You would have been more convincing if you hadn't made those obvious and horrendous mistakes in the first place. You show your fan base you care by maintaining a high standard from the START, not a half assed one later on down the road.
That kinda goes without saying. But now that a mistake has been made they've owned up and are trying to "make right" by the fans. What else can they do at this point?
Go find your happy pills.

I'm not an expert in such matters, so please feel free to point if I'm wrong, but think the combination of "her condition got far better after Grayson stopped giving her Cerberus drugs", "who knows what happens with brain of young biotics" and some introduced moments reminding about her condition would do the trick.AVPen wrote...
Pretty much this for me, as well - a lot of issues can be fixed, that's for sure, but some of them (especially Gillian's autism) would require a complete rewrite of the novel's plot, which I honestly don't see happening at this point (though BW has, admittedly, surprised me with this apology and commitment to improve the novel).izmirtheastarach wrote...
I certainly will not be buying a copy of this book though. Either now or in the future. I don't think Bioware can really salvage it. They can do a lot to address the issues, but I think it's going to remain outside my own personal canon no matter what they do.
Incidently, I just started reading Ascension and though I already know the ending from my research for this Deception debacle, I can already say for my own "head canon", Gillian and Hendel will forever be travelling on the Idenna - never to engage in the events that occur in Deception.

Before or after ME3?

I wonder if they'll get Dietz to do the edits? Or is another writer doing that? If so, will this writer be credited?

keep reading or wait for the revised edition to be released?!
*thinky*
Reading both version never hurt anyone.
Next time you can read what they changed, though I doubt it'll be anything major. Well if you don't count them fixing everything that needs fixing to be major, that is.

Now the question is: when this v2 of Deception will be launched?
Before or after ME3?
Hopefully they take there time with this to give it the attention it deserves.
Dont rush it Bioware!, and thoroughly crosscheck with the Googledocs error list.

Something to consider is that with this announcement, the canon status of the book is in a limbo state, so if they don't follow up on this we don't have to worry about it screwing the canon.
I can confirm that the first version of the novel is now non-canon.
Its the FINAL versions that are canon, so if they'll be editing it, which they will, THOSE will be canon.
Hopefully we get a more thorough re-write that...well, changes almost everything. At this rate the entire novel can't work with its major transgressions, and if those get corrected, the current state of the novel makes no sense-
A 15 year old autistic little girl going on a manhunt for her father's killer? LOLWUT

Shame on Bioware for allowing this Deception debacle to occur in the first place. Did anyone at Bioware even proof the book as it was being written? Glad I didn't buy it (I have the first two novels).

That's the scary thing; Casey said he "Reviewed," the piece of garbage, and said that it looked great. Oh, and that "Kai Leng is a badass."
Not very encouraging.
EDIT: "Finished my final review of the #MassEffect Deception novel. A really
fun lead-in to #ME3! Kai Leng is a badass. January 31 release." - Casey Hudson.
And I once again fully support having Mass Effect's "Real," writer back.

It's up to the idividual reader to decide whether that would suffice. Literally any explanation would have served better then Dietz's decision to simply pretend that he Autism had never existed.

Eh, I disagree. The only *problem* with it is the social stigma against kids doing traditionally un-kidlike stuff, which just as with everything, sometimes happens.
Of course, a 15 year old wielding a gun when as far as we know she's had no training with it would be odd. But I see no issue with a 15 year old biotic killing machine, at least from a writing standpoint, if not an emotional standpoint.
