You realize that wasn't supposed to be taken entirely seriously, right?

I dunno... he's definitely not exaggerating now bad the book is. If anything, that's an understatement.

Oh, he hated the book.  That's not in question.  But the video isn't deadly serious.  Just look at what he chose as the soundtrack.

From the way Gillian was handled in Accession , I actually thought that BW had big plans for her . . .that Deception was going to be her stepping stone into the actual Mass Effect game . . . maybe not full fledged but maybe a cameo or maybe her and David from Overlord were to be the secret weapons to defending or defeating the Reapers . . . especially since TIM was so interested in her abilities.

This was something I was hoping for as well. The second that Kai Leng was announced for Mass Effect 3, I almost jumped out of my chair; because it meant that the novels were actually going to be worth something in the core games. That lead me to wonder about everyone else; Kahlee, Gillian, etc, and if they were going to be there as well.

But a lonesome toothbrush ended that idea.... For now. We'll see; her death might seem like too big a plot point to rewrite, but they very easily could keep her alive in Deception 2.0, and possibly introduce her in later DLC, considering its too late to feasibly put her in the core game so close to release. Wishful thinking anyway.

The book was terrible, we can all get behind that. People will express themselves in unique ways. So a fan burns the book and puts the footage on youtube. Not what I would have done but it gets the job done. Just be sure not to mistake that with the hatred seen in some videos of people burning flags, bibles etc.. (a Pitty computers have some nasty chems in them, otherwise Id burn a few copies of Origin just to get the day started)

Well.... About sending a message. You mustn't have been following this whole Deception saga since launch. This guy got the media's attention, and he did it hiding under his n7 thing.

You can fix a few lore inconsistencies and other minor stuff in the "future editions", but how can you fix a silly plot and total stupidity of every major character?

This is great news. Thanks, BioWare!

I'll definitely buy the new version of Deception when it comes out. I'm still trying to decide if I should pick up the old one too, as a "collector's item" and to compare the differences in greater detail. It'll be interesting to see how much has been changed.

This is my personal experience: I managed to get through maybe a chaper and a half, by which point I wanted to pull my own eyes out. I felt sick and and I felt angry. The youtube video book burning thing is pretty childish but there is no way I'd look at that video and think "are you serious?" coz I totally get what that guys motivation is.

Yes, I thought Gillian would get important too.
Contrary to Kahlee I can actually see her contributing something to the Reaper War, as she is a very powerful biotic (even without impossible "new implants"), surely as powerful as Jack (who is on a "Level" similar to an asari matriach), when she reaches her full potential.
Afterall she could create Singularities at age 12 and throw forklifts on Cerberus operatives (loved that scene, Drew).

Kahlee pretty much did her part, she has no info or knowledge that Anderson or Shepard don't have and is over all not that useful as a fighter.
I really did think Gillian would now replace her as main female protagonist and not die a stupid pointless death (by a toothbrush ... I don't think I can ever overcome that trauma...).

Also one thing I really hated about Deception was how easily all the grown ups condemed Gillian and Nick as brutal "killers". Nick was fighting for something he believed was right, it was a stupid way he chose, but still condeming him so feels too hypocritical, especially for 2 people who served in the military... and fought in the first contact war...
And maybe that correlates with the lack of mentioning Gillians autism, but really Kahlee and Andersons thoughts when they see the vid of Gillian killing Aria's Asari are so stupidly over the top. They never consider her being attacked first, the vid faked or that she maybe was provoked (much like Nick did in Acension), no... their little girl now is a "killer".

This is also what I really hated about the Hendel and Nick scenes. Hendel, who has always had a soft spot for biotic "kids" (and few in the Underground were really more then that), just jumps in throws a Singularity and headshots two young girls. I mean, what the hell? How about trying to make them surrender or something? Sure a lot of them were rather stupid but they weren't mass murderes to be executed on the spot, especially if you have the means to detain them non-lethally.

I am also sure that Aria is 1) not such a cold hearted ****, that would have killed everyone in the hideout, 2) not so stupid to waste so many talented biotics, when she could recrute them.
Sure, the leaders would have to be killed to state an example, but the rest?
Aria is not emotional most of the time (quote: "I have no time for hate") she is rational and there was no rational gain and only a bit of satisfaction for her by staging a bloodbath.

So well... I really see too many errors in plot, lore and characterisation for this book to become good with a few corrections, but I know Bioware is a great company, so I will be open about it.
If you rewrite the "toothbrush" and let Gillian live (which seems to be something most people want, at least from the posts I read) that will already make me much happier.
She doesn't have to win against Kai Leng, but he doesn't have to succeed killing her as well (he can fail once in a time I find, makes him more believable... even Bond fails now and then). After all we have seen a very dear and special turian badly wounded by a gunship's turret (which does a little more damage then a sharpend toothbrush, I would think) and still he lives.
I mean what rewriting would that take? 5 pages? I'd gladly volunteer to do it.

I know its only been three days, but I would like Bioware to make a more general announcement soon; like what they mean about fixing some errors, if they still plan on sticking to the inane drivel that Dietz called a plot, if they plan on keeping the same "Author," etc.

Maybe on tuesday?

Gillian is powerful, but not very smart (she never was).
Kahlee is just a normal human, but she's extremely intelligent.

I'd much rather have Kahlee help me out with the Reaper than Gillian.

Guys, you were not around the Deception Discussion thread when that video even occurred. You don't even know why exactly the video exists.
You're dissing on Khran for burning the book - but in reality, he wanted to burn it anyways, as he wouldn't give such a **** book to anyone (either because it would make them hate Mass Effect before even knowing what it is, or start them being concerned about how bad it will become with such qualtiy made), and to make sure no one would get it because it's just a plague for the entire franchise as a whole, and as a book in general - he decided he should purge it with fire.
It was not his own original idea to record it - they just decided that it would be a convenient way of sending the message if he was going to burn it anyways.

Now, stop the hate.

What I don't get is that BioWare hired Dietz to write the book. his other work that I've read is Halo: The Flood, and that one was terrible. Not as bad as Deception, mind you; I'm guessing Bungie was hovering over his shoulder most of the time, making sure he didn't blatantly ignore established canon. But it was definitely not on par with Eric Nylund's or Drew Karpyshyn's work. They should've had at least someone from the Mass Effect team--or even a dedicated fan--to have some control over the story creation for Deception.

Their own writers were presumably busy writing games, or simply not novel writers

While really good authors don't want to do computer game tie in books.
