Wow, when I'd leave for a few hours in the original thread, there would be ten pages I'd need to run through. I can actually hear my thoughts echo in this one.

I'm sure Drew has at the very least looked at the googledoc, like IceCold has mentioned; this is simply too big a response for him to not notice, especially because it deals with a story he started. He's probably just playing it safe, and not saying anything about it.

Though I'd like to think he smiled a little, even just due to how many people are saying "Come back Drew! We need you!"

Guess making it non-canon was really not possible anyway, I assume quite a few of the events happening in the book will appear in ME3 in some form. But it's great to hear a response, those mistakes really were way too many.

Agreed. I was fully expecting something like that. But question is: is there going to be a patch somewhere? or we'll have to rebuy and re-read the whole new version?
(guess there will always be MEwiki)

As others have already said, as far as the leaked script goes, there is nothing related to Deception in ME3. So its actually quite easy to declare it non-canon. Look at ME2; that game hardly followed the story of ME1, let alone the books that took place before it.

What do you mean by "Patch?" If you mean the for the novel, isn't that what a rewrite basically is? So yes, you'd have to re-buy and re-read the thing anyway.

Has Dietz responded to the fan backlash over the book? If so can anyone pm/post a link to it, haven't found anything on google or these forums.

No reaction from him, he'd deadly silent. I understand him but it's in his best behalf make some statement because now it looks like:

1) He didn't take care about this book and seriously underastimate preparation, so now he should have problems with writting book from another universe with big lore.

2) The only reason why was his others book readible was hard work of editors. Amounts of grammar mistakes, mispelling names and styllistic mistakes here was so huge that it's definitely damaging his reputation.

He should better react ASAP, because from now will be his every next book compared with Deception and this isn't good for him.

Y'all ready for some funsies?

Those of you who participated in the war against Deception will recall that I friended William C. Dietz on facebook and posted this on his status about the Barnes and Nobles #6 thing-

Yuvraj Linares-Mohan wrote...

Mr. Dietz, what are your thoughts on the rather negative reaction for Mass Effect: Deception lately?

I should clarify- I'm asking because if you weren't aware, the Bioware Social Network has a near 450 page thread(as of this posting) with 10K+ posts universally against the novel, even wishing it disavowed from the lore. On top of that, many gaming websites are covering that fans want the novel disavowed and that there's a google document(Fan made) that lists all the inconsistencies in the novel. On top of that, one fan even burned a copy of the book.

So I'm just curious where you stand on this. Its quite shocking, really.

Also, as an author, its expected that you would defend your work(as would I). But several inconsistencies have rubbed fans the wrong way, some even insulting them, such as a character who was autistic suddenly having it hand-waved off, and a homosexual character suddenly becoming heterosexual. Some fans are offended, and we're put off by your defense of the novel in an email you sent to a fan(said email being well worded, mind you).

I believe the fans just want to know what you REALLY think. Not the author, not the businessman, but the real inner sanctum of who you are- They want to know what YOU think about all this. I am simply their leader- Here to let you know how the masses feel. But personally, I ask you what I asked earlier- what are your thoughts on this situation?

I finally got a response!

He unfriended me. That's it.

Saw that in another post a few minutes later. Chapter 2 is gold.

My brother has Aspergers syndrome. While it is possible for someone to "outgrow" mild autistic tendencies, if it does happen it's (usually) not until they're much older.

Well, I think that's just dandy, LPPrince. I can't wait to finally hear what he says- if he ever can shake the shame and bring himself to make a statement.

If he unfriended me just because I left a respectful few paragraphs asking for his opinion, I take it he's not feeling very discussive right now.

He can't make a statement.
1) They're still trying to sell the novel, him opening up will only butcher any sales they can get.
2) Legally, he probably can't.
3) He wasn't the only one involved.

I don't think so, apologize from Bioware completely changed situation.  After Bioware statement it's in his best behalf to do it. There were two targets of fan rage and one of them make humble apologize, so now all going on him.
