Cool that something is being done about this. I just wonder how much it will really affect it...I mean just changing a few facts...is that going to be enough for some of these fans? Sounds like the whole thing might need to be reworked. Not that I've read it myself.

And there was much rejoicing.

This was my first thought when I saw this.

So how much is being changed? Will those who bought the book get the revised version for free?
I hope the answers to these questions are all of it and yes.

Mass Effect fans have been asking for a comment on recent concerns over Mass Effect: Deception. We have been listening and have the below response on the issue.

The teams at Del Rey and BioWare would like to extend our sincerest apologies to the Mass Effect fans for any errors and oversights made in the recent novel Mass Effect: Deception.  We are currently working on a number of changes that will appear in future editions of the novel.

We would like to thank all Mass Effect fans for their passion and dedication to this ever-growing world, and assure them that we are listening and taking this matter very seriously.

Interesting, so what you're saying is the writers will edit out the errors out of Mass Effect Deception and would be re-released agian, only better. Am I correct Chris? Image IPB

Can those who own copies of the book (since none of my book stores ever got a copy), make a list of things about the plot you didn't like?

The main 2 that I can think of (from what I'm told) is Leng being sent off to steal a corpse despite TIM being ok with it before, and caring now because of "credibility". And the other being TIM trying to kill Gillian, instead of capturing her.

Sorry if I've missed this question, but I wonder if they will edit the digital copies? I preordered this book on my IPad but I've held off reading it after seeing all of the nonsensical errors on the forums.

I picture a "War Room" of Del Rey and Bioware writers pouring over the pages making edits here and there...using masseffect.wikia.com as a guide. :)

The entire subplot with Aria looking for Liselle's killer has to go.  From the funeral on Thessia with the hundreds-strong T'Loak family to discovering it was Kai Leng: gone.  It can't be made to work with what we know about her and what happened in Invasion.

I'm quite concerned as to how this will be handled. Because we'll either get something extremely fruitful, or something half-assed.

Based on the wording, I'd say they will be specifically concentrating on the lore and factual problems.

But it's very possible they aren't even sure to what extent they want to go yet.

The apology is good.

Not sure how they can fix the Gillian Grayson stuff without a complete rewrite of her part, but they should at least be able tidy up some of the more incidental lore issues which will simplify things for the wiki if nothing else.

Yeah, that needs to go. You can't have her know before Invasion at least. That, or give her a real good reason to put getting revenge for her daughter aside. Then again, I don't know how, since she was willing to sacrifice a lot just to get Grayson.

Maybe profit, and get revenge later at a better time?

Pretty much. All we have right now is "ok, we'll see."

Another thing that needs to change is Hendel and Gillian just trusting a Cerberus agent, and willing to drop what they've been doing the entire time (hiding from Cerberus). Same with Cerberus guy spilling his beans so easily to people hiding from Cerberus.

Like I said, the entire damned thing has to change. At its CORE it doesn't make any sense.

Although it doesn't change the fact it never should've happened in the first place its still pretty awesome to get not only a response but action. Really demonstrates the power of community. How much effort goes in and how much gets changed has yet to be seen but opening communication on the subject can only be a good thing.

Shame on Bioware for allowing this Deception debacle to occur in the first place. Did anyone at Bioware even proof the book as it was being written? Glad I didn't buy it (I have the first two novels).

Maybe they can get Drew Karpyshyn for a rewrite? :)

That's the scary thing; Casey said he "Reviewed," the piece of garbage, and said that it looked great. Oh, and that "Kai Leng is a badass."

Not very encouraging.

EDIT: "Finished my final review of the #MassEffect Deception novel. A really
fun lead-in to #ME3! Kai Leng is a badass. January 31 release." - Casey Hudson.

And I once again fully support having Mass Effect's "Real," writer back.

PR bull**** most probably.

The reason why I want this more brought up is because, if they are going to make changes, they might be reading this thread to know what needs to be altered, besides lore errors.

Not saying they'll make a better book. But if we can highlight the main issues with the plot, beside "being bad", then who knows.
