So how are we supposed to tell the rewrite apart from the original? Mass Effect: Deception (The Totally Better Version!)
Also a bit off topic but, @eqzitara, Brandon Sanderson is my favorite author and it would be epic if Bioware got him to write the book!

Brandon Sanderson is my favorite author as well, but he's pretty high profile and I doubt Bioware would pay so much for a rewrite - plus he's pretty much exclusively fantasy.

Though to be honest hes probably EXTREMELY booked... he writes like 3 novels at once lol.

Science fiction. But still I agree, probably outside their price range......have no idea how/why he did the infinity blade book though.

What? I never said that, I said there was no scene in the book where he had sex with a man, I don't know what he was doing two weeks before the events of Ascension.

So what actually establishes his preference then? I'm confused because given what you and others listed you cannot conclude he is 100% homosexual. You could infer maybe he and Kahlee had sex in the past, but it was not all that. He could prefer men to women yet still like women. He could prefer certain women over some types of men. It would be his personal attraction. Really tall is a trait I don't desire so even if a tall woman looks like a godess to me I would prefer someone shorter. He has his own traits he looks for and if they are not revealed then it is writer's caveat.

Anyway that's about all I have to say on it.

The Alcatraz series is actually fantasy, magic and such. And I'm pretty sure he was hired by the developers to do the Infinity Blade book, not sure about the exact circumstances, though.

Same here.

Bad as it is, this book must be preserved simply for the sake of history.  This mistake must never be repeated.

So I'll get a copy, so I can show others in the future how NOT to expand a beloved universe.

Yes this. I mean I can understand the flipping out over Gillian's and Nick's age for example, since it is extremely hard to believe years have passed since Retribution. Though none of us also know yet what year ME3 takes place in I believe. And the Batarian Embassy as well, though again we cannot be certain that the Batarians didn't somehow manage to get back an embassy. If the book takes place after Arrival, the idea of the Batarians re-establishing an embassy isn't entirely absurd. They did lose 300,000 of their own people to a seemingly terrorist action. I'd say they'd have plenty of "galactic sympathy" to re-open one.

Now granted it's been several months since I read the other books and I'm sorry if I didn't take notes. But I missed the part where Hendel was explicitly labeled as being strictly homosexual. Yes it was implied, but never outright said. I have not gotten to this part of Deception where  Hendel is apparently hitting on women. Also why is it a problem for Hendel to die?

And as for Gillian's Autism. Okay from what I understand Gillian was never truly autistic to begin with. It was more a side effect of Cerberus drugging her on a constant basis that made her appear to be. Now I think in part due to Overlord, people mistake Grissom Academy as being a place for "special" individuals. Really it's suppose to be a Biotic School more then anything else. So the confusion here is a bit understandable, and something like this should have been clarified better.

Have you read the book? Seriously, if you haven't even read the ****ing book how can you claim to know about the characters' sexual orientations. Here's the quote:

“I'm starting to think you two are more than just friends” Jiro said darkly.

Kahlee actually laughed out loud. She saw Jiro stiffen, and he turned away from her.

“I'm sorry” she said, wrapping a comforting arm around his shoulder. “I didn't mean to laugh. But trust me, I'm not Hendel's type. You might be, though.”

For a second he seemed puzzle, a look of confusion on his boyish face. “Ohhh” he said a moment later, grasping what she meant.

Actually, Gillian was confirmed as autistic as a young child, long before she started getting drugged by Cerberus - they only served to exacerbate her condition, not create it.

From Ascension:

At age three she had been diagnosed with a mild form of high-functioning autism; it had almost caused the board to reject her application to the Academy.

And there we go. So unless they were pumping a girl who didn't even have biotic implants yet with biotic-enhancing drugs, then she's always been autistic.

Wonder how William.C.Dietz is taking the news?

If I was him, I'd be pissed off.  His reputation has been trashed for mistakes which are in a large part not his own.  While he could no doubt have done a better job, he's fundamentally reliant on the editing process to pick up on lore goofs before the product is released.

In my opinion, Dietz has no one but himself to blame. As the author of a tie-in novel which will be read mainly by fans, you HAVE to do your research or you get a steaming mess like Deception. It appears that, instead of playing the games and reading the previous three books, Mr. Dietz glanced at a few wiki entries and threw the thing together in a week. (Not disrespecting the wiki guys, they do good work.)

And actually, BioWare shares some of the responsibility. Someone up there had to sign off on it. Lets hope this is a lesson they take to heart and practice some real quality control going forward.

Wrong, in Ascension is written that she was diagnostic as autist when she was tree years old and that they started giving her drugs at Academy, because she didn't makig progress in active using of her biotic. Drugs didn't cause it, only worstening it.

At age
three she had been diagnosed with a mild form of high-functioning autism; it had almost caused the board to reject her application to the Academy.
