wait a minute, if the repaers devestated earth, and the endings are real, with the exception of the normandy's fate, how would they (Samantha and Shepard) use their ova to make a child with their DNA?

She is really great as a character. I wish they could have put more of her in the game...

You've excepted the one thing that would be required - the Normandy. There's a pretty advanced lab on the Normandy, remember that Mordin was using it to finish up the Genophage cure... And the Genophage was a disease of the reproductive system of female Krogan. There are probably enough tools and whatever else needed to do the job.

The only problem is, if the endings are real, there's a very very good chance Shepard is dead. (You have to have had an exceptional game for her to survive, and who knows what that intake of breath means exactly?)

You know, something that just occured to me, there's probably a good chance Shepard is sterile anyway. Being spaced, falling into an atmosphere, falling from orbit to the ground, being cryogenically frozen then thawed (or however they preserved the corpse), and then being put back together complete with cybernetics, and somehow being given life again... the chances are, even with over 4 billion credits spent on the project, there's going to be issues. The fall out (excuse the pun) from radiation exposure being one of them. I doubt Shepard's reproductive organs were high on their list to be restored to pristine functioning - just as long as they produce the right amount of hormones - viable eggs (or sperm in the case of male Shep) are just not that important.

These are all good points.  Poor Shep and her baby-making organs :(

I'm sure Traynor's good to go.  Shep seems more like a top to me anyway.  Traynor can be a bit of a softie before she sends out her attack dog girlfriend to shoot a Reaper in the face.

Sad as it seems, I can imagine Chakwas laying down the law on medical supplies. Something along the lines of not using half the Normandy's irreplaceable supplies to mash 2 female gametes into a viable zygote. Donor sperm or nothing.

Now if BioWare would give us a proper ending, then femshep/traynor could have all the kids they wanted, but noooooooo.

In the ME universe, there is probably technology that could extract genetic information out of other cells (like stem cells) for procreative purposes. Again, the lab on the Normandy is probably advanced enough for it, provided it's intact (which I think it would be), given Mordin's last area of research.

There is also the possibility that Sam and Shepard could/would adopt a child. There are probably a lot of oprhans left behind by the war with the Reapers. I could see some Shepards wanting to adopt a whole plethora of kids. In fact, in a post Reaper War universe, insisting only on biological children could be seen as a pretty selfish act.

I also had a way out there idea regarding children... My primary Shepard is a Liaramancer, so this kind of comes from my love of her (and Asari in general). Do you think it might be possible for an Asari to have a child with multiple "fathers"? So Liara or some other (familiar) Asari (not Samara, though) could possibly get pregnant in a threesome with Sam and Shepard, and the child would be a product of all three of them. (Sorry, my mind sometimes works in strange ways, and I'm not opposed to the idea of polyamory/polygamy.)

Though, despite that wacky thought of mine, it kind of annoys me that both Samantha and Bioware just assume that Shepard would be into having kids. What do you think Samantha's reaction would be to a Shepard who didn't want kids? Is her heart completely set on the idea of having kids, would Shep not wanting them be a deal breaker for her?

Given how advanced scientifically the universe seems to be, smashing two gemetes together probably wouldn't take half the medical supplies on the Normandy. In fact, it would probably be a simple proceedure.

that can all be answered in head canon. plus i will probably head canon that the entire series is nothing but a dream for a simple soldier in the Systems Alliance Navy N7 program.

You know their are lot of angry orphans because of this war... they could well adopt a few...maybe.
Instead of you know pulling what a Henry Lawson did with Miranda and Oriana.

Children won't actually be a problem since you can create sperm cells from bone marrow, though not viable on humans today, it'll probably be in the future. In a perfected and more advanced way of course.

In that way Shepard and Samanthat can have biological children.:wizard:

Though all the children would be female, since they would lack a Y chromosome.B)

It'd be nice of them to adopt, but I would think that they would also want a child of their own, if possible.  Anyone calling Shepard selfish should look around for Reapers.  Saving the galaxy has its privileges.

I don't think that Liara could be impregnated by two "fathers" at once.  If she was, I'd imagine that the offspring would be quite a mess.

I didn't have a problem with Sam wanting a happy future.  It makes sense that she would want something to look forward to in such dark times.  Is there an option for Shepard to say no?  I've never even thought about saying no.

It's not Y chromosome itself that's determinant factor of sex development.
Theoretically it's possible that either Shepard or Traynor could be XY females (for example in cases of Androgen Insensitivity, Swyer Syndrome and others).

I'm good with that.  I'd go with the adoption route - plenty of orphans on Earth, Mindoir (my Shepard's birthplace), or Horizon (Sam's birthplace).  But hey.  What could be better than bringing a life into a new era of the galaxy?

Sam Traynor is totally adorbs, and I love her pre-TIM-base conversation.

"Yeah, maybe a little."

1) I said "could be seen as". Whether it is or not is entirely subjective. :)

2) No, it wouldn't be messed up. With parthenogenesis all the genetic material in an Asari's daughter comes solely frrom the mother. Exactly what contribution the "father" (or in my wacky theory, fathers) makes is up for debate. (I think it's been implied somewhere that the merging of nervous systems results in some randomization in the genes of the child, which is why Asari children are not just clones of their mothers.)

3) Subjective again. I don't see having children as a necessary component of a happy ending. Some Shepards, including mine, might agree with me (or would, if Bioware hadn't railroaded them into wanting them with BOTH Sam and Liara).

I'm 40 years old, childfree, and have never ever regretted it. (And I knew I wanted to be childfree since... oh when I was 13. I distinctly remember telling my grandma that I never wanted kids, and she patted me on the head and said, in that condecending way old ladies sometimes have, "oh never mind, love, you'll change your mind.") So my "happily ever after" has never involved kids. ^_^

^ i think Gabriella Daniels, if you don't romance Samantha and do not get Gabby and Ken together.

or Diana Allers if you do not romance either of them.

You can get Gabby and Ken together? Really? I didn't know that! :) Might have to try it when I eventually get around to a second playthrough.

I am not a big fan of Diana Allers (I have nothing against her, but I have nothing "for" her either)... I got the impression the whole fling deal was of the no strings variety, on the same kind of level as Kelly in ME2. (And from what I can find on YouTube, I'm not wrong)... So, I don't think so. I actually think Sam is after a long term deal ("I play for keeps"). Which actually means I think her romance with Shepard is a bit out of character for her anyway. There's no way, in the current situation, that anyone (Shepard, Gabriella, Liara, Diana, or any other potential female LI for Sam) can commit to anything of a genuinely long term nature... And therefore maybe she wouldn't.

However, one of the things Diana brings up with Shepard is that she can't risk her reputation if her dalliance with her source gets out. So, perhaps she'd be more open to a longer term relationship with someone other than Shepard. But I just can't see the two of them together - it could just be my general feeling of meh-ness when it comes to Diana, though, which means I'm a bit biased.

I do think Sam and Liara have enough in common to make them a good match. They'd work well together on a professional level too. I wish we'd seen more of them interacting... Intelligent women conversing about subjects other than romance or men is very attractive.  This would be my personal choice, provided both women were single.

I don't have an opinion one way or another about Gabby. (Actually, see my last point about other potential LIs. We don't have much evidence about her sexuality.)

Kelly might be someone Sam might also get along well with, but I can only really see friendship between them. I think Kelly might be a touch too flighty, less likely to want to settle down. (But I never saw the upshot of her romance in ME3, so perhaps I'm mistaken.)

The only other potentials (if we go by current in-game canon), well. They're all pretty straight. (Ashley, Tali, Miranda, Jack.)

^Apparently you can get Ken and Gabby together only if Ashley is alive and on friendly terms with Shepard (it's a bug being discussed in the Ken & Gabby thread). If you have Kaidan, the bug doesn't initiate any of the ambient banter in the engine room, and thus no matchmaking for our engineers.

As for Allers....no. Just....no (not for me, anyway). I like the idea of Sam and Gabby though. Two geeky and lovable female crewmembers on the Normandy? Make it happen.

For some reason, I feel like Gianna Parasini (wherever she is right now) seems like the type to be in a committed relationship.  Perhaps a good fit for Sam.

When you create sperm cells from a females bonemarrow the child won't be male. Though this is only theoretical, maybe i should have written that.;)

I also think that Gabby and Sam would be a good fit.  I like them both a lot and I think they'd get along.

I'm not a fan of Diana Allers.  I also can't ever get her to talk to me, so I don't know how a romance with her would even be pursued.  I'd rather romance Sam anyway.
