That's what I expected all along. The whole "we'll fix it on the next printing" is sort of silly to begin with, because it makes no sense to reprint a book that has had this kind of negative reaction.

Since it's contradicts some of the events of ME Invasion comic and so some of things leading into ME3 I think this might actually be a good time to drop this thing from canon.

What surprises me the most is that incompetent writers actually can write "garbage" without anyone noticing it before they printed the book, and distributed it. This is the first time this ever happen to me when i purchased a novel based upon a successful game, such as star wars, or World of warcraft, neither in these books there are false information, BS, and descriptions that don't describe the mass effect universe he wrote about. I hope these accidents don't happen again in the future and i think we should give the author another chance and see if he is serious and i will gladly purchase another book.

By his own criteria, which he gave to us freely, Dietz did a terrible job. He does not deserve another chance.

Well I'm not going to sugercoat it but... WE DON"T WANT DIETZ BACK. Sorry if it was to blunt. But I read a little of it and it's just too horrible beyond comprehension.

Oh i did not dare to accuse him because of the new forum rules, but afther i reed them again i found out that it dont apply for his standing, yeha i dont want him to write another book either, but i dont want to express my opinion to crude i do not wish to get in trubble for having opinions about him on the forums :D

Oh people have already dropped it  as canon. Just saying that your not the first.

I'm actually one of those who started the whole errata list. I haven't followed the thread for some time, but the problem is that some people are going to read this, they are going to ask about happenings and things like "why didn't Aria do that, if she is a biotic?"

There is ME Wiki that documents things for fans, maintains time line and so and on. Wiki guys are going to need a very good reason to drop Deception, or put it in fan fiction category.

I think situation where we have statement from BioWare that Deception is going to change automatically puts it into non-canon status. If we are lucky, it stays in the limbo, and Wiki and everyone else can pass the whole thing as fan fiction or something and there won't be need to argue about contradictions with other lore on forums.

Yeah, one way to see that. I'm not saying how anybody should deal with this, just that there is an opportunity.

Ok, finished this today and story was fine. I can understand the ending pissing people off, but that's subjective. What the re-edit needs to do: correct the lore, but most importantly, rewrite Gillian so either she's more in character from the prior books, or explain her miraculous recovery from being a savant type person! That was the one glaring issue I had - the rest are easy fixes

That says: the re-edit or re-write will speak VOLUMES as to the level of attention that it eithers gets, or does not. Things happen - this book had a lot of mistakes, for sure. Its how you deal with those mistakes that speaks volumes. If Gillian is the same, and they just fix the lore issues, i'll call it a half hearted fix; if Gillian is rewritten to be more in tune to herself previously, well, that's what I am hoping for.

And then have it rewritten by a competent writer? One who can write at something a tad higher then a 4th grade level? That's my other suggestion.

Please, the book was not poorly written from the pov of grammar, syntax and the like - you are just pissed off that Deitz took a paycheck and didnt' do his research, which I get

No, I'm actually able to completely compartmentalize those issues and look at the book objectively. It really is poorly written. I said so in my review on Amazon. You are certainly welcome to disagree, but my opinion is valid if yours is.

Showing the book to folks who are unaware about the lore errors would likely net you the same opinion. It's quite poorly written.

Well, you are entitled to your opinion, of course. I thought (myself) Deitz's actual writing style was on par with Drew Karpyshyn. I did find the mischaracterization of Gillian a mistake that another writer should not have missed.

Drew's first book is not particularly well written. The next two increase in quality. Dietz is nowhere near that.

Anyways, having argued this subject to death and beyond weeks ago, I'm not to keen on doing it again.

We made enough noise to get an official response, and I don't see things ever going any further then that. No real need to reprint a book that is just sitting on shelves and in warehouses.

I agree, I was just putting my 2 cents in. That said, I wished D.K had written this novel. I loved his first three ME books and it felt wrong that another writer ended his creations in the way this novel did.

See you online, man! Group hug!

We have reached consensus. All higher order processes in agreement. Drew Karpyshan should never have left Mass Effect. We would all be better off if he had not.

Just read about 1/4 of Deception...literally painful to digest at first...but it does get a bit palatable once your senses are numbed

My greatest problem with Deception's language is that it somewhat sounds like as if I had written the whole thing. Which is just terrible, because I have absolutely no affinity for "writing" in general, and I'm not even a native English speaker.
And yet, I still would have done less grammar mistakes than that guy.

...but who cares, the Rage Comics supplement us for all our suffering :D

Hmm, can't seem to save the Rage Comic from 0 to 3-2. The rest save fine, just not those first ones. Anyone else had the same issue? Oh, and i'm loading them properly, by pressing return once they initially fail.

They 'save' and have a proper file size, but they won't open.

Edit: Worked around the issue by copying them into a 'new' image in photoshop, and saving them that way. Will leave the post as is however incase others have problems.

I just didn't like it. I would be prepared to let some consistency errors pass but the whole thing read badly. The plot, the action scenes, the characters and how they spoke, their thoughts and how they arrived at decisions on what to do. It was well below the standard of all other mass effect material I have seen, including the other novels. Very disappointed.

I saw it mentioned on IGN yesterday that the books are referenced, was anyone so ruined by deception that they wish they hadn't read anytime avoid the rage when being reminded of certain events in deception?
