and certainly in medieval Europe), their power was far from absolute. They were not above the law and were frequently forced to compromise their own wishes in order to avoid offending their vassals or the Church. And as far as naming your successor, some kings did do that, but the result was very often civil war after their deaths.
Hmm I was expecting something like this. Its been some years since my last history lessons so I dont remember much about medieval times and kings. Still you´d think that a king has at least some power of his own, that allowes him to decide who to be with. You talk as if a king is some sort of prisoner that has absolutely no free will and no right to do anything on his own and thats not how I see them. I´ve always thought that they have power over some certain matters at least.
As for the successor business. Yes civil wars are possible, especially if there are really power hungry people around. In the end is it much different if there is an heir? Some scheming bas**** might as well assasinate the their and there could still be civil war in the end.
