Actually, I had a conversation about Deception with Chris Hepler at Comic Con.

He said they are indeed in the process of fixing it. We talked about the changes to the book, and some of the things (like the dismissal of Gillian's autism) would require an extensive re-write of the book. I got the impression such an extensive re-write would require more resources and time than they had to put into it. What they are doing about the autism issue is saying that her severe symptoms were a result of the drugs Cerberus was giving her. Apparently she's still high-functioning autistic/Asperger's but they had to come up with a reason why she's more normal. I buy it, because my sister is high-functioning and she is pretty normal at 20 years old.

Though, Chris Hepler's comment on reading Deception and the part with the batarian ship was priceless: "THEY PUT A F---ING TANTALUS DRIVE CORE IN THIS???" Lol!

I never got an idea of when they'd be re-releasing the book, though.

Interesting, thank you! I hope they bring some of that information forward in a more official capacity.

Hopefully they keep in the part where Kai Leng goes around eating people's cereal. Because he's an adrenalin junkie, and there's nothing more thrilling than breaking into somebody's house to pour yourself a bowl of cereal.

Lies. Burning juice is more thrilling.

If you know how to do it.

What you did there. I see it.

I want an extra scene showing Anderson crying foul to a police officer about his cereal being stolen by Kai Leng. Lol.

No word on a fixed edition of this galactic disappointment of a novel? Somehow I'm not surprised. :(

Bioware quality control, it continues to amaze me how they can continue to lower the bar on their standards of operating, The depths by which they continue to degrade the amazing house they once built seems to be as of yet unfathomable.

I honestly have no idea how Deception could even be "patched" without scrapping it and starting over from scratch.

It's just an awful book through and through.

At least they "listened" now we can expect some half effort partial fix that doesn't solve the problems just makes them only slightly more tolerable, yet still completely unsatisfactory.

Same guy who wrote the awful Halo: the flood.

That's good to hear, athough I still don't understand why they had that guy Dietz write it in the first place. Karpyshyn wrote the first 3 books and did a great job with them, it made no sense that they had someone else do book 4. Personally I think they should just suck it up and hire Karpyshyn to completely rewrite the 4th book, but I realize that's not the best solution budget-wise. Oh well, hopefully Deception will eventually be rereleased and will be halfway decent, but I won't hold my breathe.

Maybe Karypshyn was too busy?

Passing it off to another author isn't a big deal. Both Star Trek and Star Wars have many many authors who have written fiction for those universes. Changing Author isn't the problem.

The problem is that the Author clearly had no clue about Mass Effect, the Universe, and clearly Did Not Do The Research concerning the whole thing.

And as an amateur writer myself I find that offensive. Any author/writer worth his/her salt would be ashamed to have put out the drech that was Mass Effect Deception.
Thoroughly ashamed.

It doesn't have to be Tolkien or Frank Herbert level of awesome, but if you at least make the effort, most people appreciate it. This guy obviously didn't bother. He was just looking for the cheque.

Karpyshyn worked on SW:TOR and book from this universe, Revan. He simply hadn't time for writting another ME book. And Karpyshyn now working on his first own project, some fantasy saga, so chances of hiring him are minimal.

Last two sentences would be probably and sadly right, because month before Deception or such Dietz published book from his own universe and it is obvious which book was more important to him.

I personally haven't problem with freelancers, but they must do their research. Like f.e. Golden Christie nad her Dark templars saga, which was full of refferences (and accurate, Mr. Dietz) about Starcraft games. On Deception you can see that Dietz probably played game (but not sure how long) and read previous book (but not too thoroughly). He's just using some name here and technical term there, but didn't check them. And because this wasn't his first game based book (which probably gave him this job at first place), such laziness on his side is inexcusable.

So weird to see Bioware actually admitting a mistake. If only the games that the novels are *based* on would get the same treatment...

Never read deception, but I'm glad to see that fans of the novels are getting the apparently much-needed fix.

As much as I don't want to be one of "those guys", BioWare made a huge mistake in not trying their damned best to keep Drew Karpyshyn on the staff until the end of ME3.

You'd be one of "those guys" preaching the gospel. Karpyshyn was an incredbly talent writer.

Yes he is. It's also the reason why I have not read the copy of Deception I bought when it released, as it would most likely tarnish the work he'd done with the previous novels. I think that I'll keep it aside until a rewrite is done and if one isn't, then I shall burn it sacrificially one day and post pics :)

Offering a 2nd edition was likely just an empty gesture. I'm not expecting anything from them anymore.

This book issue bothers me more than the endings of ME3.

I really wanted to believe BioWare is rewriting the whole thing but at this point I think it's only one more empty promise.
