for Mass Effect 2 I did Renegade Hardcore first and then Paragon Insanity second

for some reason my Hardcore playthrough was harder than Insanity

Definitel; the only thing that prevented me from platinum'ing ME2 was the fact that I didn't play on insanity :(

I'll do first playthrough on Hardcore difficulty. Second & all after that are reserved for Insanity settings.

I did insanity first in ME2 and the changes from ME1 and ME2 were quite drastic(namely, no more immunity) so I'm sure I can manage it in ME3.

Insanity on first playthrough should be locked like it's in GoW series because you know it's insane so it would be natural finishing game first on Hardcore or lower settings & then playing in on Insane.

That's how Cliff does it, that's how Casey should do it.

I wouldn't recommend it.

Combat has changed since ME2. The omni-blade, the cover mechanics, better enemy AI, etc. I'd recommend you try it at a lower setting initially to "get" the changes, then do an Insanity playthrough if you want to give it a shot.

thats good idea, but im a masochist Posted Image
so im toally going to play it on insanity right away besides.itll force you to learn the game quick if you want to advance

....

oh and since me2 insanity was actually pretty easy specially after horizion.im sure me3 well be about the same.but if its like me1 insanity then right on.itll actually be a challenge at first

If I use my infiltrator Shepard on my first playthrough then yes. If I decide to use one of my vanguards then no. My vanguard Shepard's seem to be a lot more squishier

If dev promises of Insanity enemies not being statistically better than normal, but instead being smarter and more aggressive with the numbers advantage, sure.
The demo will be the tell of that, however.

Don't think you need 40+ hours to "get" the changes.

It really doesn't matter how hard it is. If it is unlocked from start, Insanity is the only way to go!

lol you guys are hilarious.

But of course I'll go normal first. Gotta learn the all the new gameplay stuff although I'll play the demo non stop 'til launch. I don't wanna ruin my story enjoyment from any possible frustration on difficulty.

Later I'll have my enjoyment on gameplay and challenge alone. It also shall be delicious.

Hell yeah. Besides the demo will teach people everything there is to know anyway.

There should be a difficulty level above insanity called "realistic" where the enemies powers have the same effect as the squad powers.

Mister Shepard, a man as alluringly deadly as you deserves the finest in adversaries. The next time you're out in the field with Miss Zorah... play on Insanity. Intensity, valor, skill. It's not just a difficulty setting, it's an expression of your masculinity. Insanity.

So Awesome.

Fellow gamer, I salute you. Posted Image

In ME2, I did Normal once for the story and Insanity all the way after. I think this time I will go Vanguard Insanity! (no point rushing, since Shepard's story will end...)

I am sure I will die a few hundred times every couple hours but hey! "High Risk, High Reward!" ^_~

Heavy risk, but the prize!!! :P

Of course we will die lots of times... Sometimes when there is only 1 enemy left on a very stressful fight, or the enemy is extremely close to death... But, it's the last game. As you said, no point in rushing. Make the game really feel like an all out galactic war, that will drain every single drop of your enthusiasm... That is role-playing... We'll surely feel like Shepard... We will feel that maybe the war cant be won... We will feel tired, frutrated sometimes... But WE, WE ARE SPART GAMERS! FOR IN 3/6/12 WE DINE IN HELL!!!!

hmm.. unless they go EA on us and remove SAVE games and make it "checkpoints" like EA did with one great game like Crysis turned into a linear corridor with no experimenting/taking risks in the sequel, Crysis 2. Then whe will indeed dine in hell while EA people will just burn in it!

Insanity Vanguard. No question.

It's what I did for Mass Effect 2 and it was a gruelling hellscape. There was no bonus XP from completing the game, no game guides or DLC power weapons to hold your hand and it was hard as hell at times. But on my tenth attempt on the human reaper I finally finished that bastard with a desperate cain shot to the face and the feeling of satisfaction was incredible.

The higher the combat difficulty, for me, the higher the emotional pay off for the story is. It seems less realistic for Shepard to be able to dispose of assignments with ease, he's up against the odds and you need to make it by the skin of your teeth every now and then to reinforce the danger. Every moment of story progression should feel hard earned. Playing on insanity makes the legend of my Shepard that much more incredible, after all, no one said saving the galaxy was going to be easy.

There's a ME3 contest to win the game here. You post your best strategy guide for either Mass Effect 2 or the first Mass Effect. If you're playing through it already, you might as well enter.

Insanity is only masochism in ME1. And that's because it takes some 15 minutes to kill each enemy, because of their DA2's HighDragon Life Bar (which takes some 30 minutes on Nightmare diff) It is boring more than anything else. It is not even risky for the character.. just plain boring.

ME2's Insanity is far from masochism. It makes us better players. It gives great sense of accomplishment when we beat it and even with a few necessary reloads, it is a helluva fun time!

I played Tali's recruitment mission in Haestrom for a long time and not because of reloading. But for the fun on taking all those infinite spawn Geths, on the left, on the middle and on the right. And retreat back after each of those, only deciding which path to take to finish the Colossus after that. There's no xp gain from kills so it was just for the fun of it indeed.

And Tela Vasir, if not on Insanity, shouldn't even be considered a Spectre! The Shadow Broker would be just a large wuss. Insanity make them tough and yet not that hard to beat, once we learn from our mistakes. The Suicide Mission wouldn't be anywhere near Epic if not on Insanity and it is still easy. Well, everything on ME2 seems easier after a few Insanity runs.

ME3, do your best because you're going to be easy soon enough in Insanity!
