The one thing that lets this glorious game down is the combat. Whats the difference between a rogue/warrior archer? Nothing. Whats the difference between a rogue/warrior DW. Nothing except the other skills a warrior or rogue may have will differ in playstyle (which is very small). Warriors and rogues seem extremly boring and underpowered compared to mages. Now I've heard rogues can still outdps mages but the amount of skills makes a mage has makes it so much more fun. Warriors/rogues need something to regain stamina in combat. Mages can just chug down mana pots. That is OP in long fights compared to warriors/rogues. There is barely nothing that makes warriors or rogues unique except for their small amount of general skills and class specs (alot of class specs are UP and almost useless).

I feel the combat should have been alot more fun and included variety. I think this is an amazing game that deserves game of the year but the variety and the way combat works really let me down. This is just my little rant. Argue and flame away if you really want (I'm used to the worldofwarcraft forums) but this is all my opinion.

I have to agree, I enjoy playing my (heavily modded) game. Combat was an after thought as far as Bioware was concerned though, or at least thats the way it comes across. I don't mind story driven games, but they are still GAMES, combat being an important feature in that equation, and it's not like the story in this game is going to be winning any literary awards or anything, it's better than most, but it's still just your average generic fantasy.

i get the impression that rogues need to rely on poison making for grenades and poison coating their weapons. granted, i'm also on my first playthrough with a mage, and i find that leliana dies a lot, so definately see your point.

Momentum+Lethality+Assassin abilities (both Mark and the one that adds damage to backstabs based on cunning) make rogues absolute beasts. Through in Coup de Grace (any frozen, petrified, etc enemy is automatically backstabbed) and run with morrigan for CoC and you win.

Run a high dex/cunning build wielding daggers and you'll do amazing. No worries on stamina being that momentum makes you attack ungodly fast and those attacks are free. My rogue I'm running currently backstabs for 40-50 damage each hit with a hit ever .75 seconds or so, throw a +damage enchant on there and he gets a bonus 4-5 elemental damage every hit.

As far as archery goes I chose the rogue simply so he could unlock crap and rain hell from afar. Ranger isn't bad either, fully specced you get a spider that has all the abilities of the upgraded shapeshifter spider, and really does quite well, I can't count the number of times that I arrow of slaying insta killed one mage and my spider overwhelmed the other killing both near instantly.

Combat is actually the thing I enjoy the most in this game... Well before I discovered the taunt/ forcefield combo =/

Maybe because I couldn't care less about melee characters.

Explains a lot.

I meant I'm used to ignorant remarks and it seems I am.

backstabbing rogue is quite fun btw, it is vastly different from any other melee style, should try it sometimes. on the warriors how ever, yeh they are most effective by just turning on the passives and auto-attack, makes them rather boring choices. how ever compare to BG2, the melee combat isnt all that exciting either.

combat is very good imo but you cant really say that a DW rog and war are the same... of course if you play a rogue as a you play a warrior they will look the same but get the rog on the back of mobs and you see the difference

also some options for a rog and a war are pretty different... you cant have a taunting rog or a cun war to say two... about archery no idea :P
