I agree with Oruehi very much. Don't get me wrong, I'm not bashing Windows (as cool as it is to make fun of it). OSs are, really, a matter of personal preference because, for the average user, there's nothing you can do on one that you can't do on the other. I personally prefer OS X. That doesn't make me 1337 h44x0rz or whatever; it's a personal preference.

When it comes to more specialized things, there are differences. I work in film and I much prefer the tools offered to me by Final Cut Studio than anything on the Windows platform. My father owns a recording studio and, while yes, Apple used to have the upper-hand in the audio department as well, now-a-days, Windows is the platform to work on if you're doing serious stuff. Many developers have come out with plugins and such that are absolutely amazing and... Windows only.

Similarly, if you're purchasing a computer to play games on, then you should buy a PC with very solid hardware because that's what'll get the job done better. I personally only purchase about 4 or 5 games a year and I buy them all for my 360 because I enjoy playing games on consoles and I also don't feel the need to have a Mac AND a PC. DA:O is the only game in about the last 5 years that has come out that makes me want to have a PC and then again, the only reason for that is because of the modding tools.

So please keep this discussion on topic and try to not go the troll route. This is meant to be helpful and informative for people that it may help.

Tootles,

Mr. Dark

XP is still the lighter OS, and if you still have it don't "upgrade".

Yes, and Windows '95 is lighter still.  If you're using Windows '95 don't bother to "upgrade."  :huh:

Oh my this thread is filled with @#$@%@.

@OP
Did you try Parallels or a similar application? Bootcamp is ok, but I really do not want
to burden my Mac with windows rubbish.

Lol...I love posts like this.  Virtualization tech like Parallels, Virtual PC, Virtual Box, etc. doesn't work for most modern, graphics-intensive games because of the way the HAL is virtualized.  Compatibility layers like Cider and Wine can work for some, but it's typically far from ideal...especially with modern games.  Bootcamp is great, and installing another OS along-side MacOS doesn't "burden" your precious status symbol Mac in any way, shape, or form.

Reminds me of a guy on the Bethesda forums the other day claiming that his friend was "bombarded with viruses"  the second he set up Bootcamp on his Mac.  The level of FUD combined with the lack of any actual technical knowledge is just really not helpful to anyone.  Platform fanboys with no actual computer knowledge could really be more helpful by not posting at all.  This goes for the anti-Mac people as well.

All the OS/Console/Platform/Brand rivalries are really, unhelpful, pointless, irritating, and immature.  Rage about your hatred/love/jealousy of Windows/Macs/Linux/Consoles/Etc quietly and to yourself, please.  Chances are you're only going to embarass yourself by spouting FUD, nonsense, and spoon-fed marketing rather than anything useful anyway.
:pinched:

OP, this is a good thread.  Ignore the insecure platform bashers.
