Still waiting for an answer on how the game operates with the Origin client (like launches through it or independently with still Origin installed)...nobody seems to know, lots of speculation though, probably the former.

Will retail copies of ME3 be available to unlock and play at midnight EST on March 6?

Could I get a reply to this or do we not know yet?

But again the question is if it's possible for the company to go out of business..... it is possible.... but honestly it's not happenning anytime in the forseeable future.

Wolfsite, I may have missed something here, but, do you happen to work for €A or BW ?
No offence, just curious.

Will EA be around long enough for you to play the game and all its DLC? Of course. Will it be around when you have a nostalgia trip in ten years? Maybe, maybe not. I guess it depends on how important their treatment of their customers is.

On that note, THQ is in really dire straights right now. That company might fold soon. There are lots of old "gaming giants" that have folded. And even if they didn't, there's no telling they'll support current games in 5 years. In fact, their EA sports games usually drop multiplayer support in less than 2 years. Do you think EA cares if PC gamers rage that they can't activate their games? When's the last time they cared what we wanted?

Still, it's a question that needs to be answered.

I agree. As recently as just prior to the release of Origins, I was going to order a game digitally from their website because I had a coupon only to find out from their customer service and in the EULA at the time, that the game can only be downloaded for a full year from the purchase of license. Afterward, you are **** out of luck for support.
That isn't the case anymore I am sure, but it still shows how easily they are willing to drop support for existing products.

I have a couple of questions here:

1. Once ME3 is installed and authenticated, is it possible to play it with Origin in offline mode, the way you can with Steam? Or do you have to be connected the whole time?

2. Will Origin insist on installing to my C drive (Program Files folder), like Steam does, or can you install it on another hard drive?

1. This was answered in the previous thread, yes you can switch Origin to offline mode you do not need to be constantly connected to the internet.

2.  It's been a while since I installed Origin so I can't recall if it installs straight to C:, I can answer that it allows you to choose were you want to install your games aftwerwards so you don't need to keep those in the Program Files\\ directory if that is were Origin is.

Edit:

Also for anyone who did have there question removed try posting it in this thread on the Origin Website

forum.ea.com/eaforum/posts/list/8062973.page

I know some may find this inconvenient but there are mods and developers on that site that work on Origin so there is a much better chance of your questions getting answered or your concerns being scene by the Origin development team.

I'm beginning to entertain the idea of contacting my representative in Congress about Origin. It probably will lead nowhere but I might as well try.

Edit: before my post is deleted for being offtopic I'll ask this question:

Will Origin enhance the playing experience of Mass Effect 3 in any way?

1. No, Origin does not honor the users choice to stay offline between startups. It always starts online, unless your internet connection is gone or blocked by a firewall.  So you have to manually go offline every time you start the Origin client to play your games offline.

2. You can install Origin anywhere.

Are updates to Origin still mandatory, i.e. will I lose access to ME3 if I don't want to update Origin and specifically agree to new ToS like what happened when Origin was first introduced and I couldn't access products I paid for months before the switch from EADM?

Yes, Origin forces you to install an update when one is available. You will not be able to login in unless you
  • Install the update
  • Agree to their new ToS
As you stated, this means you lose access to your games. This has been confirmed by the EA support.

You mean the topic about regarding Mass Effect 3's use of Origin and how Origin is a requirement for Mass Effect 3 and other details about Origin? I'm sorry but I'm not exactly seeing how Origin isn't the topic or point of discussion here, given the word Origin is in the thread title and everything.

Interestingly enough one of the only users to respond in Origin's favour didn't get the old Priestly censorship stick despite the fact that he's basically Origin's PR guy. I get that the internet isn't exactly a democracy but deleting unfavourable comments about Origin and hiding behind the faux excuse that it didn't hold up to your completely malleable definition of "topic" strikes me as incredibly disingenuous.

If you mean Wolf, he is answering questions that have already been answered for those who seem to have missed the fact they were answered or playing dumb on purpose. As for myself I have had some of my comments edited out on here too and the only one time was not is when I answered a question and pointed out common sense needed for the naysayers in what to expect from Chris due to him being and employee of a company (any company would expect same).

There is no favoritism going on, it is just your tin foil hat has started to fall off and it's made you a little more unsecure within your paranoia. As for myself I have been actually suspended from forums couple times (for 24 hours periods) even once on topic of Origin bickering with people who are not here to ask legitimate questions, they just venting like a child in a hissy fit so there is no teachers pet issues going on here just your conspiracy theories. I am quite sure Woo hates me, he tends to be one who tells me off most or suspends me. Asking questions (legitimate ones aka ones you know might get answer for and not the ones you know they cannot) that you apply common sense to asking in realising any answer will be within the Bioware/EA company policy that can be answered. The ones that are not able to be answered and you know won't be, then stop throwing toys out pram given already knew this before asking.

This reply will also probably be edited out because I am just about to tell you don't let the door hit you on the way out if nothing they say will stop you from spamming the thread with stuff Chris cannot answer/deviate from the company Bioware/EA line. If your going down the 'interesting' path then I find it interesting that half dozen same people as always pulling the "I am going to ask a question you cannot answer and because you cannot answer it I'm going to spam it over and over then play victim card, woe is me; wah ~wah ~wah favoritism."

Chris is keeping it on topic, the way it looks is amusing but I have enough common sense to realise there is no favoritism going on. Reminds me of this in appearence only especially funny given has Seth Green in it aka Joker. But it is not unfair to do so, it's their forums you have privilege of talking to the people who 'make' the games you (might) like to buy as opposed to those who are just selling them and you also have free will not to buy if wish. Even though even I get told off a lot on here myself and few times suspended, I have enough sense to see that it is a privilege.

My question was answered, I can't opt out of origin data collection so it is not for me. Still I have one other question is sandboxing a violation of the terms of service of origin?

By the way for most of you chances are your questions have been answered, so make your choice suck it up and buy it, or pass on mass effect 3.(for pc at least)

From the previous ME3/Origin thread, still hoping to get them answered...

1. . Considering the integration of Origin and ME3, how will this process work? Will it be relatively seamless as was connecting Dragon Age/Dragon Age 2/Cerberus Network to their servers, or will this be a matter of "open up game, Origin Launcher pops up for account verification (local if offline), then Mass Effect 3 Launcher opens, then the game loads"?

2. Will the integration with Origin result in the same problems with DLC that existed for some time with Mass Effect 2, where running with no online connection/access to the Cerberus resulted in no authentication of installed DLC and thus prevented their use?

3. Considering that Origin will be a requirement to run, and with Mass Effect 3 now having a built in multiplayer component, will the protection/anti-cheat mechanisms existing within Origin be active even during single player/single player-offline sessions of Mass Effect 3?

4. If so, will the utilization of custom mods/skins, trainers, and other such items during single player/single player-offline sessions of Mass Effect 3 trigger these mechanisms? As an example of "other such items", during additional playthroughs of Mass Effect 2 I've been using the high res retextures found here on the BSN, and I've used a memory address editor to get around the whole "mining" issue by just upping the resources I needed that way. The whole mining thing to me wasn't all that fun the first time around....on the 4th playthrough it was downright mind-numbing!

5. If they do, will the penalties enacted result in loss of access to even the single player/single player-offline version of Mass Effect 3?

6. Again considering the integration of Origin with Mass Effect 3, does this mean that the EA "issue" of forum bans sometimes resulting in loss of access even to single player games and possibly the full Origin account (including deletion of purchased content) will be in effect for Mass Effect 3?

7. If so, does the linking of Origin and EA accounts mean that the above can be enacted from the Bioware Social Network in additon to the EA forums?

8. If such a thing were to happen, what process of adjudication exists to address/challenge it? Do we go through Bioware, EA, a mix of both?

9. Just to be sure, as I assume it will be the case, will it be made clear on the packaging of the physical copies of Mass Effect 3 that installation of Origin client will be required to install/run the game?

I would like these questions answered as well, please!

Some of these already know answers for though.

1. I don't know. So this one hasn't been answered yet I think is fair question.

2. Using logic and common sense the answer is no. I can play ME2 without needing to be online all time to use DLC. I don't see why that will change with ME3. The ones with problem with it is more inline with bug/glitch because if was not then it would also happen to me and does not.

3+4. I think it was Casey who already stated that you can use mods in single player still via the twitter news thread.

5+6+7+8. Dmex already stated they have fixed the problem with account bans stopping single player titles not working but they are still rolling out the fix but if occurs in meantime you can contact EA and they will fix it for you.

9. Yes, just like it is with ME1 and ME2 where states clearly on packaging requires internet connection, just like how all Steam combined client retail games state on box that Steam is required. There is no reason at all to think that the same will not be on the ME3 packaging regarding both internet connection for activation and Origin too.
