I'm among those who voice their appreciation that BioWare not only got back to us but promise to work out the errors and typos for a more comprehensive book. Trouble is if they want to make it a decent read entirely, they'll need to present a much stronger plot than this. Even if Deception was well written, it's still got the most pointless plot out of all the three books.

Even so, I will give it a second read before purchasing it again whenever it gets re-released, I'll just be far more skeptical of it.

I'll just hop on the band wagon to say....

Several people here have the right idea; Deception's "Plot," aside from obviously being swamped with both lore and basic literary errors, was betrayed by its lack of emotion, cohesiveness, and common sense.

*Spoiler*

Even the prologue is a disaster: a bioweapon that is engineered to only target the Illusive man's DNA? Seriously? One; if someone had the resources to actually create such a weapon, they'd be close enough to TIM to kill him outright anyway, so what would be the point of creating the thing? Two; TIM's location is such a secret, that such a specific weapon would be practiacally useless. And three; How the hell did the Batarians find it? Not to mention the entire scene takes place on Kar'Shan, which is a problem for obvious reasons. (Well, obvious to all but Dietz anyway.)

*End spoilers*

Bioware apologizing is nice (Considering they usually have an "Ignore it, let it die," policy,) but this book is a waste of time, a lost cause. Better to just "Ignore it," and "Let it die."

I'm so proud to have been a part of this, and so proud of everyone who came along for the ride - it was magnificent.

Am I the only one who isn't bothered that Kai Leng killed Gillian with a sharpened tooth brush? XD At least Dietz described it as a "prison shank" and it's probably the type of thing that's actually been done in real life before - plus that sounds like the type of thing Leng would do. Personally I just want the thing to fit in with the ME universe without having to twist my brain so much >.<

It's kind of a disrepectful way to kill a character.

Death by toothbrush.

Not to mention highly unnescesary, obtuse, and in poor character for Kai Leng.

Like the cereal scene; yes, it was funny, but am I the only one who read it and thought it was absoutely bizarre? Marking his territory? Kai might be a sociopath, a racist, and a terrorist, but he's not a dog. I really can't imagine (In character.) him doing something like that.

Ding ding ding! Right on the button.

I think this is the divide that nobody in the other topic really wanted to address. What's the real issue at hand here? Is it the lore errors that had everybody riled up? Was it the poor plot and writing? Was it both?

If it's option two or three, the only way to solve the problem is, basically, a completely new novel. The plot would need to be stripped down and rebuilt, providing an actual purpose. As it stands, nothing is really accomplished in Deception aside from three character deaths and Kai Leng getting surgery. A completely new plot would be needed.

If it's option one, Bioware still has a hell of a job ahead of them, but it won't necessarily make the book "good", just better than it is now. Sadly, this is the option I see Bioware taking as a full rewrite would be incredibly time consuming.

But hey, there's nowhere to go but up.

That's the sad thing, I'm actually tempted to go get a physical copy now that I know a rewrite is ahead

Hell, I might as well go now and see if my local Chapters has any copies. Be back soon.

This is surprisingly similar to a bioweapon from the Star Wars disaster Legacy of the Force. At least there they explained the weapon as working in a big area (even planet wide), but as you say, the main problem with killing TIM is finding him. Considering he´s usually on a ship/space station, blowing it up along with the scape pods is much easier.

but at least plausible....if you can get by the fact that since gillian was so powerful she could have just placed him in stasis and been care free....

Thanks for the response and taking on board the issues people had and editing the novel in response.

However will folk who've bought the error riddled version have to pay out for the fixed version or will there be some sort of trade in deal offered?

Glad someone agrees. ^_^

But that fan picture of Kai holding a toothbrush and a box of cereal really was priceless; maybe a passing comment in the revision? Instead of "Happy Bowls," there's cereal/toothbrush vendor?

What this guy says about keeping it as a rare item.

I see where this guy is coming from and I kind of agree, but even so just keeping it around is a waste of money for myself because I'd never read it, it'd just take up space and I'd look at it all the time with pure disgust. Yeah, it's got some real comedic value but I've found myself just growing uncomfortable the more I read it. I really didn't want to keep it around, I just wanted it gone, out of my life, like it never existed. Just having it like a collector's item is like having a burn mark on my wall I don't paint over. It's there, it's a sign of something horrible that happened, but it's already there in my memory. I don't need it scarring my room with its presence, I just want it gone.

Even so, I do agree that book burning is wrong but there are just some moments you're pissed off at what is something of an insult to literature that you'll sweep aside your morals for the sake of self-satisfaction.

I'm glad that Bioware have responded to the issue, but in my opinion people are cheering about this "revision" of the book too soon.

While some lore issues could be solved by adding/ changing a few words in a sentence the main issues would require a complete re-write, something that I really don't think Bioware is going to do.

To be incredibly honest, I would prefer not having the autism mention at all to something like "It turned out Gillians autism was just a side-effect of cereberus drugs! now she's normal" or even worse, specific mention of her autism being "cured". The implications are just too... unfortunate.

Also, nothing but a complete re-write could fix the majority of the characters being randomly killed off for no real reason. What a horrible ending to what what started as quite a good series.

You know...this is the main reason why I love BioWare, they really care about the fans.

The simpliest solution (and the solution 95% of the companies would use) was simply to ignore the issue and that's it. But BioWare has the balls to come to the public and say "we ****ed up and we're working to satisfy our fanbase".

I can't wait for the new edition of Deception.

Well, the entire thing has to be rewritten because in its entirety its nonsensical.

Still, this is a victory. We won. And I'm VERY glad this is the case.

BUT-

Judgement, TRUE judgement, will be held until the newer version is out.

If its still containing massive issues and problems, we'll make our voices heard again.

And you can BET I'll be at the helm of it all.
