is the book even confirmed canon?

It doesn't work that way. Products that have a story in universe are canon by default.

um ok im still confused by that

i guess what im asking is the events that take place in the book does that in any way affect whos in and whos out in mass effect 3?

i didnt read it but i did hear all the spoilers and i am just curious because i didnt hear anything of gillian or hendal in the game

Well, there is that thing I mentioned earlier. I suppose Andersson telling Shepard that he met Leng on Omega was supposed to be a tie in to Deception, but in the novel Andersson never met Leng on Omega, so...

Seems Bioware/EA has quite a few issues in regards to the late stages of the ME-franchise .. book, import issues, etc. Somehow I kind of think that "changing the book" is the last thing on their mind right now. Shame as I was interested in the book, while non of them were stellar in regards to writing, however I still really enjoyed them. They were a good read.

I was looking forward to see what a different, known author would do for the ME universe.

One would have to wonder how that got passed the editors etc. so.

Maybe they should've focused all the time, effort and resources spent on MP, Kinect, Books/comics and iOS games on the actual game instead. ME3 was very good, but it has some serious issues. A great example of a company that tries too much, and fails to focus on what they do best. A bit sad, really.

[sarcasm] no no no ... nothing of the things mentioned does influence the awesome single player game that is ME3 in any way, shape or form[/sarcasm]
.. sorry sometimes it I can't resist ... not that I have any sense of humour whatsoever. :innocent:

Man, the first three months of this year turned out to be a nightmare for BioWare. First the whole Deception fiasco, now the ME3 ending.

Don't forget the live action trailer, millions spent advertising during the most watched show ever, on cable(The Walking Dead), gobs and gobs of money spent on marketing, etc...

Must have been so much that they ran out of money to hire an artist to reveal Tali or write an ending. I mean it's not like there are dozens and dozens of professionally done representations of Tali online or anythi....no wait.

Actually, your sarcasim is right. :P at least in the case of the iOS games, as they're done by a completely different studio, much like the older iOS game about Jacob was done by a different studio. Same thing goes for the Dragon Age FB games, etc. The multiplayer was also a separate team, if memory serves. Naturally, that could all be just damage control and hot air coming from the dev team to reassure us, but I'm inclined to give them the benefit of the doubt. :D
Regardless, EA unfortunately wouldn't let them focus on just the game, as EA wants a franchise, not a game, out of bioware. That's 90% of the problems with DA2, and it's at least 90% of the problems with ME2 and at least a few of the problems in ME3.

Any word on the 2nd edition?

If we are lucky there won't be second edition. When BioWare told us that there would be second edition that opened a possibility to drop Deception in it's current form from canon. Now when there is one more contradiction with the games revealed, Anderson saying that he met Leng in Omega when he didn't, people can even imagine that Gillian is still alive in some Quarian exploring the dark space.

Question: I just can't get myself toplay ME3 again so does anyone remember if there was any mention of Nick Donahue in the game?

I don't remember any references, no.

edit: to Donahue, that is.

No reference to Nick at all. Other than Kahlee Sanders and Kai Leing, the only other novel character referenced in Mass Effect 3 was Paul Grayson.

Bottom line here is: They delivered a crap product and they stood behind it untill the poohurricane became too great. Then they promised change and then... NOTHING!

Dont tell me there hasnt been a single development in this case and that it wasnt worthy of mention here. They could have kept us in the loop. They did infact ignore us. The fans that bought the novels are now the laughing stock of Bioware. Their efforts to bring this crap to the attention of Bioware in vain. Because they said they were "Listening". And then did nothing.

Arent you all the fools? And didnt you all get conned? And you accept this? Really? I wouldnt. I do not!

Fix your crap bioware. Fix it and let us know what you intend to do to make it better. And do it now. You have had a month. And we gave you time. We gave you pardon. You pissed all over it.

Grats.

Lol, Why hate Deception, the book was more farce than novel. I mean, Kei leng, Cerial thief and Toothbrush murderer?

I'd rather read this crappy book, laugh at it 100 times in a row, rather than have the bad ME3 endings.

Because its so inane it insults your intelligence so hard you see it as a farce rather than a proper novel? Much like the ME3? Because bioware thinks we are THAT stupid?

Now we just need an apology like this for the game and we're on the path to healing.

It's honestly better to just drop it. Not only does ME3 contradict it's existence, as well as other horrible errors, but it's just a bad book period. You're better off forgetting about it, and considering it as non-canon.

Thanks. So fate of Nick is up for anyone to speculate if we can just ignore Deception.

Well, in-game, Sanders explains that most of the students were sent home when the Reapers invaded, expect for those who could put up a fight. ME3 starts about six months after ME2, and Retribution is several months after ME2. Assuming he doesn't just spontaneously heal and age three years, Nick could easily have been sent home because of his injuries.

...But given the events of the ending, it really sucks to be the Idenna crew. ;(

Too bad in Mass Effect 3 Leng speaks just like how I imagined him to in Deception. I swear the cereal would be whipped out any minute with a toothbrush being used as a spoon.

I still liked Leng, don't get me wrong. But something rubbed off.

Otherwise though, there were plenty of contradictions to ignore most of that book, not that there weren't enough already.

I also agree with that the ME3 endings do not belong in here. There are plenty of rage, ReTake, and IT threads, with everything above, below, and between present on the forums on that very subject.

Damn, I could swear I saw snack & pop (something) somewhere in the Citadel but couldn't find anything from youtube regarding it. Maybe I was just tired, I tried to find whatever time I was able to play the game.

What MasterEcabob hinted in his post made me wonder if it would be a good move to wait couple of months for Deception 2nd. ed. (that I don't think will come) and then create a new topic for alternate endings for Gillian and Nick.

Just finished Deception. WOW!

It reads like a bad fanfiction. Batarian Embassy!?!?!?!? Did anyone think to QC?
