Mass Effect Deception - Rage Comic Edition :: Chapter 11 (Part 2)

I love these rage comics, but is it just me, or is the actual story getting even dumber than before?
I think it's making me cringe.

If you break the story down into it's most basic form it still makes no sense.

Dietz is a bad writer.

God, I love the rage comics. They are... such an acurate display of what is really going on in this book, it is terrifying. Can't wait for Kay Lengs "most dangerous weapon".^^

You know, I have been thinking about the question, if Dietz actually read the other books he was SUPPOSED to write a conclusion to. And I think the most obvious display of him not reading them is that awful scene (on Gillians non-existet necklace) of Paul being transformed by living tubes and hoses while screaming for his death.
No matter how little you know about the lore and no matter how bad a writer you are, there is no way to read this scene into what was really going on in Retribution. There is no way to see "living hoses" where it had been nano-technology.

I think, above everything else, this lazyness is what really gets me angry. I can accept mistakes with a lore as complex as the ME lore, I can even understand that not all writers know how to write good stories and thus have to commit random acts of violence and murder to have their "evil" antagonists seem "very evil", but I can and will not accept a writer who was SUPPOSED to write a conclusion to a beautiful story and deliberately ignores the plot of said beautiful story.
That is not just bad writing, that is an insult to the intelligence of the reader of the previous books...

Hell... now I'm angry and sad again. "I'm feeling grief for [the ME-novels]. I can't seem to control it. I wish to do more violence." Anyone who can borrow me a toothbrush? Also, whoever can tell me where this quote is taken from, gets a cookie^^

I would really like to know what Bioware is intending to do with the book, simple corrections are just not gonna be sufficent in my eyes, I think.
Not, that I don't want Mr. Karpyshyn to write for TOR (as I want his talents there as well), but we really need someone who can get this right from scratch.
For example, I found the books on Resident Evil by S.D. Perry very well written and overall very lore-acurate (she obviously did play the games before writing and obviously knew what she was writing about).
So if your looking for a good writer she might be worth a thought. Even though it will obviously take her a while to get into the lore, if she is not yet familiar with ME, I am sure she can do a great job.

Another lady who may work is Karen Travis she wrote all the Gears of War Novels and she did a great job with the character development. Which was the only place that character development happened for Gears,
Dietz has a thing about eating, Kai Leng enjoys to eat: Mexican Food, Tacos and Enchiladas, Salarain Curry (forget that he is an alien hating scum those salarians make good Curry), and of course Cereal, I probably missed a few things.
Hendel and some kid enjoy pancakes
Kaylee and Anderson enjoy breakfast, sex, then have dinner before starting their day.
Yeah Dietz has a thing about food.
Did I mention Kai Leng and Cereal? I'd say that will be the most lasting thing from this book. Fans who play ME3 and meet Kai Leng may not ever get the Cereal thing.
Oh Well
I enjoy these Comics, just wondered why you didn't put in there that Ugho the Quorian who died two books ago came back to life only to die again. Probably a time or space issue no big deal I just thought that was a big funny

My theory is beginning to be that we don't actually kill Kai Leng in Mass Effect 3, but he runs off at the last moment to star in the DLC "The Hunt for Kai Leng" or something similar.

From what I recall, that author has a bit of a... reputation. She used to write Star Wars novels with a focus on Mandalorians, expanding their background but also ended up idealizing them to the point of absurd (showing them as superior to every other being in the galaxy, as "acknowledged" by Jedi themselves, for one); and reacted to fan protests by comparing die-hard fans to terrorists, basically. Needless to say, it didn't go too well from there. Eventually she moved on, and her "pet faction" was cut back down to size with numerous retcons. I heard she immediately created another idealized faction within GoW universe, as well...

It's established at this point that Deception fails as both a tie-in as well as a novel, period, but I would be kind of worried what could come from Traviss writing a ME book. Another militaristic faction with a cool name, like, say, Blue Suns elevated to invincible saviors of the galaxy, that even Spectres look up to, perhaps?

I really loved what Travis did in the Gears novels and I've been a big Gear Head since E3 2006 (god that was an epic year),  She did more for that universe than Cliff and Epic did for their characters.
I do see your point and considered posting it because I had heard about some of the Star Wars stuff.

I think BW should just scrap Deception and find someone to write a different novel that takes place when Deception does. It was so bad that starting from sratch I think is the best way to go.

Like I said, it seems more likely the autism was just more of an effect of drugs then a real condition. The Academy probably had her registered as autistic.

It always seemed more to me that the drugs started after she was diagnosed.

Even so, it's unnamed as the expert said. Could it had been something that could have been solved, but Cerberus didn't care and made it worse? The book makes many notes on that possibility.

But there is one problem with this. Cerberus wanted Gillian in Ascension project and she was nearly refused for her mental state. If Cerberus was responsibele for this or could make it better, they will simply stop with their experiments or help her so she could be accepted to project. The experiments would start later when she got safely on academy.

That's explainable. With Gillian's condition, whatever it was, can't be ignored. You could easily tell something is wrong with her. So it's not like that could send her to the Ascension program without stating that "this girl is special".

Cerberus doesn't stop experiments if they give results. The goal for them was to unlock more power. And as the book states, she was becoming less of a biotic instead of better. Which is why they sent her to a school. They don't care about making her better mentally. They just care that she's able to tap into more of her power.

Which is why Jiro continued to experiment after she had a huge episode.

That actually is a stretch.  Her condition rendered her near unable to access her biotics at all.  If they cared about her tapping into her power and the drugs were stopping that, it doesn't make sense that they'd continue.

What's best doesn't matter.

A better solution would be not to test on her at all, and start again with a different subject like Nick, who's a more trained biotic and isn't autistic in anyway. And done in their own station, under their control.

Instead, they continued to test on a Biotic who was already becoming a weaker biotic, as well as autistic. And put her in a school they had no control over, getting final results days after the fact. They even had her raised by a drug addict/unstable man. And when they do get results, their only inside man decides to do another experiment right after she had an episode, while still in the school. Not thinking he'd possible get in trouble even if things did go well. All because he's excited, and can't wait.

Well, I know Dietz read the books in some shape or form. Mainly because some descriptions are copied and pasted from past books. Or written too similar.

However, I bet he wrote this book A) while also writing other projects, and doing whatever he needed to do for them. And B) While skimming the three other books in different orders. And C) While also playing the games as he claims.

Looking at his page and others, he has written "A Fighting Chance" and "Resistance: A Hole in the Sky" in 2011 (As well as Mass Effect: Deception). Plus writing the Resistance: Burning Skies for PS Vita, and Legend of the Damned for iOS devices. And "Star Craft: Heaven's Devil", "Bones of an Empire" in 2010.

Yes, I must agree with this. And I think that he has one more problem - he probably too much relies on editors work. I don't speak only about Lore editor, but also about text himslef. You can saw this for example on mistakes in names of characters. I have a suspicion, that this is how his book mostly looks (meaning style and grammar) before some editor make some hard work on them.

Exactly... :(

Here I was hoping for Bioware to watch over their IP a bit more closely. I saw the Legenedary Picture ME Movie FAQ changed drastically too.

My friend Randy and I were discussing what would happen if Dietz wrote a tie-in to another popular BioWare series.

Good new for Dietz once ME3 comes out people will be able to excuses his butchering as the work of an outsider unlike BW's own in house butchering.

BW will get a horde of negative feedback from the fans due to BW's definition of "A no hold bared epic conclusion for all fans of ME. Fans will have a satisfying conclusion to there own ME experience and the relationships they've developed with the characters"

I hope I'm wrong but it's just a sign that I can somehow hope for the best when the worst is sure to come.
It's a sliver of hope and likely false hope.

Man, seeing how the plot is "advancing", I don't think fixing the book is possible without actually just writing another one. The plot itself is an outrage.

I find your lack of faith in Bioware disturbing.

Just make sure DREW writes deception 2.0
And dont let that Dietz EVER come near anything in ME universe.
and thanks for having such huge buildup with gilligan to have her DIE instead of, as i had hoped, get to see her in ME3..

I just died a little.

http://drewkarpyshyn...?p=369#more-369

So Drew writing Deception is probably a no-no. At least we still have rage comics to fill the void.

Seriously, I remember Dietz saying we should read the whole book before complaining.
I think it's just making it worse.
