I had the privilage of seeing the game preseented live in Montreal. the game is looking amazing. 2 guys from BioWare preseented it to the public so I took the opportunity to cap it :).

Was it an invite only event? I live in the area and would have loved to go

Nah it costs like $5. You just have to know about it I guess. The next event is the end of February not sure what games they are showing off then. It's for the IGDA...
http://www.igda.org/montreal that's the website if you're wanting to go to future events. They have a membership that you can get that gets you into the events without having to pay the $5 at the door. They often show lots of indie games I guess. Definitely a fun event. I would recommend checking it out sometime. There were about 400 people at the event.

Thanks for the link. Didn't know they had screenings of big video games in Montreal

@Pepper4 and anyone unsure on the weapon bench: The GUI they showed there when they picked up the new pistol was the Weapon Locker GUI. That's for selecting your weapons, not for modding them.

The Weapon Bench is used for modding weapons and isn't presented when you pick stuff up. Maybe they present it when you pick up a mod in the environment in the same manner? Not sure but they've showed weapon benches in combat areas as well as saying there is of course one on the Normandy.

So yeah 2 separate things, Weapon Lockers like ME2, and Weapon Benches allowing weapon modification, similar to ME1 though more visual changes and seems a bit better thought out.

ME2 was full bar healing after a few seconds. Now healing is only partial, so things will be more difficult unless enemy damage is significantly reduced.

Haven´t played Resistance, I mentioned WfC because it´s the only game with that heakth system I´ve played.

Ah I see makes sense. I think it will add more of a challenge. It's been awhile since i've dug into ME2 so gonna do that very soon :).

I'm not really sure about that. I just know they have big sponsors. I could contact the guy that runs it (he's my professor). The event is pretty awesome. It's just an opportunity for developers to see what each other is doing. I think they hold events monthly not really sure. This is the first event that I've been to. I'm just studying here for the semester.

This video was so sexy. I love the different icons for the power upgrades branching out to show the type of upgrade you're picking. It looks gorgeous.

And seriously, the music. Just... :o

Also, that Garrus "I don't care for him" line was kinda random, wasn't it? :P

Thank you so much Xxplosions!

The health system seems the one from Transformers War for Cybertron. Partial segments of the bar heal on their own, but for the already empty ones you need medigel. I wonder if a dose heals all the bar or just a segment, but I guess the latter would increase difficulty a lot.

Transformers? I'm pretty sure Resistance did that first (2006) and i'm also sure somebody else will point out to me who Insomniac ripped off before them. Either way I think it much more likely that they took inspiration from R:FOM rather than some hasbro-tie-in.

Didn't they use a similar health system in ME2? They just modified it a bit.

That's okay. I just like to see credit where it's due. Insomniac are the most underrated studio in the industry with their record. The Resistance series just somehow doesn't get the respect from gamers it deserves... critics love it but the general public somehow year after year manage to overlook a series with a metacritic average above 87. It's insane.

Killzone however really does suck and I guess people just lump them together and it never gets a shot. Sony don't ever bother marketing it.

You're definitely spot on with that. Every game learns from other games and want to try and implement systems like those. You can't lose out where the ideas originally came from because they were the ones that came up with the genious idea nad other studios just build upon it and incorporate differently.

Is it sad that I'm pumped for ME1 style "Interact" bubbles returning?

Aside from that, I'm blown away by how much they've improved the UI. I am really starting to wonder if all classes will be allowed to use whatever number of weapons they want. Soldier seems to get the most weight capacity, so it's not like it isn't balanced.

That said, my Inflitrator is definitely rocking the Mantis, Vindicator, and Predator. Can't wait for the demo!

I don't think it's even the first time Mass Effect has borrowed from Resistance. Some might argue that the collector ship/base resembles a level or two I vaguely recall from Halo... but in my opinion the seeker swarms and the art design/environment looks  remarkably similar to the underground/ & alien ship environments in R2 and to a lesser extent FOM. The Collector shields look like the yellow bubble shields the Chimera use which look like the blue ones Master Cheif uses.

Anywho... I'm probably most interested in Mass Effect 3's own genuine innovations.... the weapon mod system looks quite unique... if more of a genuine successor to the system in ME1... I wonder if you can build a Mattock [x] or even Geth Sniper Rifle X Image IPB.

Well yeah... it's a natural extension of the idea incorporating elements of the Resistance system. Deus Ex: Human Revolution also borrowed this as well.

In DE:HR, the first battery would fully recharge, even if completely drained.  It is only at the later batteries that the partial recharge factor kicks in.  Because so many abilities take a full battery, this encourages you to spend the entire game with just one battery.  Unless you are doing an extended cloak, or a cloak+take down, having more batteries is just a waste of cyberboost bars. So you carried those bars around for the few times you needed a boost.

This struck me as a poor job of resource design.

It sounds like Micheal Beettie...I think. Maybe he was hired after all, and Bioware was trolling us with their silence.

It's all speculation right now. We will know for certain when the game comes out :P

Maybe it's the audio quality, but Wreav's voice sounds different too.

If only the cyberboost bars were more plentiful it would have been worth the investment [points]. As it is they are the most pointless augs I agree. The thing was if you only had one energy bar or so they were a huge waste of time so it wouldn't have broken the game to have made them more plentiful for those players who had the augs. Still 2 big bars and you could spam Typhoon three to six times or so which was pretty awesome on Give Me Deus Ex.

In the context of ME3 though I think it will be a big improvement over the current regenerating health system. It gives more practical uses to medigel... and when you take a hit you feel it now and it's reflected in your health. Good move BioWare.

Haha no, it's a nice touch. The blue GUIs, mods, Normandy lighting and lots of other things give ME3 such more prominent ME1-feel, I love it!

Yes, it's been confirmed. But of course the classes that are physically weaker will have bigger Power Cooldowns penalties for carrying big weight

I noticed in the video, near the end when the mech comes in and shep activates his ammo power, the holographic display is full on techy like it was in ME 2, but then it goes away and just the icon for the ammo power is displayed. A little sad to see those extra holographic details go away, but I guess I'll get over it. Everything else looks top notch.
