Simple fix would be to just declare it non-canon. If the new version is never published then we can just pretend the novel never happened, and hopefully future novels/comics/games/etc will do the same.

Same with the ME3 ending ;)

It's not so simple, I'm afraid, as ME3's Kai Leng is Deception's Kai Leng, not Retribution's. An operatic ineffectual mustache-twirling villain that kills the undefended, not a cold-hearted ruthless killer that kills because he LIKES it. A dude that, in full combat gear and all, cannot kill a terminally ill drell, not the dude that slew a turian spec ops unit with just a knife wearing only his drawers.

This would require re-doing a significant bit of railroaded and heavily cutscenified section of ME3's plot from the ground up. Something BioWare has already flat-out refused to do with a much hotter issue of the ending, so I'm afraid we'll have to file this one under "not gonna happen".

There isn't going to be a new version.

It was released solely to ride on the hype of ME3. There is nothing left to hype up so releasing a 'new' franchise book without free marketing just isn't worth the effort.

Even if there was, the problems with the book couldn't be fixed with a little red ink so it was always going to take months of rewriting plus the months to republish it.

This person has the answer.

You are naive to think otherwise. Why would they want to waste money on re-writing the book? They already have your cash when you brought it.

Think of this as punishment for those that brought material outside the games and under a different author, you should of never brought it in the first place.

LoL, when I am looking at that, than i realized the whole cereal plot of Kai was build on slopy work :? maybe he could be even good if they don´t wrote Deception :police:

@iamthedave3 - Are you people still throwing that around? Guess some people are going to hold onto THAT fad for a while.

True. It's a damn shame. At least in Deception he was so ridiculous that it started being entertaining, while in ME3... well, still a no-spoiler forum, but we know about his cut-scene induced achievements...

So... I went into a Barnes and Noble a couple of days ago and saw this book still on the shelves.

I asked if they had any information about the new version and got a bunch of blank looks. Apparently there is still no information in the system.

I pretty much guessed that would be the case.

Heh. Glad to know fan feedback is working well here.

At least a responce admitting to a problem was made. Even if its clear nothing is going to be done about it.

cant say im surprised while we did have an acknowledgment of problems there was never a recall. Simply put they know there are problems and there may be a re-write a some point in the future but right now it costs to much. With little to no chance of them being sued they will just sell through current inventory probably just let the book die.

Any updates on when the revision will be released? I know it's a massive undertaking, but I'd still like to see it.

At this point, with the lack of information they have released on it, I honestly doubt they will do it.

I'm starting to feel the initial statement by them was more damage control than something they could actually follow up on.

They should have made a callback of the original books if they had been sincere in fixing the issue.

I'm hoping you can use the current book as a coupon for the reprint.

Ohhh I can't wait for Mass Effect: Deception extended cut!! Now with more context around the character and lore "developments" which should provide more closure.

Is this seriously the new business strategy?

Develop a product to a big franchise

Add in errors and inconsistencies to that product

wait for negative reaction

Release "Revised Edition" available to purchase/acquire again

Profit?...

Maybe it is the free marketing? No such thing as bad press...

I mean it is like they are TRYING to kill the ME franchise sometimes. I feel really bad for the Mods and worse for the fans. Is there any way we can go back to the way things were around March 5th 2012? What would it take?

Seeing what happened with Deception got me worried about ME3...Seems pretty logical now.

The silence on this issue is somewhat deafening. There isn't much chance they'll keep true to their word about this. Otherwise the actual bookstores would know something rather than no information being dispersed to them whatsoever.

I've been in some Barnes and Nobles that have actually received more copies of Deception recently. The original Deception.

It seems like some people don't notice that small contraversaries happen all the time especially when something is created for millions of people.  You shouldn't forget that Bioware isn't the Publisher just like how the other Gaming Companies handle their franchises including Microsoft with Halo, Epic with Unreal/Gears, Capcom with Resident Evil, and Starcraft/Warcraft/Diablo with Blizzard.  Other examples are Star Wars, Star Trek, DnD, and Warhammer.
