I have two questions, guys... Replaying ME1, ME2 after, a bit more renegadey Shep than usually, this time... Should I play as gayShep and not romance anyone or hook up with Liara? Second, should I kill Ash or Kaidan? After ME3 it seems harder to make such choices, especially in the light of the-endings-that-dare-not-speak-their-names... M.

I heard that Shepard can bring up a dead LI to Cortez for some empathy for a line or two but that would require playing a bisexual Shepard and all my males are gay. You can just start up the pre-game comic in ME2 and choose to romance Ashley and sacrifice her on Virmire if you do not want to go through the whole ME1 game and possibly mess up establishing her as a LI without sleeping with her.

I apologize if I am passing along a false rumor since I have not done it myself.

I like ME1. In fact, I'm beggining to appreciate "stupid" Shep who asks dumb questions. And it is interesting to talk about Liara's father for example, when you know the truth... M.

Made a list of some of the fanfics I've read for the Fanfic thread in "Fan Creations" forums, posting it here too :D

"Downtime" (mShep/Cortez, MA, long)
Drinking with Dr. Chakwas reminds Shepard how lucky he is not only to survive this long but to find happiness with Steve as well. Shepard decides to not take one moment for granted, as Steve told him, and spend the rest of the downtime on making love with his man.

"The Talk" (mShep/Cortez + Vega, T)
Vega sort of sees Esteban as his surrogate little brother, and Shepard as his hero/idol. And then the two of them get together. Now he's got to give the "that's my brother, you break his heart, I break you" speech to Shepard.

"Smile" (mShep/Cortez, M, short)
"If your wondering why i'm smiling. Is because I keep thinking about last night." What exactly made Cortez smile while he was with Shepard. ;)

"Bloodkin" (FemShep/Cortez friendship, T, long)
Shepard is injured during a mission - badly enough to need a blood transfusion. Turns out Cortez is the best match - and he offers willingly. After the treatment is finished, Earthborn Shepard can't help but wonder if that somehow makes makes Steve her only family, with the 'same blood' running in their veins.

"That Went Well" (mShep/Cortez + Grunt: "That Went Well", T, short)
Little does Steve know, being with Shepard comes with an 800 lb baby. Cortez meets Shepard's son :)

"Between the Stars" (mShep/Cortez, MA)
Unable to sleep at night, Shepard and Steve meet in the Shuttle Bay with no one else around. After a bit of teasing and laughs, they give in to each other.

"The Future's So Bright" (mShep/Cortez, T)
After the war, Shepard takes the seat on the Council and has to deal with all the problems of the universe. But what he's worried about the most is that he doesn't have enough time for his husband.

"Falling Down the Mountainside" by mjules (mShep/Cortez, T)
Cortez and Shepard have a quiet moment alone after recovering from the end events of Mass Effect 3. (Assumes certain choices and theories about the end of game.)

"Inside James Vega’s Mind" by Kateryn (mShep/Cortez + Vega, T, short)
Feelings of jealousy arise in Vega's head when Shepard and Steve start dating.

"This is Love" by Stephanie (mShep/Cortez, M)
Early in the morning, Steve prepares breakfast for Shepard and wants to get to work, but Shepard has something else on his mind which unexpectedly helps Steve say those 3 words he was holding back for so long.

"Lost Without You" by mjules (mShep/Cortez, T)
There are still scattered husks roaming the streets of London when Steve Cortez sets out on foot, pistol strapped to his hip and assault rifle in his hand. He’s a pilot, not a soldier, and he doesn’t have Shepard’s terrifyingly impressive biotics, but there’s nowhere to set the shuttle down that close to the beam.

Will add more later :) For now there's tons of reading for everyone :P

In retrospect I really like ME1 for the story and grainy graphics but I know find the game-play painful. ME2 is the opposite in that I like the game-play and the story and writing annoying and the graphics almost cartoony. I now consider it a better produced Dragon Age 2 clone (even though it came out first). I appreciate the ME3 game merging the two games' looks and really like the game-play when my hands are actually coordinated.

I like how it was easy to mod a gay Shepard with almost anyone in the early game and am grateful for the s/s options in ME3.

I was also surprised I forgot how "stupid" or downright evil Shepard could be in earlier games and can understand why some players are sad such options are not in ME3. But Shepard would truly be stupid to antagonize or murder all of his potential resources now that the Reapers are here.

And to bring it back on topic I am SO happy you can kiss a certain LI on the dance floor. There is something wonderful about that special moment that occurs in public spaces and you do not give a damn how many people are around you.

My #1 problem with ME3 is autodialogue. Combat-wise though, they finally got it really right. I don't like combat either in ME1 or ME2.

I was very happy about that. It could sure use lighting fix (same during Jack's dancing scene) but I was so glad I could interrupt-kiss Steve in that scene <3 So sweet! And even just dancing, they don't care, it ain't a problem at all that they're dancing with each other! :crying::crying::wub::wub::wub:<3<3<3

Ohh and as for my list of fics, I highly recommend "That Went Well". It's very short but just ridiculously adorable, especially for all the fans of Grunt who treat him like he's Shep's adopted Krogan son!:wub::wub:

BTW, another question. 16/20 year-old couple, is that okay or not? I mean, in my head and world it's ok, but generally? 16 is underage, right? M.

Thanks for the fanfic compilation, IssacShep!

Props to Bioware for putting a lot of effort into making a more inclusive game (it isn't perfect, but it earned my appreciation).  Too bad the awesomeness of the single-player game doesn't necessarily translate into the multiplayer.  Anybody run into blatant homophobia in the multiplayer arena?  It isn't fun to get assassinated by a banshee and and definitely isn't fun to get called "f*****" for it.

It is difficult to pigeon hole EVERY romantic or sexual situation but I would seriously advise against it unless the two have grown up together or something. Two people who just meet and hook up in that situation is a potential disaster waiting to happen in most situations IMHO.

My connection is not fast enough to really take advantage of MP and I have to use Abispa's since his account is the XBox Gold one. There just is not enough MP options on the games I play for me to shell out for my own Gold status.

As for the idiots you have played with just note their IDs and avoid them in the future. Not sure how easy it is to report players on MP games since I have not done so on Origin or XBox Live yet. You are better off not letting them play with you anyway.

Oh man, more fanfic to add to my "need to read" list. I think I read these things more than playing the game recently. :pinched:

A side effect of not wanting to witness the ending anymore than five times I think. <_<

Thanks Isaac!

In some countries, 16 is the legal age of consent. Obviously in the US and Canada, it's 18. Personally that age gap isn't that bad (it's only four-year difference), but 16 is the youngest anyone should want to go. It is entirely conditional and as Chun Hei mentioned, there should be more background to the relationship before it becomes an intimate one. Hooking up with a 16 year old for fun is unadvisable and can probably lead to legal issues.

Oh lulz, that sort of bullshít has been around since forever, and it's going to be a while before it stops. I personally have not encountered anyone say that (or actually say anything at all) yet. I have heard some say "you suck" or a variation thereof, but that usually doesn't come out until everyone has died. I encounted one guy who was trying to help by giving advise, which two out of the three of us actually used. Because one didn't take the advise, he ended up dieing and long-story short the mission failed. When it did fail, the advising guy outright said to the other guy (who did not respond) that he sucked and didn't understand teamwork which I agreed. However it should be noted that those who use "fa-gg-ot" or whatever don't necessarily have hatred toward gays, rather most lack any deference and are indifferent. That apathy is still not tolerable in my opinion, but most of it comes from teens and college boys who are just not mature enough to comprehend their own sexuality and those around them. Only option is to ignore it, or mute them.

I have a feeling those bigots are more common on Xbox. I use the PC, so perhaps the PC community is slightly more mature. Who knows. . .

***
Yeah, so back on topic sort of. Started another playthrough (which I plan to stop playing before the Cerberus HQ) with one of my femsheps. Thought I'd give it a whirl. I sort of miss not having the ability to romance Cortez, but consoling him still feels good and I can imagine femshep being a really good friend of his. Also, the slightly flirty dialogue with Vega is interesting and kind of nice. Odd they would do that though; he's such a tease. I prefer the manshep dialogue with him though, that way I can still imagine him being at least bi.

great fanfiction there Issac - I especially enjoyed the one that involved steve's console crashing...and the events that caused it :o

yeah it sucks, I haven't encountered anyone who has verbally singled me out and attacked me for my preferences IRL or online. Most peple just do it behind my back, or in one particular incident wrote things on my car in permanent marker  - however, I do not let it get me down.

As studies have shown: those who fire off the most virulently hateful rhetoric at the LGBT community often have a skeleton or two in their closet.

That's too bad Digital, I've has similar situations.  Stay strong and I agree, the ones who scream the most usually are in the closet.

But mostly what you said about how the characters react to you being mostly renegade or paragon. Maybe being able to to do something similar to how you influenced Joker to be with EDI on other characters.

you mean like playing intergalactic match maker? that could be fun but my idea behind the paragon renegade/relationship dynamic is to give characters a moral dimension. For instance if you want to romance Jack : you would have to be dominantly renegade to get her to show interest in you, for someone like Kaiden you would have to be dominantly paragon. For someone who isn't strictly a squad member like Cortez or Samantha there could be choices in conversation, and games..and other things;)  that you can do together on board the normandy that can strengthen the bond between your LI - and the stronger that bond becomes - or if it deteriorates can impact on the crews morale.

Oh yeah, I see where you're coming from. That's pretty interesting. I mean they have had dialogues that aren't available if you don't have enough Paragon or Renegade score. They could have used that for the romantic stuff. Countless things they could have put in the game really. Let's wait for one DLC first before we scream bloody murder for more! :pinched:

Indeed there are, with literally hundreds of ways Bioware could steer things - and there would be praise and criticisms regardless of which direction they take. It would be great if they expand the role of the LI in game, perhaps more opportunities for conversations, flirting and perhaps more opportunities for Shepard to have physically intimate encounters with them. and ohh I don't know...perhaps a decent ending, or perhaps they are saving that for mass effect 4?

Last time somebody tried something like that on me, I've screamed. I mean, I didn't hear anything, had my eyes closed and then somebody just opened the curtain.and surprized me.

A car (or in ME3 case, shuttle), now that's different, I would like to see that! M.

yeah, that scene with smantha is what I was thinking of... though I can't recall ever being in the shower with my undies on. And we don't have to see anything below the waist, we do have our imagination to fill in the rest. Though seeing Shepards ass while he is kissing Cortez in a steamy shower would be very nice.

I get the impression you aren't much of a morning person. My boyfriend and I had plenty of hot times in the shower... you can get clean, and dirty with your partner at the same time. It's a great way to start the day too.

Well, it's sunday, 9:30 here, and I've been up since 8. Had my coffee and shower and yogurt. You be the judge if I am or am not a morning person Image IPB. I don't mind showering with someone, but I don't like being scared. And not expecting somebody in the shower, only to have him open the curtain, scares me Image IPB. M.

Lol, very unlikely to see that especially since they didn't even do a scene similar to mShenko's.

But I will admit. . .

I'd love more LI interactions, like you said just banter and such.  However, I can hear the cries now if they tied some LIs to alignment at this stage.

+1 for a steamy shower scene with Steve & Shepard... and since I'm wishing, Shepard & Kaidan too.

+1 certainly, why not? and since Bioware is so into recycling animations the female shepard could get a shower scene with James.

I always wished there was more banter and flirting. Come on, even soldiers are allowed to have downtime and fool around a bit. And all the effort it takes to get to know your crew I just wish it all had more depth. And your choices and the things you say to your crew members had a greater impact  especially with the LI - I think the whole point of having a Li is to have someone for Shepard to be able to talk to and be intimate with. I recall there was an argument in ME2 between Miranda and Jack that is almost impossible to resolve, It was very satisfying to get to the point where I could tell them to"kiss and make up" so to speak. :D

Since guys can be topless with no need for censorship I do not see why it would even matter if the models did have underwear in the shower. The bra had straps but other than that it would have been very easy for Bioware to have strategic camera angles to make Samantha appear to be totally nude. Unless you want a butt shot. I have no problem there except it would reveal all the pinch marks Shepard keeps leaving (on his) behind...
