Game edition: Original Release
Format game media: Originally retail CD's, but  CD's got damaged and registered CD-keys on EA Origin.
Patch version: 1.04
Processor Type: Intel Core i7 Q720 1.60Ghz
Amount of system RAM: 4GB
Video card: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5730 1GB, driver 12.1
Sound adapter: Speakers (Realtek High Definition Audio)
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate, 64-bit
Third party mods: no

List of things I tried to fix this:
- cleaning Windows Registry using CCleaner
- deleted contents of Temp folder in C:\\Windows\\
- terminated unnecessary processes that could conflict with the game
- updated my videocard to the latest version
- restarted my laptop a lot
- reinstalled the game several times

Description of problem:

I wanted to play DAO again and inserted my Awakening CD in my laptop, since I have the expansion installed. However, my laptop couldn't find it. As it turned out, the CD was damaged and my laptop could only find it half the time.

Because I didn't want to keep on ejecting and inserting the CD in my laptop, I tried registering my CD keys to Origin. After having done that I had made a backup of all the installed third party mods (AddIns folder, data folder, override folder, AddIns.xml, Characters  folder, etc) and uninstalled the game.

I then downloaded the game through Origin. To my surprise, the game installed itself immediately after the download was finished. There was no screen showing the progress of the installation, only Origin told me it was busy installing it.

After it was done I wanted to test out if I needed a CD or something. So I opened Origin, clicked on the Awakening icon to play the game. At the DAO launcher, I clicked on the Play-button. And then I waited. But after 5 minutes of having a black screen, I pressed Ctrl + Alt + Del to open up Task Manager. I saw that DAO "wasn't responding" and terminated the process.

After that, I launched the game a second time, thinking it was nothing more than an error. But it kept on happening and happening. So I decided to reinstall the game, hoping it would fix the issue. But it didn't. Cleaning my register and restarting my laptop didn't help either.

I went to these forums and tried searching for other cases where this was happening, but the search function cluttered up the results with unrelated DAO cases instead of similar Origin cases. Then I contacted EA Support and they told me to empty the Temp folder in the Windows directory, close some processes and install the latest drivers. After having done this and a laptop restart, I could play DAO again. Convinced the issue was solved, I shut down my laptop and went to sleep.

Today I started the download of Awakening, which Origin installed immediately after the download was done without notifying me or showing any progress bar or window. After the installation, I launched the game by clicking on Awakening in Origin. And then the same crashes happened again. I tried all of the above again, but it didn't help. I uninstalled and reinstalled Origin again (still no mods and no Awakening), went through the same steps again, but still the same crashes. I don't know what to do anymore.

The strangest thing about this is that DAO ran fine when I was still using the CD's. No problems during startup of the game or anything. After the reinstallation I didn't reinstall the mods right away, because I wanted to test DAO first to see if nothing was wrong.

Firewalls or antivirus programs cannot be at fault here because ME2 on Origin launches without any trouble and without crashing. And other games outside Origin run fine.

Is there anything that can be done, except for purchasing a new copy of the game?

(This has been a long post and there are probably some mistakes here and there. If there's anything unclear, just let me know and I'll try to explain.)
