[Han Shot First]

The ending of Dragon Age: Origins where the Warden didn't do Morrigan's ritual got me thinking: What if Shepard was faced with a similar choice at the end? If either Shepard or a squad mate had to sacrifice their life to destroy the Reapers, what would your Shepard choose?

This is just a hypothetical scenario, so no spoilers please if you know how ME3 plays out. I'm just curious what choice you'd all make, and why, if Shepard was faced with that scenario.

I voted for the squadmates. It would be sad if any of them were my favorites (didn't have that problem in DAO because I was mostly neutral towards the whole squad... except the dog, it was adorable), but for me, it would be even worse if Shepard was killed. I spend way too much time planning out all these Shepards to send them off to their deaths.

That depends on who the team member is, and on the Shepard I'm currently playing.

My main maleShep thinks that in the long run, Miranda is more important to humanity than he is, so he would go if and only if not doing so would kill Miranda. I haven't thought about the others much.

But anyway, if there was a way out like Morrigan's ritual, I'd try that before sacrificing anyone. Apart from the obvious benefit, I'd be too curious about the result.

Id have Shepard take the bullet.

I kind of feel like it is his duty and would be in keeping with the personality of my own personal canon Shep, even if it was harder for me (the player) to see Shepard die than the squad mate. First one in and last one out.

EDIT: The one possible exception for me might be Legion, but I'd have to think on that. Although I'm in the camp that believes that the Geth are sapient and not just 'toasters,' they feel neither pain nor fear. If Legion was volunteering for the duty I'd at least give it more consideration because of that fact. Death may not be so bad for a Geth.

That's a hard decision without seeing Vega or how much the old characters have changed.

For me it would either be to let someone else die heroically or get rid of the character I dislike the most.

My Shepard would not die, not would she let Liara, they have to wind up together. Garrus must live too.

Depends who the squadmate is, but like I said in the other thread, if the only way to save Kaidan is to kill myself or make him have sex with Liara or someone I am going to lose it.

My canon Shep will die for her squad.
If the decision involves only certain squadmates, I might be tempted to save Shep.
Shep will definitely die for:
Garrus
Kaidan (and even Ashley)
Liara
Tali

Shep will not sacrifice herself for:
Grunt
Wrex
Jacob
Thane (because he's dying anyway)
Mordin (because he's old)
Legion (because he's a machine, yes, and doesn't consider himself an individual)

Shep goes, I'd never ask any of my squad to do something that I wouldn't do myself. Especially if I have the option to preserve someone in the process.

I totally forgot about Thane's little 'problem.' You make a good point there. Thane would be dying anyway, so if Thane volunteered, it would make sense for Shepard to let Thane make the sacrifice. That is of course assuming he doesn't get miracle cured in ME3.

That depends on the squadmate. For example, I would sacrifice Shepard for Liara...but not for the VS or Vega.

It depends on the squadmate, really. I have no qualms with taking one for the team personally, but if SOMEONE is being a MAJOR DOUCHEBAG, then that SOMEONE gets shoved into the hypothetical volcano.

Same here. I can't think of any of my Sheps that would willingly sacrifice anybody else. They're true soldiers and willing to do whatever it takes to get the job done.
