Questions and answers on how Mass Effect 3 and Origin will work

Either way, a few of the previously stated questions here I would be very interested to see an official reply for, especially this: "Did Bioware have any say regarding the requirement to use Origin?" I want to know if Bioware actually had any say in that decision.
And regarding the DLC, how is it distributed? There's still been no reply to this. Will it be through Origin, or through BSN?
The reason no one actually goes to the Origin Forums with this... Well, I looked through that earlier today. There's questions, questions galore, and, as obvious in such a forum, criticism. The peculiar things were two: first of all: there's no official replies. There's a total absence of any kind of staff replying to any kinds of posts, as far as I can see there. Posting a question in the Origin forums is like throwing a letter in a bottle into a lake of saltpeter acid. You sure ain't gonna get an answer. The second peculiar thing is that there is no one even defending Origin. No staff, only criticism... The Origin Forum isn't a place to get answers. Thus, people ask here, for however little Chris may know or be allowed to tell, he's at least responding occasionally, which is a lot more than you can say about Origin.
I have to say, I'm disappointed about the entire situation. I loved ME1 and ME2. I've played through both at least 7-8 times. But I use Steam, I have 150 games or more there, and I really don't want to have to bother with multiple clients. So however much it pains me, I will have to sit and hope that Bioware and EA can come to an agreement with Steam, because otherwise I'm missing out on a great game, while Bioware and EA is missing out on my money. And this is an opinion I know many share.
To be fair, what EA saves by not paying Steam for DLCs in their store, they lose on people who won't use Origin. Plus they get a bad reputation out of it too. Not that they care, but they should, considering how huge losses EA have displayed the past two years. Just leaving the platform that handles at the very least half of the worldwide digital download sales can't be called anything but questionable.
I will just assume this post is soon joining the bunch of other deleted posts, and the questions will still not get a reply, but it was at least worth a try...

I'm not exactly thrilled I just had to call America (gave up after 40 minutes on hold for the UK support line) either, but after two attempts I did manage to get someone who knew what they were talking about. I've posted above with what he was able to give me, but basically on the privacy front, you definitely can't opt out of Origin's data collecting with the 'Privacy Controls' or any of the other Origin settings.chance52 wrote...
So I am at a loss for where to find answers and with the game getting close to release I am wondering why it is like pulling teeth to get official responses?
You can still opt out of gameplay data collection in ME3 same as the other two games as Chris already said.
If anyone else wants to call them it's 866-543-5435 (toll-free in the US apparently), from outside the US it's 001-650-628-4306 (you will be charged for calling that number).
To contact their privacy department call (001) 650-628-1393 and leave a message or you can email them using the address for your region, personally I sent an email last week and haven't had any response, so leaving a message might be more effective. You can also contact EA's CEO directly using the contact details in that link and (politely) state your case.
P.S. Still sad this thread isn't stickied

Thank you for posting and for all your efforts. Those account tips will be useful, assuming I ever install ME 3. I'm still waiting for something positive about Origin; but that's like hoping for a one page EULA written in plain language.Furtled wrote...
Okay, I just got off the phone with an incredibly helpful guy from EA's US support (not looking forward to that phone bill), anywho - some answers!
7) There's been reports of EA support handing people's accounts over to hackers/thieves (allegedly all they need is an email address and DoB – see here for details), has this issue been resolved and further if an account is compromised what steps are in place for someone to get it back?
Hope that helps.
I may call EA support as well. From a security point of view, do I start a new account and disposable email address or will I be stuck with my existing account just to keep my current DLC from getting messed up?

Will you have to sign in using Origin, then sign in with Bioware Social to get the DLC goodies for ME3?
I have both this account and a SWTOR account - 2 different email accounts - and I don't want to mess up and register my ME3 to the wrong account and not be able to access any registered DLC that is assigned to this acount already.

Worst case scenario and you do mess up, a quick ring or speaking to them (EA) on webchat they will switch it over to your other account for you. Done this myself many times in past as long as can prove own both accounts.

Except that it appears that Live Chat is where the accounts are being hacked. Birthday info is probably easy to dig up. So it means don't use Live Chat; don't use your real name in your email; make a phoney birthday (and remember it), have a disposable email address, in addition to your long password and maybe you'll be fine. Then if anything does go wrong, try to prove to Support that the fake name and fake birthday was done for security reasons? Right.Dragoonlordz wrote...

Isn't this the type of security information that EA should be broadcasting to all users?
So basically to play a single player game, I'm stuck with the security risks of an Origin account?

No, thats best case scenario. Worst case scenario is it works out like mine has and be a huge unsolvable disaster. Ive been on chats with EA support 5 times (chat support actually asked me to go post my issue on the forums instead because they couldnt resolve it), on the phone with them twice for more than an hour each, and still have an outstanding thread on their website where an EA person finally asked me to PM them with the issue and whats happened so far but still hasnt got back to me almost 3 weeks later. Right now I can log in to the same account on BSN, EA, and SWtOR with two different emails and passwords, but things like the KoA demo items wont unlock on either regardless of which I use to log in to the game (EA chat did see that I had finished the demo on both email addresses but didnt have access to the items and added them to my account so I have them now). I also cant change ANY info on either account because it apperantly exists on the other merged account.
EDIT: Spelling
EDIT: This wasnt even merging two Origin accounts mind you. This was merging a BSN account and an EA account (from pre origin) that I had been using on my PS3

He reckoned it'll run similar to BF3, so you'll launch ME3, it'll do a check and launch Origin, then it'll launch the game through Origin. You can turn the social overlay thing to silent but it will bug you with pop ups telling you Gaming's more fun with friends! and the like at regular intervals.
Wonderful. So it enhances my game experience by taking up space on my drive, using up resources, and also breaking my immersion and harrassing me?

I have a question regarding Origin - is it true that an origin account may be cancelled as per policy if not used for 24 months and thereby you loose any games associated to that account?
I can field that one!
It used to be true, but apparently isn't anymore. I think they changed it to 100 years from now or some such.

Of course EA runs the risk of improving Origin so much, people will be so entertained they won't bother buying games. And Origin is free to all PC users. Console users will be so jealous.LittleDiegito wrote...

I still dont get one thing: so if I only play single player game, do I still have to sign in to Origin every time I play or I can just run the game by itself after the initial activation?
You still have to run Origin every single time. ME3 won't run by itself. No one knows why.

So who is the person (or persons) that made the decision to make Origin mandatory for ME 3?
And what was the rationale?
If it was an EA decision, who at EA do we blame?

We do know why, because they said so.

Second question, will Origin keep storage of things such as saves, achievements, etc.? I'm tired of having to regain all my bonuses and achievements every time I have to uninstall ME1 or ME2 for technical reasons. Especially if it's the Insanity Playthrough achievement. T_T

I can answer that. No Origin does not record/keep saves etc those are all handled by the games in this case ME3.
The cloud save way of backing up saves is possible through Origin BUT not probably not for ME3 because EA (Dmex) told me that it is up to the developer if wish to use Origins backing up of saves and Bioware have not used it on their titles in the past so I think probably won't in ME3. It's something I asked about in past. Dmex I think it was who said it is up to the developer if wish to use Origin to back up saves for their games like Steam does. Though remember Dmex is third party contractor working on Origin for EA.
Achievements I believe are in the save file themselves so just make backup copy of your saves yourself for example email your save file to yourself and it should be safe in your email account if ever lose it just download it again from email. My alternative version/way of save backups.

Origin already supports cloud storage, though it's the publishers decision how they utilize it (e.g. game saves).

Just so I can know who it is I need to ~wink, wink~nudge, nudge~ in the right direction for this additional feature.
Nevermind just went back and checked.

I know how you feel, Some games should already support syncing game saves (BF3, BFBC2, Dead Space 2 and a few more), it's entirely the publishers decision to use Cloud sync for game saves.
