I need a dialogue for this lovely picture..
GO!
Commander Valerie Shepard sat alone at the bar of the port observation deck in the Normandy. A nearly untouched drink sat in front of her as she was leaned over the bar with her head in her hands. She was still coping with a lot of stress, anger, and shame at the thought of her last mission and couldn't even bring herself to drink more of the liquid courage that was placed before her.
She knew that she wasn't perfect, but the pain of failure was far from common. Missions came and went, but her debriefing almost always included the phrase "mission accomplished" in it. Not this time.
She'd been slow, sloppy, and imprecise down on the Asari homeworld. She fought her way through the Reaper invasion, but wasn't able to get to the objective quick enough. Cerberus had beaten her... again. More importantly, Cerberus beat her to a very important objective: something that was pivotal to winning the war against the Reapers. Letting that information fall into a terrorist organisation's hands was probably the greatest failure of her career, of her life even, and the shame and remorse was almost too much to bear.
The commander ran the fingers of her right hand through her dark red hair that was still tied back and used her left hand to wipe the tear that was rolling down her cheek. She clenched her teeth, grabbed the drink in front of her, and threw it back all at once. As she wiped a little excess alcohol from the edges of her lips, the door to her right opened with a soft whir.
Samantha Traynor walked in almost cautiously and took only a few steps before stopping in her tracks. She saw the empty glass in Valerie's hand and a sad expression came over her face.
"How many is that now?" the comm specialist asked softly not meaning to accuse or raise any tension.
"One," answered the commander quietly as she turned back to the bar.
"You've been in here for three hours, Val. You can't expect me to believe -" Samantha started.
"I said 'one.' Why would I lie?" Commander Shepard blurted angrily at the notion that she had lied. "I don't deserve a drink? I can't just sit here and collect my thoughts?"
"I - I didn't mean to upset you," said Traynor timidly looking down at her boots to avoid provoking her girlfriend more.
"Then what'd you come in here for?" Shepard asked turning back towards the nearly frightened woman by the door.
"I just wanted to see if I could help; to give you someone to talk to," responded Traynor still looking at the floor.
Valerie's facial expression softened at the kind words as she realised what she had just said. She stood up from the bar stool and approached Samantha. When she was an arm's length away she reached out and pulled Samantha into a tight embrace.
"I'm sorry," Valerie whispered.
"It's okay. It can't be easy dealing with what happened. James told me all about it," Samantha replied leaning her head on Shepard's shoulder.
"Things didn't really go as planned," said the commander sadly.
"You'll be alright. You'll find a way to fix it. I know you will," reassured Samantha.
"I certainly hope so. For everyone's sake, I hope so," Shepard said softly as another tear rolled down the other cheek. "But I just need to be alone right now. I need to think, to plan."
Valerie pulled away from the hug, kissed Samantha on the forehead, and began to walk towards the door. Before she was more than a few steps away, she felt a hand grab her forearm and pull her to a stop.
"Are you sure?" asked Samantha kindly. "You're still human, Valerie. Sometimes it helps to talk."
Shepard stood still for a moment before responding. She stared at the door and thought about what her girlfriend had just said. The commander then turned around, pulled Samantha's hand from her arm, and pressed the hand against her lips.
"I'm sure, Sam," she said without looking up into Sam's now tearing eyes.
Without another word, Valerie turned and exited the room.
