Are you going to make efforts to display aspects of Gillian's autism in future editions?

I thank you BW for giving the fans an apology, I am one of those fans that bought tae book and I rarely let others opinions influence my judgment. . . So I bought the book myself and what ppl said about out was true . . . I do have to thank ask the BSN peers that started this revolt (lol) it really help get results. . . But I really hope in the coming weeks that BW goes into depth on just what went wrong with the whole process . . . did the editorial staff drop the ball , I can't think that its ask the writers fault . . . There are suppose to be checks and balances in the process. . .but thank you for listening to us loyal ME fans. . .

according to one of the early posts in jeffzero's thread, somebody wrote/emailed dietz, who contended this went through bioware's approval of his material, take that for what it's worth....he's already been paid

We are currently working on a number of changes that will appear in future editions of the novel.

We would like to thank all Mass Effect fans for their passion and dedication to this ever-growing world, and assure them that we are listening and taking this matter very seriously.

Well, the entire thing has to be rewritten because in its entirety its nonsensical.

Still, this is a victory. We won. And I'm VERY glad this is the case.

BUT-

Judgement, TRUE judgement, will be held until the newer version is out.

If its still containing massive issues and problems, we'll make our voices heard again.

And you can BET I'll be at the helm of it all.

And you're one of the reasons we stayed motivated so long, Prince - thanks for that.

Dang, and here I had to leave the house and miss this announcement. :pinched:

Honestly, I'm more than a little shocked to see that they've officially apologized for "Mass Effect: Deception" and have committed to fixing the novel in a later release, as well as them announcing this newa relatively early (I kind of expected to hear this news either next week or never at all). To all of us who contributed to the now famous Google Document and who did everything we could to spread the news about this utter mess and to get BW to comment on it, I offer my congratulations: We did it. :wizard:

That said.... I still most likely won't pick up the revised version of Deception - for me, it's more than just the numerous errors to ME lore that make the book terrible; the general plot of the novel is frankly terrible and ultimately meaningless to ME (except for 3 random character deaths, nothing and no one in the ME universe changes or evolves from the beginning of the novel to its end) and the author's writing style is incredibly juvenile and amateurish (I second the notion to bring back Drew Karpyshyn as the author).

Wish there was mention during the space battle of the magical "drive killers"
Drive killers were very specialized weapons designed to shut down but not destroy a ship’s propulsion system.
Very specialized indeed. Shall I explain how they work? No? All right. I'm sure everyone will just assume they're magic.

As a Prince its my duty to lead.

I had to. Didn't have an option.

And I couldn't of done it without the thousands of us, spread through so many web pages, backing us up.

I couldn't of done it without the Bioware Social Network- the fans who cared enough to keep up with me, rapid speed and all.

Thank YOU. I humbly thank ALL of you.

But be ready. You never know if we'll have to do this again.

Just rest easy. Get some sleep, let your minds come to rest, and hell, read a book(I just purchased a How to Ride Horses book at my local bookstore).

Relax, and celebrate.

We won.

Thanks so much Bioware for acknowledging this. Thankyou for listening.

Thankyou fellow BSN members for sticking together.

Thanyou "Yuoaman" and others involved with the Googledocs (now famous) error list.

And thanks "JeffZero" for keeping the thread were we fought for this, organized and managed with a certain degree of class.

This is awesome. Looking through the google doc with all the errors made me horribly sad. And wondering a little bit if anyone at BioWare had even read the book before it came out. I mean WOW.

Kudos to Bioware for acknowledging this huge fail.

Now folks, this is a step in the right direction, but this isn't a victory, they didn't declare it non-canon, they said they will fix it. Until we have the fixed book this isn't over.

And I'm skeptical, this book needs more than fixing mistakes, even giving Gilliam her autism back will (or should) warrant a good deal of rewriting.

I do hope people realize that they are only going to be fixing minor errors at best and that the book will still be awful.

Every little bit helps - even if they just fixed it enough so it would actually fit in canon would be great.

I think they do, which is why many of them are saying that a rewrite isn't really needed; when we could just ignore it all together.

In the end its all about how far Bioware wants to go; they have the money to hire another author to write a new novel, and Del Ray has apparently signed on to reprint the new version, but all of that takes even more time than a rewrite, so it might not happen.

That's just it- The book in its current state is no longer canon.

They'll "fix it". Honestly it needs a rewrite in its entirety, but we'll see what happens.

Now we play the waiting game.

The "Cold War" as it is.
