And though I like my literature complex, compelling, and perhaps a bit whimsical, I think I'll read it anyway, if only to say I did and allowing me to comment on it more fully. Though if half of what I've heard about this train-wreck of literary prose is correct, then it'll probably make me laugh and cry at the same time. Kai Leng stealing cereal? Really? I can't decide whether that's hilarious or idiotic.
Well, I'll go get started. If I'm not back in six hours, assume I went mad in my attempt to read what sounds like an absolute minefield of ludicrousness. Peace yo.

Noticed Dietz has been tooting his own horn on twitter again... Its like he is oblivious to the international backlash this novel has recieved.
He's just trying to sell it - after all, you have to make a living somehow.
Maybe he should try writing books, I hear that works.

As evidence shows, it apparently really doesn't. :innocent:

If it wasn't so surreal, I wouldn't bother with the comics.

And I commend you on your awesome comics. I keep this thread bookmarked so I can see your new installments. Every one of them has had me laughing out loud, followed by a session of crying in the shower in the fetal position.LumpOfCole wrote...

So apparently, Grayson grabbed footage of himself being turned into a Husk by Cerberus (HOW????), loaded it on a locket, only to give it to Gillian who was impossible to give anything to, since she was on ship far far away.
Also, Grayson was possessed by the Reapers at that point, but they apparently didn't mind him doing all this.
This book is full of stupid.
The only thing this tells you is what you probably already know. Cerberus is building an army of Graysons. Kai is going to get an upgrade. The Leader of the Biotic Underground has escape for future use. And all the book characters have been assassinated, besides Sanders.
I also hope Sanders and Anderson don't have kids. Because they're clearly can't do anything without two kids running out on them, and being unable to find them till they're dead.

I was being sarcastic; because despite him selling pieces of paper with words on them, I could never consider them books.

But cripes alive if it wasn't as terrible and idiotic as everyone said it was. It was a cargo-load of wasted time and stupidity, plus bad uninteresting writing to boot. Nothing important happened, so very much made no sense, and the inaccuracies. Oh god the inaccuracies! I had to swallow vomit each time I turned the page and surged vainly onward. Ick, I feel sullied and dirty now.
Truly, this was a mistake of nature, brought into existence by some hideous soul-sapping force from beyond to torment us all. That is the only explanation that seems plausible as Bioware surely wouldn't let such a tragedy take place. Otherwise, how could this monstrosity be allowed? I ask you? How? Someone answer me damn-it!

With all due honesty, I can't but think of this.
And although it's originally a joke, I think those books would actually be of better qualify than this.

I too have just finished this disaster of a book. And in truth I was holding out a feeble hope that all of the negative hype, all the trash-talking, all of the scorn directed its way was somehow exaggerated by overzealous fans, allowing a slim hope for a descent narrative to shine through.

Well, at least the critiques are well-written.
I seriously wonder why he was writing the 'book' (or how he's a "best-seller author" to begin with) considering there are so many people here on BSN who can write with more cohesion and versatility in thirty seconds.

It was simple accident. BIOWARE unfortunately didn't see connection between these two hearth attacks and one jumper in their editing office, and when last living editor (who was later arrested and sent to Arkham after bombing cereal company, then dancing in fake Hydra armor in burning ruins and crying "I will starve you to death, Kai Leng!") told them that Deception is great, they believed him.

Now I am just unhappy by the entire plot of three books built up to a whole bunch of good guys going the way of Nihlus just so we can be told that Kai Leng is a "badass" which anyone who read Retribution knew already. Thanks to the last chapter in this book, I walked away for the first time with anything having to do with the mass effect series feeling unmotivated and depressed. I need ME3 to come so I can wash this horrible taste from my mouth.

Also, I felt that Gillian was accurately portrayed as autistic. Her motivations and inner monologue were in keeping with how I think a higher functioning autistic would be. However, every other character in the entire book also thinks and behaves as a higher functioning autistic, so maybe that was just accident.
Overall, I wouldn't give it 1 star. Maybe 1.5, 2 max. Also, I'd rather put out a cigarette on my face than read this book or any other by Dietz again.

The issue with Gillian is more that her autism is never referenced in any way. The closest she comes to it is mentioning that she had anger issues when she was younger. Which makes it sound like a phase she grew out of.ParagonGreg wrote...
I just finished it. I don't think it's as bad as everyone says. It's still, very much, really quite bad, but I've read worse books. Better books, too. Many many better books.

Agreed. I wonder if Dietz even knew.
