Umm, right. You know what? You have a nice day.

No, I demand to know which cave you passed the entirety of your life in.

Saphra Deden, stop derailing threads. It's ****ing annoying.

If you aren't going to discuss Deception, go find another thread to complain in.

Did Kai Leng really pee in Anderson's apartment?

No, he ate Anderson's cereal.

He urinated in a vase later on.

I disagree. While I understand why it wouldn't be cost effective to reject the final draft, the errors were very serious and should have been fixed by an extensive research into the universe. Dietz didn't do that, though he ought to.

It hasn't been fixed yet - many of the people posting paid for this piece of crap and are understandably upset.

Keep at it, Phaedon, maybe Bioware will shower you in gems and gold.

Gems and gold? Are you bloody kidding. For duck's sakes, where have you been during the second half of the 20th century?
Christ.

"For duck's sakes"? I see what you did there. Touche sir.

Shame Drew Karpyshyn didn't write Deception, might have avoided this whole mess and embarrassment.

Drew isn't exactly 100% true to the universe either. He makes quite a few lore mistakes.

I wonder will Bioware update the main story too? Or just fix some errors...

I mean the main story also has problems: this ending makes the whole novel series a meaningless side story of the Mass Effect games.

But at least his mistakes are usually negligible and don't break canon.

It's good that they pay attention what the fans saying but i still can't help to wonder, how the hell they let the book published this way. I'm pretty sure someone at Bioware have read Deception before it is published.

This is not a good sign for future products in Mass Effect franchise.

So the optimist in me says: "Great, Bioware cares about us and listens to our opinions. Yay!"

But the pessimist in me says: "Bioware made this announcement so that we will all shut up about it. In a few weeks when ME3 launches we'll forget it ever happened. Changes may or may not get made to the book, but no one will be paying attention so it's not going to matter anyway."

I'll go even bigger and say this isn't a good sign for future BioWare products in general.

@Phaedon I know there are serious errors in the book, but some ppl just attack every last detail of it, almost as if they do it just for the sake of bashing Dietz hard work, even if it is flawed. Like the "asari air kisses", (where Gillian and another asari cause the air around them to crackle with biotic energy) or that derogatory term used on quarians, why is stuff like that a huge deal? Lots of books based on franchises add little things like that, cant a guy use his imagination? That doesnt excuse the major errors no, but still.

Bioware's fixing the problem though so thats good. =]

@Yuoaman It was only 8 bucks for god sakes and there were complaints from the first day it came out. I'm sure they had time to return it.

Besides, now that edition will be become rare and worth something in the future so maybe its a good thing lol.

Nice to see that you understand the value of money.

And not everyone saw the thread or the coverage until they had already bought it - and many places don't do returns.

We also recognize that some of the issues aren't as big as others, there's a ranking system on the list - we were listing everything, no matter how small.

Well atleast they pulled it and admitted it was severally flawed. Sure it was probably based on fiscal basis, but atleast they did it.

Yeah, but little flaws, when many enough, produce a major flaw. And there are in fact some major flaws in the book as it is. There's no problem with people trying to point them out, especially when they realise that they are nitpicking. They are specifically pointing out which are minor and which major flaws.

While I  am sure that Dietz is a talented writer (I am a fan of other books of his), and that he worked hard to write the book, the quality of the overall result is rather poor. He should note all of the flaws, collect the constructive feedback, ignore the destructive one, and improve.

it's not for the sake of bashing. it is bad writing! so bad it's terrible. and I don't care if it's Dietz or anyone else. I'd complain about this kind of bad writing, too, if it came from Gaider or Karpyshyn.

It's basically "They do this because of this and this and this and then they do this because of this and this and this and then they do this becuase of this and this and this so that is why that and that happened which is bad becuase of this and that." Aside from writing errors, constant repettion of words within one paragraph and simply bad choice of words, Dietz explains everything to death and literally beats the reader over the head with details that are not only NOT important to the story but also simply don't belong there because no one wants to know.

Not to mention that he basically feels compelled to remind the reader repeatedly what certain people look like as if we aren't able to get it after the first time.

It's not just the myriad of errors in the book that bothers people. The writing itself is bad. The book is junk. The book shouldn't be revised. It should be discarded and replaced with a completely new one written by an writer who knows how to write.

OK so I pre-ordered this book on amazon (It's been shipped and coming to me I haven't read it) but it has a 1 star review is it that bad? Is it just spelling or what?
I reread Drew's books and noticed he had some odd flubs mainly revolving around choices my in game Shep made, um is the book even salvageable by tweaking some minor errors in the writing or should it have been scrapped?

I don't think I've read anything by Dietz he wrote a few Halo books I think, and hating him because he's not Drew is just not how I roll.

I read a bit of a review on amazon and it said that in this book Gillian is no longer Autistic instead she was just a very angry kid, and it had some other big flubs in it.
It sounds like this book is really worse than bad it's crap and sould be entitlled  "Mass Effect: You Were Deceived?" You gave us your money and got a ****ty book! There's your Deception!!

I'll know one way or another I guess once I get it and try to read it. Honestly if is that much of a butcher job it should never have seen the light of day, like so many great frinchese to fall victom to being just a money taking machine.
