Ok what is it about the actual gameplay that you hate?   remember no spoilers

I think the gameplay will be fine, great even. ME2 had great gameplay (when I say gameplay I mean combat) so if it is at least as good as ME2 it will be fun.

Hopefully the music is good as well.

However that isn't enough for me. I'd rather be able to get invested in the story and feel motivated and connected to my character and other characters.

I don't think that's going to happen.

The story is going to be frustrating for me, not fun.

I'd rather play Gears of War where the story is much more of a sequence of events to give us an excuse to hide behind chest-high-walls and shoot ugly scaly monsters.

Choice not doing anything is the only thing I can see some sell on what people discuss, but again it isn't to the extants some of you make it out to be.

Things you (not you specifcally) "overexaggerate"
Renegades getting punished
Cerberus being the bad guys
Bad writing from Bioware
Bad choices/moral decisions
several other things that are more case by case than general.

How do you feel we exaggerate these things? Have you read the leaked documents?

I have read and I feel you lost context but above all forgot what this series has been doing.

I feel some members here still expect to get 2-4000 games in one when that was not only foolish but unrealistic. Choice still matters, especially in how you Shepard is presented.

It is no different than ME2 in that regard. More evolved IMHO but again I recongize Bioware and EA probably oversold choice a bit too much. It still effects the galaxy and the story but not in such immensly drastic ways.

Condemning a game that hasn't even been released yet is just idiotic.

And supporting it is not?

It is a continuation of ME 1 and ME 2 and it is going to combine elements from both games.  I am excited about the story but based on gameplay footage I know I will most likely love it anyway even if the story doesn't work out like I hoped.

And leave massive plot holes and predictable, emotionless deaths?

No thanks.

I'd say either stance is illogical unless you are using grounds from previous games.

I'm of the mindset that it is completely reasonable for one to form an opinion of a game (be it positive or negative) from what has been revealed by the developers (be it intentional or unintentional).

I've never been big on ME's gameplay.

Emotionless? I don't know about you but I felt pretty bad when Ben Carmine died. He was a good kid.

Gears has its moments.

There are typically holes in gears.

I agree that you can formulate a simple and basic premise...but ultimately they are trying to sell the game. I wait for better reviews, usar input and above all my own input to get final resolution.

Marketing 101.

I thought it was up to the player to decide who lives and who doesn't ?

The possibility to have different outcomes is exactly why ME shines. If you don't want everyone to live then kill some or everyone.Pick your own version of the story.B)

Deliberately orchestrating your squad's death is not emotionally engaging.

It needs to be a suprise.

It's not a surprise once you know how the Suicide mission works, but the first time you could have people dying in a surprising way(even people who shouldn't have died; Mordin^_^).It could have been better though.(Bioware shouldn't have hinted about the Normandy upgrades so much for example)

Hopefully ME3 will have more emotional moments. There should be some seeing how it's going to be a total war.

No, Gears of War 3 does.

Gears of war 1 and 2 did until 3 came along.

Spoliers?

No death in Gears ever hit me. Dom dying was the most cliche and predictable thing in gameing I've seen. Carmine was the most engaging character and that's because everyone else was so damn 1 dimensional until the end of the 3rd game.

Maybe you have not but it is not an element you can dismiss.  Especialy with the huge improvements they made in ME 2 that they seem to be sticking with while bringing back some of the things they had in ME 1.  For 2 years people have been saying they wanted the best of ME 1 and ME 2 put together in ME 3.  And it looks like they have at least tried to do that.  Of course not everybody is going to be satisfied but it isn't like they made any radical changes just improvements and the return of some familiar features.

I felt bad for B. Carmine.

Tai wasn't around long enough for me to give a ****.

Dom was an asshoel so his death was overdue.

I felt really bad for Carmine 2 as well. I was really happy when Camine 3 ended up living.

This. At least Clayton got through Gears of War 3 in one piece. I was wondering if he would die the whole time I was playing.

AMAZING!  That's why I play Mass Effect, too!  And to think we came to completely different conclusions after reading the same script!

Oh of course. I'm sure I'll get some level of enjoyment out of it and if it's well done I'll give it the praise it's due, however it's still not a selling point for me.

If I was to buy a game for the combat I'd buy a turn-based strategy game.

No Dom was too damn whiny.

WHERE'S MY WIFE!?

Back to the topic at hand though my worst playthrough would be a game with no "golden" ending and one without a "**** stain" ending.

Sometimes I think you're posting from some weird alternate universe where people wear shoes on their heads and park in parkways.

This is another issue I have with the BSN.

They compare Bioware writing to CoD or Gears and it hurts me because it's just so wrong.

No character in ME can be refered to as Carmine 1,2 or 3 or Gaz/Ghost 1,2 and 3. They are all unique and interesting.

I'm sure she thinks the same about you.

Anyway, I agree with her. I like the script.

X-Com: UFO Defense/Enemy Unknown

I'm so freaking hyped for Enemy Unknown. Haven't played an XCOM game before but it reminds me of Fire Emblem from what I've been reading.
