   Yuka Shepard spent most of her young life in space, her mother being a decorated Alliance officer.  Shepard herself started off a promising military career.  She's biotically talented - and a total tech geek - making her a Sentintel a natural choice.

   However her life changed when, as a young lieutenant, she lost her entire squad on Akuze.  She lost her first command, her squadmates - people who were her closest friends. When the extraction team finally reached Shepard she was barely holding onto life, yet she was gripping onto the battered lifeless body of a teammate.  Scuttlebutt says Shepard was intimately close to that squadmate - military psychiatrists concluded the obvious: Shepard struggled with an extreme case of survivor's guilt as well as trust issues.  Since then, she's kept everyone - friends, subordinates, even her mother - at a distance.

    With her traumatic experience, Shepard is aligned with chaotic good, and remains renegade to the core.   A few individuals managed to get through to her, with varying degrees of success.  Garrus and Kasumi in particular understood her, as they both lost a squad and a lover, respectively.  Liara initially provided some relief, as did Thane - but his sacrifice at the Citadel and death at the hands of Kai Leng returned Shepard to that dark abyss.  Her walls went up again, and were stronger than ever.  

   As cliched as it might sound, Traynor is perhaps the one bright spot for Shepard since the Reapers hit Earth.  Her cheerful personality, her playfulness, her shyness, her geekiness, her innocence...it gave Shepard something personal to fight for.  The scars of the past will remain, but perhaps Sam is the healing that Shepard has always craved.  As Sam solemnly noted, she never thought she'd see the woman beneath the armor.  

Shepard, for her part, never thought she'd let anyone in.   Until now.

i wonder Do they have gay/lesbian bars in ME universe? just got a weird thought of Samantha dressed as Renee Montoya from DC comics at a lesbian bar drinking and hitting on every girl that walks by...

^^ am not familiar with the character you mentioned. She might hit on every girl,but I don't see sam doing that. In the ME universe anything is possible.

Mike, Renee Montoya is a cop, she is also a lesbian, and dated the modern age Batwoman for a while. She then took on the role of the Question when the old one died. she was first introduced in the animated show then adopted into the comics.

Mike, no worries, i just saw your post and though i should explain. mainly wanted to know if they had gay/lesbian bars in ME universe, though i can't really say i can imagine Sam in such a place.

I don't think anyone in the ME universe gives two sh!ts about whether someone is gay or straight or into tentacles.

Also, if you're after some lesbian porn for the mind, there are fan sites out there you'd like. Try to keep it out of this thread, however.

I second this motion.  I know that I won't be able to play it for a while since my most recent Shepard isn't that close to the ending yet and I don't want to just jump into the ending.

I'd agree that the majority of people wouldn't care, but I don't think Mass Effect is up to the Star Trek level of acceptance. Remember the soldier who's trying to get her daughter sent to her wife's family on Thessia? She says her parents disowned her for marrying an asari (probably more xenophobic that homophobic though).

I think there would be gay bars in the ME universe. Its somewhere to meet other gay people and to avoid unwanted attention from the opposite sex, that would still be appealing even if people aren't homophobic in the ME universe.

Going keep this Vague and Spoiler Free as much as Possible for those who haven't played the EC yet.

Just Finished a Playthrough of the EC with a Romanced Liara, For some reason Samantha is no where to be seen in the Final Scene. Everyone else is their Including Steve, But Samantha is not. It's seems Liara and Samantha are suppose to switch Places. Samantha Character model did not Render or something.

Anyone else run into any Situation like this?

That’s odd, Liara was in mine with Samantha, but i had a glitch with Garus in one sequence.
