The winners are announced!

A big thank you to all of you who took part. I am always amazed at the response we get from out fans when we ask for submissions, whether they are writing, art or some other challenge.

Check out the list of winners (David chose the top 20, then whittled it down to the winners) and make sure you read David Gaider's blog entry on the contest including handy tips on how to enter such a contest again in the future (a "do/don't" list if you will).

Once again, thanks. :)

Aww, I think this could be a temporary end to my writing endeavors. :crying: Pretty sad not to even warrant top 20 out of 400 entries.  Pardon me; I'm going to go drown my head in a toilet.

Congratulations to the winners :)

I'm just thrilled to see names (and stories) on that list that I've become very accustomed to seeing the past weeks. *So* thrilled for everyone!

Well, I should probably stop lurking now. I never imagined I'd place in the top 20, let alone the top 5... The time to be painfully shy has passed.

Will post a link to my story when I get home from work... would love to share with all the superbly talented writers who took part.

Congrats to everyone who placed and won the contest!

Though I didn't place, it was still a blast to participate. Between my own hindsight and the companion piece that David wrote, I have seen a myriad of mistakes I made with my entry. That said, I think learning my own errors is just as much a prize as actually placing in the contest, so it feels good regardless.

That said, I'll be posting my entry later on today after work. As much as I might have made mistakes, it would be criminal not to share it with everyone else who put forward such great effort into this contest. Like I've always told myself, sometimes stumbling along the way is the best method to learn.

I have been another lurker on the thread the past couple of weeks. I was admittedly very nervous, even superstitious about posting my story publicly before the winners were announced. While I didn't place, it was a blast to participate. If anyone is interested in reading my story, check it out at my blog, http://themarriedgamer.com

Thank you to everyone who shared. I'm very excited to read some of the winning entries.

I feel a little dissapointed, but this just proves I have a long way still. While I don't know how well I did, at least I know I was below twenty people. I hope they do this again, I'm more than eager to try out a second time. It was more than just fun.

Holy (swear filter.)

Very honoured that my story, and more accurately, my idea for a character; Pinch, made the Top 20.

Also, I lost my $20. The one I thought was going to win isn't there. Mind you, I don't think I've read any of the top five. Will rectify that, ASAP.

O

I was the same, I haven't posted because I didn't want to jinx it. To be picked top twenty, let alone top five is the craziest thing, wasn't expecting it at all, but just to know that the writers looked at it has helped counteract my horrible writer's confidence (and now I can't stop writing!) It's amazing that they looked at all of them!! Congrats to all the entrants, I'm so excited to start reading all that I've found posted on here!

I feel the same way :) It was way more than fun.  I think I would enter a writing contest here again.  I think I would.  It is frustrating, not knowing why your story was passed over, but that is part of writing.  You send out your heart and soul, it comes back with a form rejection letter.

I've been writing for twenty years; I was accepted into an MFA program (I didn't go; I decided to focus on children's literature), and hey, my other fiction posted online has bajillions of reviews (okay, not exactly that many).

But still.  But still.

Maybe next time.  ;)

Good job, everyone.  I know we all tried really hard, and so far the winning entries that I've read have been really great reads.  Deserved.

Congratulations to all!

I look forward to reading the stories! I'm always learning when I'm reading those stories, and I believe I have learned a lot the past years. Even though I don't have a beta reader, I look forward to experiment more with English and writing.

I liked it, very sad.

Congratulations to the winners.  I didn't submit, but will look forward to reading others.

While I've gotten a lot of rejection letters during my so-called career as a writer. This one, by far, stings the worst.

/mope

To those that placed in the top 20: félicitations à tous!

Aside from a few grammatical errors, ColorMeSurprised's story was excellent. I intend to read Scary Lady's entry when it becomes available on FF.net.

I'm very interested in reading the others, particularly Kilyra's story, but he/she seems to be a ghost on these boards. Any chance BW would simply publish excerpts of the winners on the front page like you did with the Tallis contest?
