The other direction is that she really was cured by the last drug they gave her, and some Pro-Cerberus fans have put up in defense. That's another possibility that could be used.

The one that stopped her heart?

Yeah.

But even so, autistic or not, she's a person who has never been in a society outside the Fleet and her school. And seems to be not shy at all, and has a clear understanding on how to get around.

You could probably handwave it by sayng she became less shy after interacting for 3 years with the Quarians, and watched enough vids to get a understanding on how to get around. But that's all it'd be. Handwaving.

It's again something that needs real development and explaining, then just a quick fix to justify it.

It's been a long time since I visited this thread.

We have news on when the new edition will be released?

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if it's never announced when it's released, and just thown out there like new editions to the Star Wars movies. Where you'll only know what's different when you compare.

Mass Effect fans have been asking for a comment on recent concerns over Mass Effect: Deception. We have been listening and have the below response on the issue.

The teams at Del Rey and BioWare would like to extend our sincerest apologies to the Mass Effect fans for any errors and oversights made in the recent novel Mass Effect: Deception.  We are currently working on a number of changes that will appear in future editions of the novel.

We would like to thank all Mass Effect fans for their passion and dedication to this ever-growing world, and assure them that we are listening and taking this matter very seriously.

It seems that had they taken the matter of the book seriously from the get-go, this wouldn't be necessary. Sometimes I think the folks working on these things just have an incredible set of blinders on and since everyone else working with them has blinders on, no one tells them to stop and take a minute to really check these things out before they let the euphoria of the 'awesomness' overtake them.

That or it was a simple matter of cashing a check. Only the author, publisher, Casey Hudsen, etc know for sure.

Cole, Mr. Lump-of: You. Are. Incredible. Just one of your comic holds more character than any number of Dietz's pages, and make me laugh more with each issue. Thank you.

Oh! And about Gillian's autism; the drugs *might* have made it worse, but certainly did not cause it, and while she could get better, she would never recover to that extent, at least not that quickly. I know this has already been covered a few times pages back, but its pretty clear that this new Gillian is very much like the new Kai Leng sent to kill her:

Not the same.

Barla Von's expressions are hilarious. The best thing to come out of this abortion of a novel is your comic.

Like I said, it seems more likely the autism was just more of an effect of drugs then a real condition. The Academy probably had her registered as autistic.

It always seemed more to me that the drugs started after she was diagnosed.

Even so, it's unnamed as the expert said. Could it had been something that could have been solved, but Cerberus didn't care and made it worse? The book makes many notes on that possibility.

But there is one problem with this. Cerberus wanted Gillian in Ascension project and she was nearly refused for her mental state. If Cerberus was responsibele for this or could make it better, they will simply stop with their experiments or help her so she could be accepted to project. The experiments would start later when she got safely on academy.

That's explainable. With Gillian's condition, whatever it was, can't be ignored. You could easily tell something is wrong with her. So it's not like that could send her to the Ascension program without stating that "this girl is special".

Cerberus doesn't stop experiments if they give results. The goal for them was to unlock more power. And as the book states, she was becoming less of a biotic instead of better. Which is why they sent her to a school. They don't care about making her better mentally. They just care that she's able to tap into more of her power.

Which is why Jiro continued to experiment after she had a huge episode.

Have they clarified how they are updating this book? Because bad continuity is the least of their worries.

Kahlee, Anderson, nick, Gillian, Cerberus, Illusive Man, Kai Leng, Aria, Biotic Underground....etc.

Non of these individuals accomplished their objectives, and if one was accomplished it was by happenstance not related to the group that wanted it accomplished, and treated as an aside with no significance.

There is a scene where Nick and Himdel meet in the penultimate chapter that would have had me laughing rather than angry if I had not enjoyed the previous books so much.

The scene and it's resolution literally lasts for a fifth of a page on my iPad with the fact these characters have history together is treated like fan fiction window dressing

They've given their 'appology', the next printing of the book (which may never happen), will contain a few corrections, but likely nothing major.

Basically, they spoke out to shut us up, and are going to do the bare minimum to make this thing go away.

All they had to do was release a statement, and now the furor has died down.  In a few weeks ME3 will drop and everyone will have forgotten about the book anyway.

Can Kai stay a cereal killer?

There were ways to write that scene in such a way as to make Leng appear as the irreverent badass he was clearly intended to be instead of the voyueristic creep he came off to be... Unless ofc Dietz really was going for the ambigiously gay villian trope.

The sense of deliberateness was missing. It would've been as simple as making it part of Leng's MO to deliberately leave some creatively bizarre calling card after every job instead of some random flight of fancy.

I can't believe Anderson said what he said while Gillian's dying.
She's dead in front of Sanders, and she's like "Damn, damn, damn". And Anderson says, "Yeah, what a waste".
HOW COULD YOU SAY THAT!?!?
"Oh, no. She's dead!"
"Yeah, what a waste".

I think everyone thought pretty much the same. WTF is going on, the girl, ups woman Sanders, Anderson and Hendel did search for the past days/weeks is lying dead in front of those two and those are they words they speak...

I would show more compassion to a complete nobody than what Dietz made them say. It's unbelievable how much BW did spit on their own lore with that abomination. Killing off one of the most promising character of the book trilogy for nothing at all.:o

Will keep thinking of it as a alternate/non-canon story.

Being an "adrenaline junkie" could mean anything when the subject is referring to himself as such - which is how I remember the narrative being written.

Anyway, it's not like I didn't understand what Dietz (probably) really meant, I was just nitpicking his writing style... which portrayed what could've been an awesome scene into a ridiculous one.

A honest question to BW: Did anyone proof-read it and who's is the person responsible for what was okay and what was not to do with the character/plot?

"Finished my final review of the #MassEffect Deception novel. A really fun lead-in to #ME3! Kai Leng is a badass. January 31 release."

And you didn't see a single mistake huh!?

I wonder if there is a point in the game where shepard kills a random person with no fanfare and it turns out to be a former crewmember's fiance who the person had only been dating for at least 15 days.

I really think he just checked the cover art and left it at that.
And checked that there were letters in the book turning the pages really fast.
Considering pretty much anyone can tell from three sentences total that this book is bad and it will only get worse, I truly doubt they read anything in this.

That actually is a stretch.  Her condition rendered her near unable to access her biotics at all.  If they cared about her tapping into her power and the drugs were stopping that, it doesn't make sense that they'd continue.

After reading the last few pages here and seeing everyone say "didn't anyone at BW Proof read this"  I first came up with this idea after I read the book, and I posted it here but it's worth it again.

Deitz's acknowledgements to "Casey Hudson and Mac Walters for their advice and guidance"

I'm imaging Some office person coming in and saying the following to Hudson and Walters "There is a Mr Deitz here about the ME novel he'd like some of your advice and guidance"
To which Hudson and Walters look up from their screens and both reply "Can it wait a bit I'm in the middle of some calibrations?"
the Office person: "I'll just tell him that he's doing a fine job and it's looking good"
Hudson and Walters reply "I really need to get back to cleaning this engine"

There you have it

I was wondering if the new rage comic would hit tonight, I kept checking every half hour and I thank you sir.
