People, it's a vague promise from a mainstream corporation known for regularly breaking and twisting its vague promises.

Wake up.

Thanks for the contribution, equally vague voice of doom and gloom. No one is expecting anything. For me, the actual acknowledgement  of a problem was enough.

Its great that they acknowledged it. And hopefully shakes them up enough that it wont happen again.

I miss Drew.

I hope he takes a break from writing all that TOR nonsense and edits the new edition of Deception.  As well as writing any other ME books down the road.

Or at least let Walters take over.

EDIT: By nonsense I mean anything not-ME related. :P

I don't want Walters anywhere near a Mass Effect novel. That's a whole different beast than what he seems to be involved in.

Yeah...This is why I didnt buy it... I read the sample they released of the book and just shook my head at it... I knew that not having Drew do it was a HUGE mistake and it was confirmed. Im glad I didnt waste the money. I didnt realize there was a huge uproar to it though. Why on earth did they let him destroy the newest ME novel is beyond me. So are they rewriting the book? How long would that take? Also noticed they didnt have an audio book made. Maybe someone knew what was up and didnt ok it.

I suppose it depends whether they really are going to basically rewrite the whole thing (which they, IMO, should do if they're going to) or whether they're simply going to merely edit the 100 or so errors, but leave it poorly written beyond that.

Poorly written but consistent with the lore is eons beyond what we have now. So let them do their thing. They can't make it WORSE than it is, that's for sure.

I wonder how they can "fix" all the errors, when some of the mistakes in the book would require almost complete re-write, plot and all.

To be honest, I'd have been happier if Deception had just been struck from canon, but I should take my victories where I find them, I guess...

Going back and revising the book is really cool and unexpected imo. Obviously it won't be a full rewrite, but some continuity fixes sounds great. This is especially cool since, honestly, the impact to Mass Effect 3 if they didn't do that would be minimal outside of a minority of fans who are especially passionate about the universe.

Really, Kudos!

What was it I just read...almost 17 pages of glaring issues that dont follow the lure in the newest novel? That's got to be the worst book I've seen released in a long time.

https://docs.google....=en_GB&sle=true

I hope he was a volunteer and not paid? I wander if Bioware asked him if he knew anything about the series before writing for them?

Bioware actually sought him out and handed him money to write this thing.

I really don't get what all the fuss is about. Bioware already ****ed up with the mass effect canon on me2 but no one complained about that. Besides, I have read the books and they are awful.

Both statements are your opinions, many people obviously don't share them.

What he said was fact. ME2 is a semi-reboot with a loose continuity with ME1 at best. They completely retconned the ME1 ending where the council and human councilor recognized the reaper threat and were preparing for war and completely rewrote Liara's character.

I don't see what the fuss with Deception is all about either. ME3 itself disgards established lore like Cerberus being crippled in Retribution and has things like the EDI sexbot that go hand and hand with Kai Leng the cereal killer and vase urinator.

Did Kai Leng really pee in Anderson's apartment?

Wait, Del Rey published a tie-in novel for a popular science fiction universe and it is riddled with errors and bad editing? Color me shocked, shocked I say!

It ain't exactly surprising, if you are a Star Wars fan. :-/

At least we aren't required to consider it canon right this second. Until they release a re-edited version, this is in a kind of canon limbo.

Wow....I never thought this would actually happen. I must admit that BioWare has really impressed with this admission and I'm very much looking forward to purchase a revised copy of the book.

I'm gonna have to agree with Seboist that the worse the novel is the better it is as a tie-in for ME3.

ugh this sucks. I really wanted to check this out before ME3 but these errors sound awful, are they so bad that the David, Gillian, Kahlee, Cerebus story is awful? or is it just side stuff like a building being their that should be destroyed (Which I do care about BTW, but if the characters and their story are still cool I might buy it anyway despite the lore errors)

Keep at it, Phaedon, maybe Bioware will shower you in gems and gold.

If you do not want spoilers, then I will put it this way: NO. The story is awful, Anderson and Kahlee are ignored for most of the book, and what happens to Nick & Gillian is incredibly unsatisfying. The main story is the real issues. Nitpicking is one thing, but I'm very disappointed with how these characters are portrayed. My vote is to pretend that it never happened.

Gems and gold? Are you bloody kidding. For duck's sakes, where have you been during the second half of the 20th century?

Never heard of:

"I love to dive around in it like a porpoise, and burrow through it like a gopher, and toss it up and let it hit me on the head!"
