Can those who own copies of the book (since none of my book stores ever got a copy), make a list of things about the plot you didn't like?

The main 2 that I can think of (from what I'm told) is Leng being sent off to steal a corpse despite TIM being ok with it before, and caring now because of "credibility". And the other being TIM trying to kill Gillian, instead of capturing her.

Whole plan about ramson for Leng, which will be delivered by TIM himself. It's incredibly naive, that he do something like this.

But hey, I have an idea! What about using Kai Leng as live bomb infected by that DNA biologically weapon from Prolog? There should be two samples (This will be mentioned during prolog) and second will be in possession of Aria and kept in bank robbed by BIotic underground.

Say what you will about the internet age and people never being satisfied, but it says something about your work's quality when an author, game company, and publishing company decide to go back and change the book.

Let's have our apologies for assassinating the characters of Ashley and Kaidan first. How many threads and posts need to happen before you will right the first major wrong to the series?

Go grind your pet axe elsewhere.  This thread is about the Deception novel.

Yeah, because that has a lot to do with Deception.

A lot.

This is awesome, i'll wait for a review of the revised version before I buy it but if this action is any indication of how sincere Bioware is to it's fans I will probably buy the book.

"Sorry the book was so awful guys. Buy it again and give us more money in a couple of months and it might be better."

This could be the start of a new business paradigm. Instead of doing a good job, release a terrible book and then release a new "improved" version later and get your fans to buy it again!

You would have been more convincing if you hadn't made those obvious and horrendous mistakes in the first place. You show your fan base you care by maintaining a high standard from the START, not a half assed one later on down the road.

That kinda goes without saying. But now that a mistake has been made they've owned up and are trying to "make right" by the fans.  What else can they do at this point?

Go find your happy pills. ;)

I never settle for mediocrity, especially when my wallet is doing the talking. A franchise must be handled with care, always, and with the utmost care or else incidents like this happen. As a novelist and part time writer, I would NEVER even dream of stunting my universe, characters and settings without asking my fans first. You have to remember that it's them, who made your franchise grow and mature. Making a blundering mistake, like the one made here, should never happen in the first place and "making it right" doesn't excuse the fact that it still happened.

It's not "what can they do?" it's more "what could they have done."

Personally, I don't think a few changes will be enough. The thing seriously either needs to be made non-canon or needs to be completely rewritten by a different author. Not only are there near-on 100 lore errors or inconsistencies, but the thing is shockingly written on top of that.

Since when has William C. ever written anything worth reading?

Shut up and GTFO of here.

Go take your whine to the Ash/Kaidan topic on the Character board please. This is about the Deception novel, not about how they "assassinated" Ash/Kaidan.

I have to say, kudos BioWare! This is great news and I am really surprised to hear them. Not everybody would have gone that far and actually devoted themselves to rewriting flawed material. IMO this hows that BW does care about the franchise quality instead of just the revenue and I am glad to see that.
Also, a big "Thank you!" to the people, who were active in the discussion thread and who were putting together the (in)famous google doc. You guys are responsible for all of us getting a better quality book. Cheers guys!

We REALLY appreciate your apology. It's much more than we expected. And it's great that you willing take the time to correct Deception.

But to be honest, most of us here agree that we won't give you our money (again) if your corrections will only fix the lore errors. The main problem is the PLOT, and if you guys aren't going to create an ENTIRELY NEW plot, then there's really NO point in a new edition, and you might as well just declare Deception as non-canon.

I don't know. This is the first time I've (partially) read anything of his. But that's kind of my point: either just strike the book from the canon, or get a different author to give it a heavy rewrite. If you must keep the broad brushstrokes of the story, then fine, but almost every paragraph I've read in that damn thing is awful, whether it's an inconsistency, bad grammar, unneccesary repetition of something or just bland.

Its damage control now. We don't need a new ground breaking plot out of this, just for the lore errors to be rectified. A new plot would be a bonus but not essential.

Certain plot elements will need to be modified though to make parts of it fit into canon.

I will read the others' comments about the fixed editions before buying the book.

Glad to know Bioware is worried enough to do such for us :)
