Parminder Nagra would be a good choice for Traynor =)

And I like the idea of her being indian, she clicked great with my indian engineer FemShep. Can imagine them sitting late in the evening discussing tech and various programs. Really geeking it out.

I know, a really cute pic. Looking forward to seeing more art with her with DA later on. Or I hope there will be some artists out there who will do art with her, I can't draw stickfigures.

Good thing you commented on the pic, I messed up the link but now it's correct.

From my understanding, the gene is there, but it will become increasingly rare as time progresses.  The more and more people with dominant traits reproduce with those with recessive traits, the further buried the gene will become.  In all actuality, genetics are almost a purely mathematical situation.  Someone could have a 1 out of 1,000,000,000,000 chance of having red hair and still get it.

I believe I read a paper or article about a scientist who claims that it will be "mathematically" extinct in the future.  Blue eyes were also mentioned, but I've seen articles that say blue eyes aren't as recessive as we all once believed. I'm also no expert on the matter, so everything I just said could be complete bollocks.

It may well become rarer and rarer over time (not really likely to be a fast process, since there are no really compelling reasons for it to fail to be carried - ie, it isn't an evolutionary disadvantage). But "extinct in our time"? Nope.

And even if it were "scheduled" to naturally vanish in the next millennia if left to its own devices, we would have well and truly developed the techniques and technology to preserve the gene before that would happen. In the future, people won't dye their hair, they'll have gene therapy. People will decide they want their son or daughter to have red hair, and will design their baby that way.

Red hair, like blonde hair, is with us for the long haul.

We already have the technology to "create our own children" to a certain extent.  I know that the ability to choose the child's sex exists.  I'm not sure about features such as eye colour, hair colour, and the other stuff.  Personally, I find that stuff sick.  I'd rather let the child develop naturally and love my son/daughter the way that he/she is.  Some people are crazy.

Indeed. I wish there was more art/fan fiction involving her.

Actually, right now we really only have the ability to see what gender a child will be and if they'll have any genetic defects before birth. The only options we have with regard to "choosing" attributes is to abort those that don't comply. In the future, it might be possible to CORRECT genetic defects before birth (and as a consequence of the technology also be able to choose other genetic traits as well). There are a whole lot of advantages in correcting genetic defects that I won't go into in this thread (but in short: less of a drain on society to care for them, less abortions, and arguably more quality of life*).

The treatment of genetic diseases/defects is a good thing. I'm not 100% sold on the vanity aspects of gene therapy/genetic manipulation, however. Still, I wouldn't describe either as "sick".

* I am short sighted, and genetically predisposed towards obesity and certain types of cancer. I'd give just about anything to have those three traits fixed, and wouldn't have thanked my mother if she chose not to correct them before my birth if it had been possible.

Furthermore, hair color is something you can change quite easily. Even it there was a hair color preference in the future, there would be no reason why a biological evolutionary response need occur.

here is more Dialogue based on head canon for my fem!Shepard, Katelynn:

*Shepard is standing near the desk by her bed, staring at an old picture of her and her late wife, Emily when Samantha walks in and sees the picture*

Samantha: so ma'am, who is the Blonde in there?
Shepard: that is my...late wife, Emily
Samantha: i did not know you were married
Shepard: it was a long time ago, then Liara gives me this?
Samantha: she probably just wanted to help you
Shepard: by what, reminding me of the absolute worst day of my life?!
Samantha: ...
Shepard: Emily died on Akuze, protecting me from a thresher maw
Samantha: oh, i see. Shepard, do you really think Emily would want you to mope around, or do you think she would want you to be happy and move on?
Shepard: i don't know
Samantha: will this help? *Samantha kisses Shepard passionately*
Shepard: maybe it is time to bury the past for good
Samantha: want me to go with you?
Shepard: yeah, i would like that.
*Shepard, with the old picture in tow, left for the Citadel, Samantha walking beside her, holding hands and fingers intwined*

note that this is just my head canon and it does not need to be a dead wife.

also the end of headcanon dialogue for Katelynn/Sammie:

*Shepard and Samantha are at dinner when Sam notices Shepard Staring at her*
Samantha: what?
Shepard: oh, nothing. just thinking of how beautiful you would look in a wedding dress.
Samantha: R-really? ME, in a wedding dress, what do y-
Shepard: *on one knee* Samantha, will you marry me?
Samantha: Yes, Shepard, a million times yes, i will marry you! *clears, throat* y'know after this war is over and we both live still.
Shepard: Oh, Sammie. *kisses her new fiance passionately* now lets go get some engagement rings.
Samantha: Let's, my wonderful future wife. *leave to look for engagement rings*

question, who WOULD wear the dress at the wedding: Samantha or Shepard

i said Samantha because in my head Shepard is an officer so she would need to look professional, thus wear dress blues as her "tux"

CALLENGE: all artists i would like to See Samantha in a wedding dress

It's Corvidae cookies to the rescue again, she has some wonderful stuff with Sam   =)

Also had no idea that there were people who where irritated at the fact that the FemShep/Traynor romance starts with the shower. Hmm... that was actually one thing that I liked, that it was so playfull and fast, just a happy feeling. Somehow it suited my Robin perfectly. Pretty much thought that she would end up single forever after being dumped by Jacob. She didn't click with Liara, and Kaidan was just to serious for her. Sam's just joyful attitude won her over when she really didn't think that she would ever find someone again. And it ended up being just... perfect  =)

edit:  quoted post below by JamieCOTC really nails Sam's romance for me    =)

JamieCOTC wrote...

* snip *

I think the thing I liked best about the Samantha romance is how confident femshep is during the mission to the point of joking around w/her and even giving morale support. Then during cabin scene femshep can display vulnerability, the most in any of the romances. As for Samantha herself I like how she grows as a person, but retains a certain normalcy. She's not a soldier, (even if she can analyze the crap out of data), but a very real person. She's someone to come home to.
