Landing in the Hot Zone: Steve Cortez Discussion Thread

Not to say that the romance arc wasn't 100% lacking, though. Seeing Steve cry as he hears the audio recording from his husband was definitely a heartbreaking moment. And yeah, the ending still sucketh but it was nice to see Steve come out of the Normandy at endgame along with Vega. At least there was some consolation in that.

My problem with both Steve and Kaidan's romance is that there's a big gap between the date scene and the sex scene before Cronos Station. That's a problem with all romances in ME3 though, but especially new ones. There really should've been a 'middle' romance scene to make the pacing better. At least Steve has tons of ambient romance lines in between the date and sex scene, probably the most of all characters. But for my future playthroughs, I will just leave Steve and Kaidan's date scene for (much) latter in the game.MageTarot wrote...
So this afternoon I finished my first M!Shep/Cortez playthrough and I have to say that I really wish there was more to it. It just felt that there should have been more to the romance scene than just a cutaway then the dream sequence then the wake-up scene. They really could have used the body models for the M!Shep/Kaidan scene and just make the model for Cortez darker. Would that have been so difficult?

Anyway, which was your favourite romance line with Steve Mage?

No Steve, my Shep loves you
Ohh and of course how asks my Shep if he needs help with "reports" again tonight xD
I lol'd when Steve told Shepard he was thnking about the cramped space Shepard had to share with his squad mates when leaving the Reaper Dreadnought with Legion piloting and Shepard suggested that next time they can 'do it under the bed'.
Makes you kind of wonder what else Shepard learned during his Spectre training!

I think they did a great job with Cortez and his romance up until you finish the club scene. It's like everything after that is just rushed and he's sort of forgotten. Plus it really sucks that in the end scene as Shepard is about to activate the catalyst you don't even get a cut to Steve's face like you do with Kaidan, instead they give you LIARA! (that **** lol). Even though I'm a kaidanite now I still have my saved game with Steve and I hope they give us some closure in the DLC.
Oh and lastly the lighting during the Steve romance scene is terrible, I know he's dark but it was like making love to a shadow with blue eyes.

Steve suffers from the same romantic dry spell that all the other LI's do after they get together. Although I will say, having played through the Kaidan romance and now playing through the Liara romance, Steve is a lot flirtier than either of them when you talk to him. The Liara thing with the flashback isn't limited to Steve. It happens with any LI that's not Kaidan or Ashley. It's very annoying. I'm hoping they fix that in the extended cut, but I'm not holding my breath.

That's surely gonna get fixed. Bioware did intend to show all LIs, but for some technical reasons they couldn't get anyone but ME1 LIs' flashbacks to work before going gold. Miranda, Tali, Garrus etc. dont' have these flashbacks either. But since it was their intention to show everyone, I'm positive it will get fixedAndreasShepard wrote...

Yeah, I wish Kaidan had as much romance lines in between the main scenes as Steve haskaterinafm wrote...
Just finished a playthrough with Steve romanced and I have to say that I loved it. The subtle changes between a romanced and unromanced Steve are great. And the flirty lines he has when he's out of dialogue are certainly better than Kaidan's 'Yeah, let's talk later' line you get regardless of romance. Definately made up for him not being part of your active squad

We finally learn who wrote Cortez and it's... Dusty Everman who most already know from writing Dr. Chakwas, Ken, Gabby and Kelly
Hoepfully Dusty will visit this thread, he's been very active in Ken/Gabby's thread here
Flirting Sheptez as a bonus ;P

I do visit this thread from time to time. The reason I spoke out so much in the Ken/Gabby thread was because we accidentally shipped with a nasty bug that basically cut them from most player's games. Thank goodness that didn't happen with Cortez.

Any chance for more Steve in future DLC?
Also, as a Vega fan, I very much appreciate their banter in the Shuttle Bay. Did you work on it together with Mac Walters (who I believe wrote Vega)?

I'm glad to hear you like them. I wrote the banter, then Mac did a voice pass on James' lines. Carlo Lynch, the editor for that conversation, did any last tweaks.IsaacShep wrote...

Thank you, Dusty. I love to see in ME3 the these small Sheperd's steps towards Cortez. From a member of the ship's crew, pilot shuttle to a friend and finally "more than just a friend". For me mShepard/Cortez story is more interesting and well written than mShepard/Kaidan Alenko. And of course, we want more Steve...Dusty Everman wrote...

I loved them. Gonna be honest, if it wasn't for those banters, I wouldn't like Vega nearly as much as I did. He's an interesting character but it's his friendship with Steve that show his friendly/caring sideDusty Everman wrote...

Also, Dusty, what does T-65 Trident looks like? Did we see it anywhere in ME3 (or ME1/ME2)? Can't find any more info on that so I was wondering whether Steve referenced some particular freighter or was it a name you came up with specifically for the purpouse of that conversation

I love how much interaction there is before the romance. It's as well done as in ME2, where you had to get to know the squadmates first and solving their "loyalty problems" before going deeper into the relationship. Makes it seem very natural.ElijahRee wrote...

New guy here, but been lurking for a little while. I also wanted to just give my thanks to Dusty Everman as well. Steve was definitely a great edition to the game. Not only was I grateful to have the inclusion of s/s relationships included (always wanted to romance Kaidan since ME1), but to have second option as well was fantastic. And that he is latino as well, he's basically reppin me in there too.
But honestly, he even surpasses Kaidan. From "getting to know you" phase, helping him get over the grief of losing his husband, becoming friends, and then eventually lovers was really well done. Especially when you think that the concept of time as the game progesses actually takes place over the course of a few months. The BIG PLUS that he has over Kaidan is the fact that he seems to always acknowledges his and Shep's relationship. Kaidan has "grander" scenes, but his "walk-up-to" dialog was severely lacking. Where, on the other hand, Steve always has something to say, even after anything he mentions in regards to any of the missions. This made it feel a bit more real between them. Steve will always be my choice for my Shep.
Anyways....sorry for the rant. Again just wanted to say hi and also thanks Dusty.

Hi Angelwave, welcome! You've mentioned something I've been wondering about since some time. Steve definitely has latino roots but isn't he also partially black? I saw quite a few comments on the net saying that he's "blatino", rather than just pure latino. Hmmm... Hope Dusty pops in again and could tell us more about his ethnicity/heritageAngelwave wrote...

Yeah I'd say he is mixed. Actually most latin cultures, have a wide range of racial variety, including Asian believe it or not. So it wouldn't surprise me. Heck people look at me, and everyone gets confused.
