Well, if the leaks are true, as it now sounds;

MacGuffin, 3 magic buttons to choose everyones fate, Reapers motivations are based on the delusions of their creators, and don't hold water, all endings kick you in the balls, and you can't actually win in any of them.

Do not go into ME3 expecting to do anything more than survive. The 3 leaked endings are in no way satisfying, and the 'perfect' ending is complete bollocks, both in terms of not making a lick of sense, and in the fact that it basically lets the Reapers win.

Yeah, I'm deffinately in the hate catagory. I'd actually say those leaked endings are as bad as MGS 2, vanilla Fallout 3, and Star Wars the Force Unleashed for not making sense and leaving you pissed off. They're aimed squarely at the 5% of the population that hate happy endings.

... this doesn't seem good, well atleast I'm not expecting much to start with due to playing Adept through ME2 on insane and learning "overpower" has been removed and replaced with "biotic grenade".

Oh the rest of the game, a good 90%+ I'd say, sounds awesome, and the gameplay looks slicker and more fun than ever. It's literally the last major decision, probably the last 15-30 minutes of cutscenes and dialogue that decide to go in the completely opposite direction and tone to everything we're used to from a Mass Effect ending or plot.

Ending one: Reapers Loose, we Loose.

Ending two: Ceasefire.

Ending three, the 'perfect' one: Reapers get an alternative means of achieving victory, we live, but only on their terms.

We survive in them all, in one manner or another, and in argueably a situation where being dead might have been preferably in 1 and 3, but we sure as hell don't 'win'.

Honestly as long as its fun I don't care how it ends. I actually kind of welcome Shepard dying in the end.

I can't tell you any more than Total Biscuit. I haven't read the leaks. I didn't even mean to read his post but I did. I can only hope if it remains in such a state his great degree of vaguness means it all feels fresh to me when I reach the endgame.

I can tell you, however, that from the tidbits I've heard about I would not in fact classify anything in-game as a literal deus ex machina.

The 3 buttons let you choose what the MacGuffin does. It does 1 of 3 radically different things, apparently by magic, that solves the Reaper problem for you. And gives you some other problems instead.

And no, it's not a Deus ex Machina, it's a MacGuffin.

That's weird, I read there are 5 ending, in this very topic at that. You only listed 3.

Those are the different flavors, with varients based on the state of the galaxy.

I'll stop complaining when the endings stop sucking. I really can't express how heart broken I am by what was in those gods damned leaks.

And yeah, I've probably skated too close to the edge of spoilerdom here, but I really think people could do with a warning for just how unsatisfying and disappointing these endings are most likely going to be. It's taken me months to come to terms with them myself.

I'm really just holding on to the increasingly slim looking chance that they've improved since the leaked versions.

Otherwise I'm doing one play through then sticking to multiplayer if I can stomach touching the game again afterwards.

I know this is Mass Effect, but on the subject of pulling a "Lost"...

Lost had a definitive ending that brought the whole journey full circle. If you watched the show for the characters, you were satisfied, and if you watched it for the mythology than you were disappointed. AND the epilogue gave quite a lot of answers.

Now, what were we talking abo-OH YEAH Mass Effect.

Ok, I've possibly missed something, anyone got a link to an official source that says there's 5 endings, because there is only 3 in the leak, 2 new ones means I suddenly have this fragile swelling of hope, so please don't be mistaken.

A lot of its going to be subjective in the end.  The Deus Ex Machina versus McGuffin crowd is a good example.  Both sides have good arguments that are largely subjective.  It will come down to your personal point of view.  Come see me after you beat the game and I will send you the text I'm working off of and the conclusions I'm drawing from them.

I feel your pain. I felt ripped off after reading the leaked endings. I think its just a horrible way to end the series. I just hope the journey is good at this point.

To clarify, I mean the MacGuffin will do one of three things in the leak, you get to pick one, and the way the effects are described, and how different they are to one another, sounds like it's done by magic. Obviously details are missing, and alot of it will be visual, but it's easier to describe as 'three magic buttons'.
