I mean, these romances will likely end with ME3, so why bother introducing new ones?
At any rate, why not focus on current romances?

2. They want the game to be accessible to people new to the series.
3. The new romances are hot (hopefully)

Introducing new romances where there are already 9 waiting for proper conclusions in asinine. Why not just open old ones to S/S romance?
Because a lot of people would rage for character "rectonning".

Becasue that would require a RETCON (gasp!!!).
Edit: Ahh, beaten too it.

Better that than to create new characters just for romance. Less resources required, more chances of all of the existing romances having proper development, depth and conclusion.ediskrad327 wrote...

And seriously, the old romances get satisfying conclusions and the new ones are fun. After reading the leaks, I have no complaints; the more the merrier.

Which still doesn't change the fact that the ones spent on these new romances could have been used elsewhere.ediskrad327 wrote...

There are already too many romances and they actually went out of their way to add more.

In most cases, it wouldn't. The only character who explicitly states that she isn't into members of the same sex is Jack. Just about everyone else could be bisexual, for all we know.

And it wasn't just that they didn't get to it; Kaidan had unused s/s romance dialogue in ME1.

Hey does anyone have a list or something of all the romancable (spelling? lol) characters in ME3?
UNCONFIRMED and implied from tweets and leaked scripts:
NO ME2-only LIs have "new" romances, but will be continued, similar to Liara in LotSB (no s/s).
Kaidan and Ashley can "make up" or start a new romance (s/s NOT confirmed).
Steve is gay and Samantha is a lesbian (believed to be s/s exclusive, NOT confirmed).
Diana the war correspondant is available for a fling. Confirmed bisexual by the actress.
Liara can continue AND start a romance.
Vega is definitely a LI for female Shepard, but MAY be "bi" as well. NOT confirmed.
Bioware has stated there will be NO Krogan love. Bastards.
Garrus can continue a romance. Nothing suggests a "new" or s/s romance.
The scripts SEEMS to suggest that Tali can continue AND start a romance in ME3. Not clear about "new" or s/s romance.
