I downloaded the game through Steam... now I am in Haiti, where internet is very spotty indeed.

Dragon Age was keeping me sane - now, for some reason, Steam will not let me start the service in offline mode, and I cannot connect online.

Therefore, I cannot play the game.

What is this insanity?

I bought a game, downloaded it, have all the files on my computer, but cannot play it because someone at Steam determines it so?

I can't believe it. There must be a workaround which I have missed.

Can anyone help?

ps... the most bizarre thing is that my connection, painfully slow, is enough to make this post. But steam has trouble accepting a password over it. I have no idea why it does not store that password, or code, or whatever, as I have played 40 hours on this game ok so far.

Yes you can play it offline. it's very easy. I put my steam in offline mode and the game plays completely normal. However steam DOES require you to go back online about once a week to re validate your games

and once you validate your DLC in the game, you can run the game in offline mode as well

If steam gives you some weird can't find key server error or something like that when trying to play a game with steam offline, then you have an issue with your game installation.. have steam verify all game files and repair it
