Mark me down as very cautiously optimistic on this one. My main concern is that these errors so pervade the novel that the only way to correct them would seem to be a substantial rewrite. If that's what they're going to do, great! If not, then this may just be the equivalent of slapping a band-aid on a severed limb...

As a Prince its my duty to lead.

I had to. Didn't have an option.

And I couldn't of done it without the thousands of us, spread through so many web pages, backing us up.

I couldn't of done it without the Bioware Social Network- the fans who cared enough to keep up with me, rapid speed and all.

Thank YOU. I humbly thank ALL of you.

But be ready. You never know if we'll have to do this again.

Just rest easy. Get some sleep, let your minds come to rest, and hell, read a book(I just purchased a How to Ride Horses book at my local bookstore).

Relax, and celebrate.

We won.

It's also a prince's duty to provide for the troops. In that light, I expect lots of alcohol and women on my doorstep. Pronto.

Ask around, I provided the troops with more posts than probably everyone else combined.

Oh, I know. I just couldn't pass up the opportunity for such a lame joke.

I care more about it being accurate. As much as we would want a better book with a better plot, I doubt we'll get it.

Think of this as the Highlander 2 of the series. For this is the Renegade Cut.

Now folks, this is a step in the right direction, but this isn't a victory, they didn't declare it non-canon, they said they will fix it. Until we have the fixed book this isn't over.

And I'm skeptical, this book needs more than fixing mistakes, even giving Gilliam her autism back will (or should) warrant a good deal of rewriting.

That's just it- The book in its current state is no longer canon.

They'll "fix it". Honestly it needs a rewrite in its entirety, but we'll see what happens.

Now we play the waiting game.

The "Cold War" as it is.

And let's hope it never gets hot again.

I will give bioware mad props and balls for being able to admit a mistake and agree to try to rectify it, most companies would never acknowledge it, but bioware shows us they are bigger than that.

Cudos to you guys.

If this was any other developer with any other IP, there wouldn't have ever even been an apology. Nothing. No acknowledgement. In fact, I guarantee there are some developers who would've gone out of their way to tell you, "You're reading it wrong." Some would've said, "Hey. Not our problem." Some would've just ignored it and snickered because they got your money.

Be grateful you at least got a reply. But then again, that's probably asking too much of most of the self-serving, delusionally-entitled masses.

I would love to know how this book did not get red-flagged by Bioware. I'm guessing that their will be no easter egg references to Deception in ME3.

Mass Effect fans have been asking for a comment on recent concerns over Mass Effect: Deception. We have been listening and have the below response on the issue.

The teams at Del Rey and BioWare would like to extend our sincerest apologies to the Mass Effect fans for any errors and oversights made in the recent novel Mass Effect: Deception.  We are currently working on a number of changes that will appear in future editions of the novel.

We would like to thank all Mass Effect fans for their passion and dedication to this ever-growing world, and assure them that we are listening and taking this matter very seriously.

You would have been more convincing if you hadn't made those obvious and horrendous mistakes in the first place. You show your fan base you care by maintaining a high standard from the START, not a half assed one later on down the road.

So wait...

They're making a revised copy, and gonna pull the current books.

Which makes the current edition rare and collectable.

So... many people will be buying the current edition because it'll be rare and collectable..

...I see what you're doing there, Bioware :3

Shame. I sincerely hoped "more places to explore on the Citadel" included Anderson's cereals cupboard.

Wow, it only took three days to get them to apologize and promise what has to be a massive rewrite, I'm impressed to say the least.

In fairness, these threads ran for 11 days before we got a response. I think the momentum we had even before realease is what made the difference. Still, less then 3 days after realease is pretty impressive.

I certainly will not be buying a copy of this book though. Either now or in the future. I don't think Bioware can really salvage it. They can do a lot to address the issues, but I think it's going to remain outside my own personal canon no matter what they do.

I think remains of burnt one would be the most collectable. And also another one used for... hm, cat.:P

Whoa! Imagine ads "new item in ME3 Collectors Edition: rare and collectible version of Deception!"

I just feel like there was so much damage and to such an extent it cannot be undone. It made for a good read, but it is just like someone threw a monkey wrench into wood chipper. I appreciate they at least acknowledged it.

"Mass Effect: Deception - Historic item" This was the very burnt copy that help inspire Bioware to re-edit the book. $1000 dollars."

Pretty much this for me, as well - a lot of issues can be fixed, that's for sure, but some of them (especially Gillian's autism) would require a complete rewrite of the novel's plot, which I honestly don't see happening at this point (though BW has, admittedly, surprised me with this apology and commitment to improve the novel).

Incidently, I just started reading Ascension and though I already know the ending from my research for this Deception debacle, I can already say for my own "head canon", Gillian and Hendel will forever be travelling on the Idenna - never to engage in the events that occur in Deception.
