I'm still not fully aware of how Origin works, so I have to ask this somewhat stupid question. Will any future and/or present DLC have to be distributed and downloaded through Origin, or will Bioware/Ea be keeping the current system they have now in terms of buying and downloading DLC for Bioware games, which is currently through Bioware social? What about updates?

Can you please provide prove for this statement that Origin will not vanish when much larger corporations than EA shut their DRM services down in the past?

because EA already has some 400+ games on there and its constantly increasing. they just signed on Robot Games (makes Orcs Must Die and some other really good games) as well as several others at the same time. Origin is here to stay for a while and with it being the method through which the DLC and patches will be released for future EA games it wont be going anywhere.

Let me try and post again, since it seems that my previous attempt vanished into a wormhole:

Given the current atmosphere in Washington atm, thanks to Google, the US Congress is likely to pass some sort of law against datamining as part of TOS. Since this would largely negate the entire purpose of Origin, EA is likely to shut the service down if such a law is actually passed.

In that event will EA:
A) Have Bioware release a ME3 patch?
B) Alter the TOS to state that the governing law for the TOS shall be someplace outside the US?
C) Tell us all too bad, we're shutting it off, and to buy the new DRM free edition of ME3?

Doesn't work that way. Origin is not there to datamine, it is a client service to supply their products and more. It is to handle activation, organise and supply their products and its purpose is not to datamine your system. Just like Steams is also not there for the same purpose. It will not vanish and neither will Steam, the absolute worst case scenario for EA would be they add an additiontal paragraph in the ToS. Shutting down the service itself and proclaiming its purpose to be merely datamining is childish and is fallacy.

This was a question for EA/BioWare, not another customer who has zero insider knowledge on the matter.  As for it not data-mining, Origin was introduced with that feature.  They can say it was a bug and I can say I don't believe that but whoever is right the reality is EA left the door open for them to do it again, mistake or not.  So BaronIveagh question relates to any known contingency if the US government closes that door for them.  Information that you simply do not have.

And please stop insulting other members who disagree with you.  Wolfsite also seems to take your side on the Origin matter and has yet to resort to name calling.

Origin never did Datamining, it did data collection (of non personal system information and non identifiy information you supplied it, which you can opt out of). dataminning and data collection are two vastly different things.

data mining requires pattern recognition and small portions of AI/MI in order to take data thats been acquired and make it read able by humans. all Origin did was some simple grab already readable stuff (ie non encrypted or non machine level language stuff) and transmit back (if it fell within the pervue of what the ToS/EULA stated it collected).
