Nope, I'll be playing on Normal just like I always do. Nice and fun without me dying all the time. If I want more of a challenge then maybe I'll try whatever the difficulty above normal is.

Do we know if we can pick the difficulty level in the Demo?

It's the only way to play and it is most realistic concerning lore. Example: Every enemy you fight wearing combat armor should have shields. It's pretty much a standard feature. The only thing about Insanity that doesn't make sense is husks having armor.

I will definitely be playing on Insanity for my first playthrough... my first run in ME games is always with a soldier and rarely do I find myself overwhelmed, and when I do, I really enjoy it.

I don't always play on the hardest difficulty, but when I do, I make it mass effect.

This may be the geekiest thing I have ever posted on BSN but... anybody else getting that 300 vibe from this thread?

Priestly: No, it's too hard. You need to slow down! Get a feel for it.
BSN: Priestly what is your profession?
Priestly: Game designer, I thought that was obvious since I work for Bio-
BSN: Game designer. GAMERS! WHAT IS YOUR PROFESSION!?!?!
BSN: AOOO! AOOO! AOOO!

No? Just me? I'm about to have a kid so go easy on me.

Ahaha, this is brilliant.

+1 Internet for you.

Well, if most encounters will be as difficult as that Krogan Battlemaster fight on Therum in ME1, i bet you will lose that challenge. :) Bioware CAN make difficult games, if they want to. :D

That fight wasn't difficult.  That fight was cheap.

If you spammed the right CC's at the right time and made sure you had a durable squad then you were fine, but if you took a split second too long to knock the Battlemaster on his butt or missed a refresh on Sabotage and Damping you were screwed.

It was a poorly designed fight more than it was a difficult fight.

So basically you are saying taking a second too long would mean the Krogan would.. actually win? Isnt that the very definition of difficulty. Thats called smart play from his part. The most difficulty part of that fight was bringing followers to do whats necessary.. and showed clearly follower controls are not cool, when it comes to an actual challenge more threatening than a generic mob.

Thinking encounters are poorly designed just because an enemy manages to win(?!), is exactly the reason i absolutely think Insanity should be locked first, so forums wont be flooded with complains about "poor design" as an excuse for bad choices in the game.

Enemies dont even use their powers, so not to frustrate the player. The only ones i remember who try to, are the Asari Commando Units. Actually casting Singularity.

I am going to learn the new combat system while playing the demo, and engage an Insanity playthrough when ME3 comes out.

I tried ME2 out at first on veteran, I believe, then went to insanity, which I think was better for the value. I play the games exclusively on insanity now, but that's by being able to ignore 70% of the story's quick to slip details because I've played it before.
Not saying jumping right in on the hardest isn't saying something, but I'd rather enjoy a tour of the game before literally ignoring the story as some points to achieve some "best" ending.
Like Horizon, my first playthroughs of Horizon were epic, with my squad bantering back and forth, the occasional hidden treasure to find, while my insanity playthrough, before learning and succeeding, felt torturous and the sheer number of times I died...if it had been my first playthrough and a different game series, I'd have probably quit right then.
So I may try insanity to start, but will probably switch to another character's easier diffuculty if I run into problems.

Almost certainly not, if ME1 in particular, and 2 to a degree has taught me anything, it's that Insanity is nothing but a chore to me that the inner completionist demand me to do. And its demands were never satisfied for ME1, as I recall.

I wouldn't recommend it.

Combat has changed since ME2. The omni-blade, the cover mechanics, better enemy AI, etc. I'd recommend you try it at a lower setting initially to "get" the changes, then do an Insanity playthrough if you want to give it a shot.

I'll be doing hardcore first. Insanity is always my reward for beating the game.

I'll be playing Insanity. I just want to. I did ME2 on Insanity (admittedly not on my first go, on PC, but when I got the PS3 version I jumped straight into it). I did DA2 on Nightmare. ME3 will be played similarly.

Absolutely. ME2 Insanity was harsh at first but you learned how to manage it very quickly so I was very excited to hear that ME3 will be harder and I can't wait for the challenge. Also it just feels appropriate: you are fighting a galactic war against a race of mecha-cthulhu, how can be anything but extremely harsh and challenging?

Think I'll go Hardcore first actually. Leaving Insanity for second gives me some replayability.

I didn't play any of the other on Insane. The highest I went were HardCore on Mass Effect 1. I usually play normal. In Halo I can play the hardest, maybe I will give this a shot.

In Mass Effect 2 which class is the best to use to play Insanity? I usually play Adept, Vanguard. I do have a Soldier and Infil.

Definitely playing on insanity at first for SP. Although I will likely be pulling my hair out, it's faster than playing a normal/hard playthrough and then getting used to insanity later. Plus I think my religious Adept play and mastery of ME2 insanity mode should give me a leg up this time around.

As for MP i'm going to start on normal since its better to learn the ropes first.

I plan to try out the different difficulty settings with the demo. In ME2 my first playthrough was on veteran, I ramped it up to Hardcore and then insanity on later playthroughs. They've removed Veteran, but Normal difficulty is supposed to be roughly equivalent to ME2's veteran. It sounds like enemies will no longer all have defenses on the higher settings, but will instead be more aggressive and make better use of powers.

For me, it comes down to this: my perfect difficulty setting is one where I am challenged and forced to make clever use of powers, but where I don't have to frequently pause the game and use the radial wheel (I'm playing on x-box and I have a kinect).

I'm not sure, I might do it but I don't really have the confidence to do it to be frank. But I might as well try since I can always change my difficulty setting and try again in my next playthrough.

I skipped from normal to insanity in ME2 and it was a **** so I'd take chris's advice. I hear the enemies are a lot smarter than ME2 and don't just do more damage and take more on insanity. They will try to flank and get you out of your cover much more. Think they tweeted that

'cause I am :)

I want the last game in Shepard's story to be a full experience of ME3. With all the negative "reaper"cussions that come with it.

I'll do what I did in ME2.

First Veteran, then Hardcore and then Insanity.

This.

I might change my mind depending on the demo.
