I like Traynor except for how
quickly they cut to the chase. First non-mission related interaction
with her and 10 seconds in she is headed for the shower. It's kind of
like a bad porno. You don't romance her, you just get busy, which is
fine I guess but I would've liked more substance.
Well, there is a somewhat stereotyping joke about this behaviour.
My headcannon has the chess match first and then a more typical date later
on in the citadel which ends with the shower scene. I'm very happy with Sam's romance this way.

Is she a full romance, or a one time thing? Does Kaiden get mad if you mess around with her?
Don't know if I'd call it a full romance. I'd like to see it fleshed out more with actual conversations, but there are a fair number of ambient conversations that you trigger by talking to her.
She shows up in your room a second time just before the point of no return. You can also get the paramour achievement from her.

Kaidan: I think she will love it Commander.
Shepard: Really? so you think I should just pop the question before we all might die taking our home back?
Kaidan: Yeah. i mean, you spend a lot of time up in your room with her and...
Samantha: And what?
*Kaidan pushes Shepard, telling her to "do it"*
Shepard: Uh, Sammy i-i want to ask you something.
Samantha: What is it?
Shepard (on one knee): I know there might not be any official ceremony, but, (revealing the diamond ring) will you marry me?
*Samantha is speechless for a second*
Kaidan: Say something.
Samantha: Yes, Shepard, i will marry you.
*Shepard gets up and kiss her fiance*
Samantha: now, i just need to do a few things right now dear.
*Samantha leaves*
Kaidan: you see ma'am, nothing to worry about.
Shepard: yeah well, i might not have done it if it were not for you giving me that confidence boost.
Samantha (over the intercom) Commander, i think the two of us should have drinks in you quarters, y'know, to celebrate.
Shepard: gotta go, having drinks with my future wife.

She was cool, I really liked how she hardened up as the war progressed.

I haven't done my FemShep playthrough yet, but does Sam get any LI-conversations before the final mission? Or anything after the shower scene?
Seems like Cortez gets more facetime than Sam.

I haven't done my Samantha Playthrough yet. However according to the info yes. She has two scenes in your Cabin. First is the Shower Scene and the other one is right before the point of no Return.

i think that Samantha is not the type of girl to wait for whoever she is interested in. the shower i believe, is her way of saying "Shepard, i like you a lot, but if you are not interested in a relationship with me, i'm not gonna wait for you to want me"

guess i should have put that in there, but she may want a relationship, but would think that marriage would cause more problems then she wants.

I almost always play as male Shep, and Traynor started to grow on me, then I found out she's a LESBIAN.
If I ever import my fem Shep, I'm hooking up with her and not Kaidan or whoever.

Lucky for you it's been confirmed that the Normandy is now equipped with highly-advanced, automatic fish-feeder. Mass Effect fields may or may not be involved with such high-end tech.Doctalen wrote...
But will she feed my fish without sex?
however, mass effect fields are in fact involved with her 6,000 credit toothbrush

I play a FemShep and I romanced Liara in ME1 and Jacob in ME2, and pretty sure I slept with Chambers in 2 before actually committing to Jacob (might be remembering wrong here)... As soon as Liara was recruited in ME3 I started taking the steps to romance her again (talking to her every chance, I even told her I needed to save Earth because of her, and more than friends or something like that).
At some point in the story (before meeting up with Jacob again) I got a message from Traynor and one from Allers to meet in my cabin.
When I went to my cabin I had the options to romance Traynor, which I did. (popped chivo, and watched shower scene). Then after she left Allers comes in for an interview, I wasn't able to romance her at this point.
Finally, a few missions later (after attack on Citadel) I try talking to Liara in her room on the Normandy and she says "Shepard I heard about you and Traynor, I don't have time to play games, lets be honest we are probably too busy to be in a relationship anyway." Or something to those themes. Her normal dialog screen, where the view actually changes also changed to the dialog where you click they talk and you keep clicking them until they start repeating...
I'm depressed because I romanced her in ME1 and figured I could end the Mass Effect storyline with her as my lady. But it took Liara so long to tell me we were over, that it was too late to reload before I slept with Traynor.

Shepard: Hey Traynor, coming up for chess later?
Samantha: Of course, regular chess, or the kind with some fun twists?
Shepard: Regular for tonight, don't want to make you blush, again.
Samantha: Too late for that.
Shepard: We can play regular chess, the real fun comes after.
*Samantha giggles while she blushes, grinning from ear to ear as Shepard leaves*

The choice for her VA had me excited about the character for weeks prior to the game's release and Alix Wilton Reagan really delivered.
I think it is rather cute how as lab technician Sam is trying to deal with front line service and life aboard a military vessel and mastering the challenges it presents her with.
She is focused on her work and isn't shy about getting involved and speaking up, when she's got something to contribute. It's great that she gets to make crucial contributions to the war effort.
She is passionate and compassionate and trying her best at becoming a part of the crew both professional and personal.
I like her playful nature, which expresses itself in the way she generally speaks, her interest in chess and the ease and sublety with which she flirts.
In all of that she appears very grounded and well-adjusted and she is self assured and knows what she wants.
It is a pity however, that we get to talk to her so little about herself and mostly just about professional stuff, which makes sense in a way, with a terrible war going on and all, but the romance with her lacks a bit of real development because of it. One or two cinematic convos more, that gives her and Shepard the chance to grow close
emotionally would have been nice, because the whole shower offer comes a little bit out of the blue.
Also the chance to run into her on the citadel like every other LI, Allers aside, would have been much appreciated or at least in a different part of the Normandy like one of the observation decks.
The basic idea of the game night is great, though hugely flawed in its execution. As I already mentioned, the development to that scene is pretty much non-existent. There are a few hints about her attraction to women in general, but not in terms of a personal attraction to Shepard and vice versa.
In the same light a few more lines of more substantial flirting would have been needed to make the shower offer not seem so, errm, reminiscent of porn.
What I like about the shower scene is that it uses Sam's struggle with her rather intense needs for personal hygiene, established early with the tootbrush convo, in light of the limited facilities in that regard aboard the ship and her open and assertive personality to create an oppotunity for them to get together
This idea behind the scene is great. Two mature women establishing their mutual attraction through a bit of flirting and simply going for what they want. I love Sam's line "I needed that!"
However the actual presentation is lacking, especially visually and as said earlier in the number of words spoken.
It also would have been nice for people, who don't want to go that fast to have the opportunity to get sweaty playing chess first and then have the shower
What I really love and what eventually made me look past the flaws mentioned earlier and really enjoy the romance is the scene before going after TIM. It is beautifully written and just made me melt away and the performance by both Hale and Reagan is just awesome and really something for their demo reel.
I have seen people say, that it is unfair, that we don't get to talk to her over the communicator prior to the final assault, but we already have the "goodbye talk" aboard the Normandy and I am fine with that. It's a really nice convo and rounds out the whole romance very nicely, the bleak ending aside.
All in all I am very thankful for that romance, although, as I have pointed out a few things could have been done better.
