To be fair most of what we know about the asari seems to suggest they have evolved to be as attractive and desirable to as many species and types as possible. The bachelor party on the citadel springs to mind.

While, one might have a leg to stand on making the case a gay man would not find the genetic aspects of the asari desirable...I find it a conceivable notion based on what we know of the asari. However, I would have also expected a writer to do it in a way that made that aspect clear.

This is just a very poorly written book,
so no mater how much correction you do to the lore, short of rewriting
the whole thing it still remains a very bad book.
So I add my voice
to the opinion that it should be tossed as cannon and move on, oh and
don't let Mr. Dietz near any of the future works.

Even if the book is bad there may be events that happened, or were supposed to happen, that Bioware specifically *wants* to be canon regardless of the quality of the book or our personal opinions.

So, I never really expected them to toss it out completely.

Exactly. It's what is so frustrating about so many of these errors. A bunch of them would be seriously softended if Dietz had taken two seconds to explain them. Instead he just presents a bunch of illogical things as facts, and expects us to buy them.

Yes, the big ones were Dietz's doom. If he made only those little, we would only smirk "star-shaped Citadel... suuure" and it will be all. But there were so many great mistakes, that people started looking for others and when they started, they found all those little ones too.

Haha, no worries! I was making a joke of my own because lets face it, a little trolling is all in good fun.

Glad to see this official response. Was worth the wait. Good work to those involved in bringing the errors to light and to everyone who supported it. :)

Now I wonder how much a first edition ME: Deception copy would be worth in the future. Maybe it'll be like the 3 Legged Buffalo Nickel. Image IPB

Yeah. Ironically a mint-condition copy of the original devoid of burns, tears or highlighted/circled inconcistences and lore errors would end up worth a small fortune, despite it being ass.

Very good point. Karpyshyn makes alot of small mistakes in his books aswell. He uses a very similar description of the Citadel in Revelation. But Dietz crossed a line.

Thanks BioWare. There's a reason I love you. I wonder, is there any way to know when the 'fixed' novel will come out? I'd like to read it before ME3 launches.

If I was him, I'd be pissed off.  His reputation has been trashed for mistakes which are in a large part not his own.  While he could no doubt have done a better job, he's fundamentally reliant on the editing process to pick up on lore goofs before the product is released.

Yeah, I wonder. They literally had to apologize for his book. No matter how responsible Bioware was in this, that can't look good for Dietz.

Every mistake in this book is his. How do you figure they are not? He himself said on day 2 of of this whole thing that he felt it was his responsibility to read all of the books and play all the game. This is what the man does for a living. If he can't do a good job, then he doesn't deserve that living.

Bioware has to take resposibility, because it's their property. But there is plenty of blame to go around.

I really cant see dietz getting any more work after this....
It was so bad they are revising it.

I doubt we will see revisions before me3 though.

Why would you take dietz side lol? He didnt A. Read the prior books. B. Play the games. C. Care about the series.
Seriously 10 hours of straight reading would cover just the books.
Do you think Branden Sanderson didnt read all 13 wheel of time books before writing sequels? He read them all and probably took notes....Then read them again.
Dietz career is in the trash. He deserves it, he chose easy money.

Well... good. I honestly didn't expect you guys to do anything about it. Although I suppose one benefit of a book is that it can actually be re-written.

Still it's bothersome this was released. Your fans should not have to throw an internet temper tantrum to give you the imperative to release consistent material that doesn't damage your own series. For starters it implies you don't think too highly of your fanbase; in that that we have no attention to detail and that we will gladly buy anything with N7 or Mass Effect on it. Granted I suppose that is not entirely your fault as there are a number of people like this out there who make no effort to use discretion. And to be fair I realize not everyone cares to read the codex, or be a Mass Effect Geek. But it's disheartening to me whenever people take a "whatever" attitude to things. Quality is what should always be striven for in all things, even in entertainment.

Though one thing troubles me with all this. You are once again encouraging people to throw fits to get what they want seemingly. Admittedly there was a good effort by various individuals to make a cohesive and detailed list of errors, you know instead of just repeatedly posting "THIS SUXS!", though there was a fair amount of that. Although as I am reading the book and from what I know, much of the list of errors, is not errors. It's simply people griping about things they personally do not like. And while everyone is certainly entitled to their opinion, opinions should not be confused for what is considered correct. Even if many people share that opinion. Priority should be given to those which are based on the most reliable information, and in general well thought out.

Only a few things in this book actually need to be "fixed". The rest is all far too subjective. Granted people may not like those things, but that's too bad. Now I'm not saying the book is great  or anything and personally even with the glaring errors fixed it will at best be "okay". But frankly none of the books have really been high caliber writing and the others have their fair share of tackyness and less then sensible actions. For once I would actually say people have probably been over-reacting. Which is very strange coming from me, since I'm generally someone who looks specifically for the flaws in things. Once I have finished reading the book for myself I think I will be making my own commentary on the great list of errors.

The thing is, I'm sure that Dietz is a nice enough guy, I just wished he had put the care into this book that it deserved.

His reputation was trashed because he did a bad job. That's how things work, in any industry.

There's actually been studies that gay men don't like shemale porn, and that majority of them are viewed by straight men. Mainy because they contain female traits that men find attractive.

So I doubt a gay man would be attracted by a creature that looks like a woman, unless said person already found such traits attractive.

Exactly!!  You just said it simpler than I did - heh.

I must disagree. He make a deal to write book from game universe so it's also his responsibility to study this universe before writing. Yes, editing process failed nasty here, but nothing change that it was him, who wrote this book. Also this is minimally his fourth book from game universe (Halo, Hitman, Starcraft), so he must know what is need to do. No mention that critized is also his grammar, style and logical mistakes in plot.
